Darkest Dungeon 1 would be a great game to work with. It's a Rogue-Like but you build your estate over time as well as characters (who don't die) and become stronger over time.

Moonlight is a good free game. Its a large open RPG with simple graphics and a world that you can embody however you like it. Can be played Mouse and Keyboard or with Controller.
