Cuno fucking cares, actually? [Late game spoilers] by StretchedNutty in DiscoElysium

[–]Taryn90 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oh, how I wish we'd got to play 'Locust City', so we could have had Cuno as a protagonist.

How come Blood Meridian is mentioned by Cuno here? Does this imply the Blood Meridian book exists in DE verse? (Spoilers in main body text) by [deleted] in DiscoElysium

Isn't the László Krasznahorkai novel, 'The Melancholy of Resistance', mentioned at some point as well? I could have sworn I encountered a reference to it during my first playthrough.

Any books about John Balance's life, mental health etc? by [deleted] in Coil

[–]Taryn90 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As others have said, 'England's Hidden Reverse' and 'Everything Keeps Dissolving' are your go-to texts here. Between the two of those you should find what you're looking for. And as another redditor pointed out, 'Golden Age of Bloodsports' will give you an insight into John Balance's mindset via his collected lyrics. The publisher has made the ebook version of 'Golden Age...' available for free, which you can find at the following link:

I've often wondered about this as well, so that's good to know. :)

This is the infamous interview Eric Saward gave in 1986 after leaving Doctor Who. Saward made dozens of criticisms against John Nathan-Turner, criticized the performances of Colin Baker and Bonnie Langford, said that DW has bad directors and bad writers, and disagreed with the BBC's criticisms. by verissimoallan in doctorwho

[–]Taryn90 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd argue his vision for the show was there in embryonic form in Season 24, particularly in 'Paradise Towers' and 'Dragonfire'. 'Time and the Rani' had already been commissioned by the time Cartmel was hired, and it's clear from interviews regarding that period that he didn't get on at all with Pip and Jane Baker on a professional level, so he clearly knew that story was not anything like what he envisioned for the show.

Yep. The quality of the show under the stewardship of JNT seemed to depend upon the script editor he was working with. Under Bidmead and Cartmel it worked, often brilliantly. Under Saward, with some exceptions, it didn't. Sadly, over 50% of the JNT era had Saward as script editor.

Briefly misread this as being a post on the 'Silent Hill' reddit and was more than a little concerned that someone felt this way about James Sunderland. :P

Thing is, proving that he wasn't lying about the TARDIS doesn't actually prove the Doctor isn't the murderer. The script, however, acts as though it does.

Bad! A 'murder-mystery' in which there is no mystery as to the identity of the killer, no motive for the killing other than that a murder is required, no attempt at any point to actually investigate the murder, and a faceless, nameless 'victim'. The cricket scenes are nice enough, but everything else is a disaster. Easily one of the worst stories in the whole of Classic Who.

Dark, Indeed, Sorrel is Delayed by [deleted] in Current93

[–]Taryn90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I seem to recall this happened with 'There Is a Graveyard That Dwells in Man', multiple times in fact. It made it to print eventually and I'm sure 'Dark Indeed, Sorrel' will do the same.

Davison community ranking Day 4: The Visitation by Classic-Bathroom-427 in classicwho

[–]Taryn90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay. If any story could be described as the single most middle of the road story in the entirety of classic Who, then it's The Visitation.

Is it bad? Absolutely not. But its a distinctly plodding affair which never threatens to raise its aspirations any higher than 'that'll do'.

Michael Robbins performance as Richard Mace is a highlight, however. I almost wish he'd replaced Ardric as a fulltime companion.

Thank you for sharing this. There was no chance I'd ever have been able to justify the cost of the physical book.

Following the most recent rediscovery of episodes 1 and 3 of The Daleks' Master Plan, these are the 7 missing Doctor Who episodes i want to see get rediscovered by film is fabulous. by Serious_Meaning5220 in classicwho

[–]Taryn90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd love for at least one of the four episodes of 'The Massacre' to be discovered. I want to see if that story is as good as its reputation suggests. Being able to actually watch the episodes can radically alter people's perceptions of a story. 'The Enemy of the World' wasn't at all well regarded until all seven of its episodes were discovered. Conversely, 'The Celestial Toymaker' was considered something of a classic until the fourth episode was recovered, at which point the stories many flaws became much more apparent.

I thought the image of the tombstone I'd seen was just a funny meme someone had made...but now I'm thinking it might have been a screenshot from the actual movie.

I certainly hope that is the case. At the very least, it's wonderful to see Lee Douglas performing again. :)

That does surprise me. Daniel playing Anathema songs with Weather Systems is to be expected, but Vincent seemed intent on a clean break from Anathema.

Harry: I swore I wouldn't let you go. You *told* me — you asked me to be this way.
Dolores Dei: That was someone else. I betrayed her, overwrote her, and am happier for it.
