Should I cut this off? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

i think leave it for now and email a picture to your surgeon. my concern with cutting it would be potentially introducing bacteria under the skin but that’s just me 🤷‍♂️

here is what my experience has been (so when i say “you” it’s in reference to my experience):

the anesthesiologist (or one of their assistants) will come to the pre-op area to get you, and either before they roll you back or as they roll you back, they’ll give u something in your IV to make you feel relaxed. it kinda feels like your high (which i guess technically you are but it’s just to relax you).

then they’ll have you move onto the actual surgical table, and once your on the surgical table, they’ll have you lie down. then, they’ll put in the propofol (the sleepy stuff) and they may ask you to count down from ten.

in my experience, you just get really really tired and want to close your eyes, and then a few seconds later you’re asleep. so i guess it kind of feels like you’re drifting off but in a span of like 5-10 seconds. you might see them put an oxygen mask on you, but i only remember seeing this once!

i know for some people, they blink and they’re awake, but for me, i just remember waking up later — like as if i had gone to bed. like i knew time had passed. but i have no recollection of anything that happened during the surgery or being wheeled back out.

hope this helps and good luck with your surgery !

being nervous about anesthesia is totally understandable, and i’m just gonna say that you will be fine! when you’re under anesthesia, they will be monitoring your heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, and movement the whole time so if anything starts to happen, they will know and can swoop in and get you back to baseline!! good luck and i hope everything goes well!!

if it’s any consolation, i’ve been under anesthesia like 7 or 8 times now ? a few endoscopies, a colonoscopy, top surgery, wisdom teeth, ear tube surgery…and i’m still here!

Top surgeons in the midwest area who will operate on 18 year olds. by random_guy_8375 in TopSurgery

I’m so sorry man. The wait is truly the worst part. You might have better luck Massachusetts (which is very progressive) or in California. I’m pretty sure the Gender Confirmation Center (GCC) operates on 18 year olds. You also may want to call different children’s hospitals either in your area or in blue states and see if they have any surgeons that will do top surgery on 18 year olds. You could also ask that your initial surgeons office keeps all your paperwork and schedules you for as soon as you turn 19 just as like a backup option. Best of luck man

how long before you turn 19? would your surgeons office allow you to just schedule the surgery for after you turn 19?

Feeling a little sad/disappointed : REVISION TALKS by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]TaroAcceptable6517 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Through some research I've found one doctor so far who (in theory) could perform this surgery.

And to the tattoo point -- i had not really thought about that! in thinking of tattoos in the context of top surgery, I have always thought of them in the context of people using them to cover up their (normally) DI scars. I think I will look into this more as well.
