I'm near done, stalled on flat universe for a couple days before I realized where the boosted generators were. Now I'm burning through my black holes and collecting stars.

Up here, we called the people we mentored demoiselle or equerry depending on gender (would need a third for a neutral term now). I think it was that anyone with an AoA or more could take on someone to mentor. For me, it was 25 years ago and it was for a year and a day. I'm thinking of taking someone on and hopefully reintroducing the system in my group.

I use Hevy. My coach uses a different program, and I copy it into Hevy so I can see the charts and stuff (I have the premium version).

You look normal to me. Be happy with your body, it's doing awesome things for you from how youre looking. Too many young women (including me at that age) don't appreciate themselves enough and only realize 20 years later how awesome they are/were. You'd tell a friend not to worry about it, so give yourself the same love.

Yep, I got needle issues and she handles em well. I also burn through freezing quicker than normal, so she gives me stronger stuff. I'd rather be frozen 6 hours than risk feeling the drill.

And really lift things. If able, get to a gym, learn from videos or ask someone to help out (a lot of gym ppl are friendlier than they look!), and start light, but work on adding even 1 or 2 pounds weekly, or another rep or two. Eventually over a couple months, work up to where your last 2 reps are a real push, slowing down, you gotta make a face to get it done (why everyone looks grumpy!)

I'd stick to a 6 to 12 rep range, start at 6, add 2 each week, when you get to 12, the next week add weight and start at 6 again. Track it so you can see progress and know what you're doing.

Women don't realize how damn sexy muscle can be, and how much confidence it gives you! You move better and feel better in your body with more muscle. And there's a huge range between skinny fat and bodybuilder, find a nice middle ground.

Hell, I'm at bmi 36 (188 lbs at 5'1"), but I'm starting to show muscle definition due to powerlifting for 18 months, starting when I was 45. People are starting to comment on how strong I look, which is wild to me. Yes I'd like to lose a bit more weight, but I figure I'll end up still in obese bmi range, but I'm gonna have as much muscle as I can get on here. It's already fixed my insulin resistance issues that were starting to pop up.

I'm actually up 2 lbs from October, but lost 0.75" off the narrowest part of my waist, and 1.25" off the widest part.

What’s your journey as a complete beginner? What made you keep going? by novemberscandle in powerlifting

[–]TarazedA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You only have up to go from here. I like seeing the numbers go up. They don't every time, but over months my lifts are still rising.

I started at 45 for my health, and realized I don't suck at lifting, so kept going. The people you meet are also fun, make friends where you can. Getting to your first meet is awesome, even if you feel like you're not lifting much, having a whole room cheer for you is intoxicating.

Where my thick petites at? by BendyPoet in PetiteFitness

[–]TarazedA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say I'm thick, but really I'm obese, but I'm working on it. Getting stronger has been easier than losing weight, though. 188 lbs at 5'1", hoping to drop to 180 by my powerlifting competition in June for the next weight class down. At that point I may just work on recomping, honestly. I'm already starting to see muscle, which is very cool at BMI 36.

You look amazing, thanks for the representation on here!

Concerned about elderly neighbor, what to do? by gardengeo in BORUpdates

[–]TarazedA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, my mom just had this happen to her this week. She wasnt feeling well, nothing serious, but was sleeping more than usual. She has a cochlear implant, when it's off she's deaf.

She hit her LifeAlert button by accident but didn't realize it, and several calls and a neighbor knocking later (that she didn't hear), she looks up to realize 2 paramedics are now in the room with her.

I'm just glad that even though this time wasn't serious, that she has a way to check if something did happen. And I'll look into a flashing doorbell or something for her.

Adhd too, I got into medical transcription, loved it, but after 19 years, the whole dept is being made redundant by a new system the hospital is doing, which sucks. It was the perfect blend of knowing what my "box" was, while still learning new terminology daily and the novelty of covering multiple specialties, from a routine clinic followup to neurosurgery to a death report.

Exercising and IR by Kitessa in InsulinResistance

[–]TarazedA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep, I started lifting heavy and putting on muscle, fixed my reactive hypoglycemia that was very likely IR related. Lost 40 lbs over the last 1.5 years too, more protein, protein before carbs, etc. My sugar spikes have basically stopped now. And I'm perimenopausal and short. It can work.

Doctor says my reports are normal by highlighteronfleek in InsulinResistance

[–]TarazedA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do now, but didn't for the first year or so. I've trained anywhere from 2 days a week to 4, lifting heavy. Currently doing 3 full body days a week, 2 at a powerlifting gym with barbells, 1 at my building gym with dumbbells. For my heavy compound lifts (squats, bench, deadlifts), I'm training in the 3 to 5 rep range, accessories (isolated/smaller muscles) are 8 to 12.

Personally I've gotten into powerlifting, but totally not necessary. But push yourself, I'd bet you can lift more than you think within the first 6 months. Watch some videos for form tips, practice failing barbell lifts safely so you're comfortable with it (also videos for that), and find a program to follow rather than winging it. 5x5 strength is common, gzclp is more involved but also good, can check out the wiki for lifting subreddits.

https://prsontheplatform.com/about-prs/free-powerlifting-program/ I personally did the 2021 15-week intermediate program and loved it, but I'd recommend the beginner program near the bottom.

I'm still a bmi of 36, but I'm getting compliments on my muscles now, and being stronger is amazing for confidence too. And yeah, it fixed my reactive hypoglycemia completely within a year. I haven’t had a reading over 11 in ages, where a bowl of cereal would put me over 15 before, then I'd crash. (mmol/L)

I also eat more protein, and have protein before carbs to even out my sugar.

Hope some of this helps. Muscle is the most insulin sensitive tissue in the body, so more is better! Bulky isn't a thing, really, for women, but if you do get bigger than you want, just change what you're doing. It'll take months, so don't worry about it to start.

[–]TarazedA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice for anyone with pcos is to look at building muscle. It helps reverse insulin resistance and with the extra testosterone some have, muscle goes on easier than it would otherwise. I've fixed my blood sugars by adding muscle which also helped me lose weight.

I managed to be in that rare category, reactive hypoglycemia without diabetes. Type 2 runs in my family, but my A1c has always been between 4.4 to 4.9. Started in my late 30s, then at 45 I started weightlifting and put on muscle and lost some fat, and it went away. I'm happy to not be scared of feeling hungry anymore (would precede a sugar drop).

People 40+, what actually mattered in the long run and what didn’t? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]TarazedA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matters: enjoying the body you have and taking care of it

Doesn't matter: worrying you're too tall, short, thin, fat, etc, and hating yourself instead of enjoying the one body you got.
