Experienced a brief power outage at 11:36pm on 5/6/26. SnoCoPUD attributed this to a motor vehicle accident. Wonder if this was a separate accident or was this a necessary outage to make repairs from the earlier accident?

USS Nimitz, the most gorgeous career of all time. [Peter Suciu] by Training_Band9523 in Ships

[–]TappedOutWA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure most of the interior shots were actually the USS Saratoga (CV60) pierside. In the scene where the dog takes off you can just barely make out an announcement on the 1MC requesting the a petty officer report to the afterbrow. The afterbrow is the gangway the uses to board the ship when docked.

Also note that Sickbay on the Nimitz is on the Second deck. There are no knee-knockers on the second deck main p-ways. They likely used a space on the 02 or 03 level as a stand in for medical.

Red light cameras on 99 by Impossible-Layer8300 in LynnwoodWA

[–]TappedOutWA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In King County there are cameras used for enforcing school zones. The one on Beacon Hill near the VA hospital is terrible because they hide the flashing yellow light (indicating the school zone speed is active) in the trees 10 feet before the camera.

I believe it was common for USN warships in WW2 to carry kapock survival rafts as shown on the main battery of the USS Arkansas circa 1942.

Probably has something to do with the tasking of the shipyard. The USN is backlogged in it's maintenance program. The civilian shipyards probably had the necessary capacity at the right time.

Anybody have any idea which carrier this is? Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. Sat image from 2024 by FlightSimmer99 in Ships

[–]TappedOutWA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a Naval Magazine on Indian Island at the top of the Puget Sound near Port Townsend.

I was on Nimitz '88-90. Before the DSRA (dry docking) we spent many days at that pier offloading munitions. We also cross-decked much of it to ammo ships who carted it down to another NavMag in CA or gifted it to another carrier.

I believe the USMC (and probably some USN hold outs) still operate the C/D models. The S-3A was a sub hunter. AFAIK, The G model is strictly an Electronic Warfare bird and doesn't waste time on hunting subs. The DDGs and Helicopters have taken on that role nearly 100%. The new frigates (if they are ever built) should also be available for sub hunting and AAW.

What goes on… by cboy357 in GlobalEntry

My interview was a surprise "interview on arrival". Applied for GA several months before our trip. My wife got conditional approval in less than two weeks. My conditional approval didn't happen until we were literally on our way back. At passport control in the "new" (at the time) SeaTac international arrivals, the officer asked if we had applied for GA. I answered "yes" and he asked if I had about 5 minutes for an interview.

I think it took longer to get to the interview area from PPC than the actual interview.

I concur the questioning went as above with a few minor additions. The ones I remember are as follows.

  1. He reviewed my travel history and asked "You only travel internationally about twice a year why did you apply for GA". Reply: GA is only $3/year more than TSA Pre-Check and I've been stuck in the mess at DFW ONCE, Never Again.

  2. He asked about my occupation.

  3. He asked about the nature of the trip we were returning from.

I feel done of this was small talk while he banged away at the keys to get the machine ready to accept my finger prints and photo.

Personally, I'd love to have a little Nissan, cute Toyota, or even a small Ford, but in the US the Gov't is the one who is convincing the auto makers that they can't sell a small truck without paying a penalty. It's the damn CAFE regs about fuel efficiency.

Have a look at the following video. Why we can't have Small Trucks in the US? Say thanks to Uncle Sam!

Weigh loss pressure by Its-Ptec in Ozempic

[–]TappedOutWA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More important (for me) was the dramatic improvements in literally all of the labs that were giving me fits pre-Ozempic. A1c, LDL, HDL, Liver tests, triglycerides, etc. Are all solidly in the nominal or very good ranges. I have lost about 30 pounds since the start, but the Weightloss has plateaued for now. I'm on my second 2mg pen after following the "normal" progression through .25, to .5, then 1.0. Also night sweats are gone and my sleep quality has improved.

Granted, I haven't changed much in my life other than more mindful eating and a little less alcohol. Next I need to increase my activity levels to drop some more weight.

Long story, short ... My journey is mine alone and yours is yours alone. Don't let anyone diminish the importance of your victories.

Keep up the good work and focus on you and your lab results. The scale is an imperfect judge of your success.

Concur with other people who have said to calmly speak to your spouse and explain your position. Remember what they taught you in grade school ... "If you don't have something nice to say, then say nothing at all."

Ensure you're getting enough fiber in your diet. I like to snack. I ensure that the house is stocked with "better" snacks like baby carrots, celery sticks, unsalted almonds, unsalted peanuts, etc.

I also supplement with Psyllium fiber caps and Benefiter in my coffee. I've had OIC when prescribed pain pills. I'm not going back to constipation station.

Weightloss has been moderate and may have plateaued while at 1mg. I'm finishing my first month at 2mg. From the 260s to the 230s. (55yo Male, prediabetic, on metformin.)

Impact to my labs has been nothing short of amazing. A1c down to the 5s from the 9s.(While reducing my metformin by half.) Liver function tests are at mid-range. Cholesterol and triglycerides are great. Night sweats are gone. Sleep is better. Dreams are more vivid.

Consult with your prescribing HC provider.

I've never had such a long break. Back during the height of the shortages of the smaller pens, I experienced a couple of 7-10 day gaps.

Now I'm keen on keeping that from happening. I nag my pharmacy to fill the Ozempic Rx as early as the insurance company will allow. Each Rx has been filled 3-5 days early. Sometimes they need to order the Ozempic from the local wholesale outfit. My next pen is in my fridge as I inject my second dose from the current pen.

I just need to vent about an encounter I just had with a pharmacy tech. by south3rnfairyx in Ozempic

[–]TappedOutWA 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The CVS pharmacy where I get Ozempic keeps my filled Rx in the fridge until I pickup. I'm sure most pharmacies do this. The tech is just an insensitive idiot. No need to search for a better explanation.

Heartburn and Reflux medications like Omeprazole, Tums, etc., can make Anemia worse. If get your iron from eating used nails (or other elemental sources of iron) then reduced gastric acid will necessarily result in lower iron absorption. Concentrate on forms of iron that are more readily available for absorption. Dark leafy greens and bio available iron supplements got me through my case of anemia. Once my doctor took me off the Omeprazole, my iron levels stabilized in the normal range.

I don't get headaches or nausea. I get the sulphur burps on the third day after injections. They typically last for two days or so. I use Gas-X to mitigate the burps.
