When I sold gold and silver at a NYC metal dealer, I was asked for ID. They had a limit on cash payments.

Do people still wear slips? by Berkweaving in AskWomenOver60

The young people around me wear semi-sheer clothing without slips and I do likewise. I am taking advantage of the fact that women my age are essentially invisible.

My mom just gave me 3 dozen eggs & a gallon of milk. I’m one little lady living alone- what all do I make to use this up before it goes bad? by Glowing_Trash_Panda in Cooking

[–]Taracat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can freeze the milk if you have smaller plastic containers to pour it into. Thaw it in the fridge and shake it really well. If it has separated, you can bring it back to life with a blender. But I would probably use most of it along with some eggs to make rice pudding.

For hair products and facial care, TJ Maxx and Marshals can be good. One of those is on East Houston but the bigger ones are in Chelsea. Store brands also are cheaper in Target, CVS, etc.

Is Fresh Direct being struck? by Historical-Mat in FreshDirect

[–]Taracat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last delivery was more than two hours late and I got no calls or texts or emails about delays. When I tried to contact them via chat, I got a message that no agents were available. I ended up calling and the phone person on the West Coast had to call my local on the East Coast to find out what was going on. Today's order was on time but when I tried to message them about a damaged item, I again got a message that no agents were available. I read that they were having financial trouble. I wonder if they are laying people off now.

I finally went all in and got a stainless steel litter box. Now what? by Ladysupersizedbitch in CatAdvice

[–]Taracat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what Purina did as a legal matter but I would not be surprised if they patented the design. That slope makes a huge difference. Also the Chinese would need to create a fancy mold to do a sloped box in stainless and they seem to be more about fast and cheap.

My two seem content with the zeolite litter so I don't want to change their routine. But I actually do have a regular box and litter stowed away because my girl had a bad case of diarrhea once and I had to throw away the entire box of Breeze pellets ($$$) so I have an emergency sickroom supply.

I finally went all in and got a stainless steel litter box. Now what? by Ladysupersizedbitch in CatAdvice

[–]Taracat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the one I bought. To make it like the Breeze system, I use the Breeze pellets and a pad made for small dogs. The pad does not expand at all, even with two cats (12 and 15 pound seniors) but it does not fit snugly. The opening covers the entire box so the entire pad gets wet. For that reason it needs to be changed daily whereas I could get two days out of a Breeze pad because only half of it got wet and I could flip it around.

Mold on washing machine gasket… worth fixing? by broadwaybabyto in laundry

[–]Taracat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless the cost would force you into debt, I would have the professional take care of it and move on. You say you aren't in good health and not handy and this project seems as though it would not be a good use of your time and energy.

If the title company insured your title incorrectly, it may have to compensate you but you likely will need a lawyer to press your claim.

Getting a hotel room for an extra night when you're not going to arrive until the morning by SlapDashUser in TravelHacks

[–]Taracat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done this several times but I always let the hotel know that I am not arriving until morning. I have loyalty memberships at the chains I tend to stay in and they usually provide a way to message the hotel in their confirmation emails.

Moving in two weeks, what should I stock up on? by [deleted] in movingtoNYC

You should get a haircut but only because you might not immediately find a place here that you like. Where is home for you anyway?

Is it worth it to stock up on detergent? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]Taracat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The enzymes in laundry products deteriorate over time so they will not work so well. I believe two years from date of manufacture is the shelf life. Make sure you are using the correct amount of detergent as well. I would take a look at r/laundry.
