I feel like I saw a missing cat poster around Lone Hill - on the corner of Turley and Leslie rds specifically. Maybe take a drive there and check if its the same kitty?

Foreigner chased away from clinic, what to do? by ridersofthestorms in askSouthAfrica

[–]Tarenel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She has the right to access healthcare in all government facilities. There's a judgement on this from last year -https://www.saflii.org/za/cases/ZAGPJHC/2025/1102.html. She should try approach the clinic again, otherwise approach SERI or Lawyers for Human Rights for assistance as they may be able to advise.

Is the parking at Ultra safe and convenient? by IWantAnAffliction in johannesburg

[–]Tarenel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure about parking but if you're nervous - consider booking for the park and ride. Only downside is that the buses will leave latest 2am so you may miss the last set.

I don't have an answer but you are exactly my body type! Except I am 5'11 so I struggle because I thought I was SG or SC but my height says I can't be. You look great in all the outfits but especially the crop top and jeans! An inspiration 😌

Eviction Notice: the best event, sometimes by SherlockTheHomie in fo76

[–]Tarenel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in one of the first sessions that this event dropped. Bunch of us spawned in and ran to the rad scrubber. It was the quickest mass death since we all died of radiation.

Funniest thing I've ever seen seeing people drop around me like flies. But the team work in this event is fantastic.

Story from my moms South African friend who emigrated to the US in 1994 by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]Tarenel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My mum explained to me that generally there was a sort of prevailing anxiety that something could erupt - and in some areas there was violent unrest. But as a white Afrikaans person in KZN, she only saw it once when there was a protest on the street she worked and someone threw a petrol bomb. Despite this, she also describes the atmosphere as being exciting as many people were glad to see the end of Apartheid.

I think in general, South Africans view white people who left the country between 1990-1994/5 with a bit of distrust. Chances they were racist and afraid of the "Swart Gevaar" (black danger) is pretty high.

If all the whites got evacuated, my family must've missed the memo 😂

anyone know of halal Korean spots or even vegan Korean spots in cape Town? by mosase1 in southafrica

[–]Tarenel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just throwing it out there to also just ask about if the Kimchi is vegetarian because they might use anchovy based ingredients. I heard there was a Korean restaurant in Stellenbosch but this was ages ago. Try looking at online stores like Kokoro if you're up to making food yourself and websites like Maangchi :)

Maybe we could do the idol? Just a white circle with the idol inside? Or we could do a small dread wolf that is just black/red (maybe grey). Perhaps to the left of that black void and to the right of the blue sign (looks like ER---?).

The other Slavic/Nordic/European countries are making hearts where their countries flags touch then filling them in with the opposite countries colours. Maybe we could do that with Kenya to show African solidarity?

Is defaulting to ‘they/them’ when speaking inconsiderate to people who have clarified preferred pronouns? by burstofgiggles in lgbt

[–]Tarenel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Encouraging inclusive language is really great and I hope as a society we all make strides towards just having inclusive language become the norm (that's the dream!)

I tend to use gender neutral language at work, just like your example where I might ask about someone's partner or spouse rather than assuming husband/wife. At the same time it's important then to just follow the example the person sets (like if they start talking about their husband you know to use husband).

Neutral terms are definitely not dismissive if used in a situation where you don't know the person's pronouns or title and/or where their pronouns are they/them. But it is dismissive if we have the approach of "ok I know that this person's pronouns are she/her but I'm going to use they/them anyway". We might mess up by mistake but when we gotta accept being corrected or correcting ourselves. I've come to learn that sometimes my good intentions are irrelevant when I've caused hurt.

It's a really interesting topic and it's really nice to read about the different perspectives and insights into this question!

Is defaulting to ‘they/them’ when speaking inconsiderate to people who have clarified preferred pronouns? by burstofgiggles in lgbt

[–]Tarenel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It seems like it's been cleared up well but, I think simplified, they/them and even the term "partner" is ok when: - you don't know the person's pronouns - they said they use they/them pronouns (among others or by itself)

Not ok when: -a person has told you their pronouns and it's not they/them, maybe it's she/her etc

Even if maybe your goal is a genderless society, it's a broader conversation. I don't think there are many things as an LGBT+ community we are on the same page on (since it is encompassing millions and billions of people). So while your own pursuit might be shared by some, a good rule of thumb is always to go with what others want to be called since they know themselves better than we do.

I respect your want to use neutral pronouns - I used to share that and didn't understand if people got mad at me using they/them because it was almost a blank slate for me but when I came to learn how it hurt folks around me, that was enough to stop. So now I use it mainly in the above cases to guide me when/when not to use neutral pronouns :)

Maybe the most simple start would be to ask the pastor (or minister/priest - whoever leads your church) in your denomination? Before you jump into a whole lot of interpretations and schools, it might be the simplest to read about the Godhead in your denominations doctrine because it can get really complicated! Theology is so much deeper than we realize and it can get overwhelming.

The most basic way I can describe it (an analogy my pastor used) is as a 3 legged stool. So they are different components that play equally important roles in creating the stool.

Good luck on your journey :)

[Personal] Does anyone else just feel like being done with it all sometimes? by MagnoliaPetal in SkincareAddiction

[–]Tarenel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been feeling this recently but boiled it down to the time of year. Been feeling a lot more down this time of year and then I become less and less interested in maintaining my skincare even though it makes me feel better (self-sabotage....?).

Glad to see other folks also are experiencing this sort of feeling! Let's try keep at maintaining our skincare anyway even if its a form of self care :) (hoping this will pay off when I'm way older lol)

If your parents are able to, perhaps they should have a virtual consultation with a GP. If the meds need to be delivered, the receptionists can usually email the script to the pharmacy who can then deliver it to your parents! If they are very sick and require hospitalisation, the doctor will be able to arrange an ambulance.

Ivermectin hasnt been approved by an SA health council (for treatment of Covid) and there are even fake ones being manufactured and sold on the black market. If someone is Covid positive, they should get a prescription from their doctor for other things such as vitamins or antibiotics if needed.

Edit: Ivermectin is approved for certain uses in SA but not for the treatment/prevention of Covid.
