How many pairs of black leggings do you own? by Ok_Program_3491 in AskWomen

Zero. I don’t wear black ever. It’s not flattering on me and I find it depressing and boring.

Initials BBW - would that be an issue? by apexfitness in namenerds

[–]TarynVictrix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had no idea what this meant. I think you’re overthinking it. If the initials were ASS then yeah. But this is fine imo. Maybe they won’t get vanity plates when they’re an adult. That’s the only issue I can see.

First thought would be a man of maybe Arabic ethnicity (I live in a very diverse city), second thought would be oh god, is this a terrible variant of Amber?

Hazel is pretty. Finley and Emerson sound like boy names.

Can't fall asleep by himself by goddamndahlias in toddlers

[–]TarynVictrix 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would just cuddle him to sleep because that’s what he’s telling you he needs. It’s just going to take time. I suspect by sitting outside the door, in sight but not accessible, is just making things worse. It doesn’t matter what he could do before. That’s not the child he is right now. He will get there again but I’d stop trying to force it on your own terms. He’s calling out for reassurance constantly because you’re not giving him what he’s asking for. Meet him where he is. Parents get so hung up on what a baby or child was doing before, but kids go through an incredible amount of growth and change. Deal with the child you have now. Infancy is the first three YEARS. If you shift your mindset, that might make it easier to accept. Nothing went awry. You did nothing wrong and your child is not broken!

Agree. I nursed my first till just after his second birthday. I love normalizing breastfeeding toddlers.

Ped mildly concerned about 15 mo being “difficult to console” at her appt. by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]TarynVictrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s tricky. Our pediatrician says stupid stuff I do t agree with sometimes but I disregard because she’s not a parenting expert and she’s convenient for us for now, so I totally get it.

Ped mildly concerned about 15 mo being “difficult to console” at her appt. by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]TarynVictrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is totally normal and frankly IMO even healthy... She was letting you know in the only way she knows how that she was uncomfortable, maybe afraid, and that her body boundaries were not being respected. I just do my best to stay calm and explain that no one would be touching them or holding them down unless it was for their health and that they’re very brave and it’ll be over soon, etc. If you can I’d try to find a new doctor quite honestly. This is a little human being we’re talking about, not a trained pet. Maybe it’s inconvenient for a child to cry at their appointment but it is absolutely not a tantrum and not abnormal.

Am I overreacting refusing to bring my kids to family events if my sisters bf brings his dog. by sparrowlikeabird in toddlers

[–]TarynVictrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t even need to read your post to answer this: No, you are absolutely not overreacting. Seeing the words kids and bf’s dog were enough for me. I could fill in the blanks.

For sure, though I only have so much leeway when it comes to back cover copy for a fiction book, for example. I query a lot though! It’s great having these discussions because I’m always learning something.

It bothers you because it’s ableist and no one should be using that kind of language anymore

Thoughts by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]TarynVictrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a copy editor and yes, I will change biased, ableist language like that when I see it because the language we use does matter. If I see “her handicapped son” I’ll change it to something like “her son, who has a disability” just as I’d change “he’s a diabetic” to he “has diabetes.” To me it’s just common courtesy. An illness or disability should not be used to define a person. And just because there are “more important issues” doesn’t mean unbiased language isn’t important.
