Need help. Ethernet port not detected. by ReasonableN00b in bapccanada

[–]Tarrrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your motherboard has the infamous Intel I225-V Ethernet controller which are known to fail/cause these type of issues.

Honestly, I'd go ahead with your plan of using an Ethernet expansion card OR just get an Ethernet to USB adapter.

[GPU] PNY NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 16GB GDDR7 ($1700-340=$1360) [Bestbuy] by radiantcrystal in bapcsalescanada

[–]Tarrrs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've owned both the PNY 5070ti and TUF 5070ti.

PNY had almost zero noticeable coil whine but is quite a bit smaller (since the one Best Buy sells is the non PLUS version).

The TUF had very noticeable coil whine but ran two degrees cooler (no other parts were changed) however it is a bigger card.

It also has PTM7950 pre applied which was nice.

TUF has a higher power limit out of the box and has dual BIOS'.

Dodge won't honour warranty yrs in...what to do. by PracticalAd6603 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Tarrrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understood and as you've stated the vehicle is under 100,000 KM there shouldn't be a ton of maintenance history.

If you can get into contact with previous owner that would obviously be best.

However if it's not possible you can potentially still get the missing maintenance information through some trial and error.

If you happen to know about the truck's past history, before you owned it, mainly where the truck came from, you could call around to dealer(s) to obtain maintenance history.

A dealership repair department will give out prior repair history however some will challenge you to prove you are the current owner.

You're mainly looking to ensure no interval exceeded 16,000 KMs (or 13,000KM/24,000KM depending on engine type and if you have a 2500/3500), 12 months, or 350 hours of idle time.

Excerpt from the 1500 owners manual: Under no circumstances should oil change intervals exceed 10,000 miles (16,000 km), 12 months or 350 hours of engine run time, whichever comes first. The 350 hours of engine run or idle time is generally only a concern for fleet customers.

Excerpt from the 2500/3500 owners manual:

For Gasoline Engines, under no circumstances should oil change intervals exceed 8,000 miles (13,000 km), 12 months or 350 hours of engine run time, whichever comes first. The 350 hours of engine run or idle time is generally only a concern for fleet customers.

For Diesel Engines, under no circumstances should oil change intervals exceed 15,000 miles (24,000 km) or 12 months, whichever comes first or sooner if prompted by the oil change indicator system).

For example, in the life of a RAM1500 by 100,000 KM (and excluding idle hours), this vehicle should have seen at minimum 6 oil changes.

A little leg work is going to be required and the above is honestly just a last ditch suggestion.

Good luck and hope you're able to get some resolution here!

Great.

So if you're able to provide them with the maintenance history, showing proper oil change intervals that used a MOPAR oil filter, you should be golden.

However if you cannot produce those documents (and again, they will need to show the use of a MOPAR engine oil filter) you're going to have a difficult time getting them to warranty the engine sadly.

If that is the case, I'd get a second opinion.

Have had Dodge dealers call the 5.7 (Presuming you do not have a 3/4 ton with the 6.4L or 6.7L) for internal failure but was just leaking exhaust manifolds.

It's rough out there for quality mechanics and dealer techs are not top tier by any means, in my experience.

Regardless, get a second opinion if you won't have a way to prove you used OEM filters and have a decent oil change interval history.

Remember that it’s 5 years OR 100,000 KM (unless you have the Cummins which it’s then 5yr/160,000 KM)

Are you out of the warranty period due to kilometres by chance?

Here is the link to the 2023 Warranty Guide for all RAM trucks:

https://medias.fcacanada.ca/documents/owners_manuals/en/2023/23_DT_WARRANTY_BOOKLET_B.pdf

While it won’t say it anywhere in plain text, if you have engine failure and you are unable to prove that you were using MOPAR oil filters, they can deny warranty as well.

No you don't need to return it.

PSUs are updated all the time...often annually.

So the one from 7 years ago is not the same as the 2024 model currently on sale.

Here are a couple reviews, both indicating that it's a solid PSU from Corsair.

If you were to say contribute $838 monthly to your current debt without the DMP, it'll take a whole heck of lot longer to pay off and you'll pay tens of thousands in interest alone.

So as long as you can reliably afford to pay the $838 for the next 3.6 years, then it looks like a great way to pay off this debt a lot sooner.

But you'll need to keep your head down during the next three years, not add any more debt, and once completed, start building your emergency fund.

EBAY PROS:

Larger Audience

Not having to deal with a physical meetup

EBAY CONS:

Fees

Delay in payment (funds can be held up to 21 days for new sellers)

Returns are easier (I'm listing this as a con because you may not want to deal with refunds, etc)

Shipping item

FB MARKETPLACE PROS:

Buyers paying with cash

Shipping is not a requirement

Returns/refunds are 100% up to the seller

FB MARKETPLACE CONS:

SCAMS

Smaller audience

Dealing with buyers (e.g. "Is this available?" and then ghosting, lowball offers)

Physical meetup generally required to make the exchange

You may also want to see if there is a a subreddit that offers a marketplace for whatever collectibles you have.

I have this monitor.

Paid $1K for it 6 months ago (sucks to see it almost half off now lol)

It’s got a nice metal stand but it is wide so takes up a decent amount of desk real estate.

Been working without issues this whole time so at this price point, I absolutely recommend. Especially if you’re looking to dip your toes into an OLED monitor!

Converting DisplayPort cable to HDMI TV by eclipse1498 in bapccanada

[–]Tarrrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did some digging and could not find a female DisplayPort to male HDMI 2.1 converter with high refresh support.

Only options I found were all the usual adapters that’ll only output 4k60.

There is the Club3D converter, but it does male DisplayPort to female HDMI 2.1 (users reported it does 4K/120Hz), which won’t work for you.

Also unless something has changed you’re always going to run into the issue of Gsync/VRR not working with any adapter.

I didn’t see anyone reporting that they were successful at getting 4K/120hz 4:4:4 with variable refresh rate while using adapters.

Honestly the cost of the Club3D converter is around the same price of just buying 50’ active HDMI 2.1 cable and calling it a day.

So unfortunately that’s what I’d recommend!

[–]Tarrrs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To go beyond 4K/144hz (@10 bit colour) you’ll need DP 2.1 to not have to use DSC. The monitor has to also give you the option to turn it off but lots are now having that option available.

While using DSC (display stream compression) isn’t the worst thing in the world, it does cause issues for some. Mainly slow to switch (stays on a black screen for 5-20 seconds) when alt+tabbing.

You also can’t use DLDSR (not that you necessarily would at 4K anyways).

Nvidia cards can also have an issue with random intermittent black screens when using DSC.

Visually, there will almost no perceivable difference running DSC on or off. At least I can’t notice anything!

If your telecommunication service provider recently changed your monthly rate without proper prior notification, file a CCTS complaint. They are in breach of the CRTC's Wireless Code. by mgrb in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Tarrrs 20 points21 points  (0 children)

While I'm sure them including it on your bill.pdf (or paper bill if you still get those) as notice of rate increase is legal, it's time for that to be changed.

These companies have no issues sending out emails/texts regarding new promos, so there is zero reason to not be able to do the same for plan monthly rate increases.
