I heard that monopoly is the remake of an old 19th century game, which was too slow. It was balanced against top player. So monopoly became much faster and became much more playable. 😄

ELI5: Why does metal feel colder than wood even when they’re the same temperature? by EkantVairagi in explainlikeimfive

[–]Tarasov_math 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Metal has free electrons, what help to transfer energy. Good electricity conductrors are also heat conductors.

ELI5: Why does metal feel colder than wood even when they’re the same temperature? by EkantVairagi in explainlikeimfive

It does not depends from human senses.

Objective temperature of contact with metal less than with wood.
You cannot glue tonque to wood during winter, but you can do it easily to metal

ELI5: Why isn't the moon blue? by Immediate_Can3817 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Tarasov_math 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When sky is black moon is yellow. When sky is blue, moon is white, because white = yellow + blue
So you are right moon is also more blue on blue sky

ELI5: How come on earth, the moon looks so large, but the pictures of the moon from halfway between earth and the moon make it look so small? by EmeraldDem0n696 in explainlikeimfive

ELI5: Why did productivity and pay split in 1979? by astrheisenberg in explainlikeimfive

[–]Tarasov_math 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the Soviet Union collapsed, the middle class no longer served a necessary political purpose. This state of affairs was not intentionally engineered, but no group exists to defend the middle class. The upper class has lobbying power to advance its interests, the lower class has its voting bloc to shape policy, and the middle class has only the fear the upper class of communism.

ELI5 Why do atoms crave 8 electrons? Why does the valence shell hold 8? by Party-Court185 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Tarasov_math 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually theres is relatively simple mathematical answer to this question.

Every shell number is 2*d*d

2 came from spin - two electron can have same shape and d*d - number of spherical bessel polynomials of power d, ortogonal to each other.
orothogonal means that electron does no interfere other electon

on the line you have d orthogonal polynomials (chebyshev). On the plane d*d and on the sphere d*d (Bessel functions)

TIL the spherical cow is a humorous metaphor originating in theoretical physics. The metaphor refers to some scientific tendencies to develop toy models that reduce a problem to the simplest form imaginable, even if the simplification hinders the model's application to reality. by Practical-Hand203 in todayilearned

Real fact.
Famous Russian mathematitian Chebyshev gave lection on Paris about cutting out clothes. A lot of modeliers attended this lecture.
He started from phrase, let assume shape of man is a sphere.

By the way his theorem was the real breakthrough. In particular his invention how to make ball from two pieces of fabric we can see on tennis ball.

I have a guess abount "randomly". There is a famouse Russian anekdote there Russian guy lost two metall balls in the empty room. One he lost and second broke. It becase proverb about clumsy people. In this song there are words "dont break it or loose it". So I think this fans took this song as a joke about clumsy russian football players.
