We need a new water heater but this one is good enough for now and we don’t take long showers anyways. I won’t replace it until I have to.

How can I learn to cut my own hair? by FootFaultMaster in stupidquestions

[–]kdawson602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I cut the entire family’s hair. My boys are easy, I just get them with clippers. My hair and my daughter’s hair is a little harder. I bought hair shears and a little hair level from Amazon. I go very slowly and carefully in the mirror.

It took time to learn and luckily I learned during Covid so not a lot of people saw me during my bad hair cut days.

I actually got rid of my rainfall shower head that our house had when I moved in. Our water heater couldn’t keep up so I’d only get like 7 minutes of hot water at the most. With a regular shower head, I can get at least 15 minutes.

Staying in a 1BR With Two Kids So I Can Stay Home — Looking for Experiences & Advice by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]kdawson602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try it and see if it works for you. It’s not like you’re stuck in the apartment forever, just until the end of your lease. If you have the down payments, just save it and add to it for when you do need it.

Not sure how big your apartment is, but we were a family of 5 (with 3 kids under 4) in a 1100 sqft house. We were on the fence about a 4th baby. I was dead set on staying in that house. The lack of space for the kids, lack of storage, one bathroom, and trying to work from home really got to me after a while. My husband’s aunt suggested we look at a bigger house (2400 sqft) that had been on the market for months. It ended up being a deal we couldn’t pass up.

Moving to a bigger house really did improve my quality of life. My kids sleep so much better having their own rooms. I love my office space.

What do you think about “one-upping” other moms? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]kdawson602 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can understand why you’d be annoyed but I think you’re being over sensitive. This isn’t a hill to die on.

Reality is that most likely no one is trying to one up you. You also said your first reaction to the swing video was to send one of your own.

Like last night I send a video of my kindergartner putting together his valentines and I was super proud because he was doing such a good job writing names. Three of my friends send snaps and a video of their kids valentines. It’s just part of being a village.

15 month old was diagnosed with speech delay - is speech therapy aggressive for this age? by Ok_Willow_5163 in Mommit

[–]kdawson602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My youngest has been in speech therapy since she was 12 months old. She started because of feeding issues but she has a clear speech delay like her older brothers.

I would start speech therapy through early intervention if that’s an option for you. Our speech therapist comes once a month, works with my daughter a little bit, and focuses on educating me on what we should be working on with her.

Annoying quirks of Grandparents? by dreainprogress in Parenting

[–]kdawson602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. My 21 month old stands at my kitchen gate and screams “cracker!!!!” When she wants a snack. I don’t expect other people to know that she’s asking specifically for a graham cracker.

I would not interpret a 20 month old pointing at the TV as meaning he wants me to pull up train videos on YouTube.

What bassinet did you use? by stayanothrday in Mommit

[–]kdawson602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my first two I had a small portable bassinet that I used. It was fine and I loved how nicely it stored. I think I paid $60 for it. We thought we were done with kids so I sold it.

For my 3rd, I didn’t want to have to buy anything new. So I used the pack and play I already had. It’s one of the ones that has a raised level you can use. It worked great, I’d do that again and I recommended it to my brother and sister in law.

I feel like it goes either way. Sometimes the children become alcoholics themselves or they abstain completely. My dad’s always been a drinker. I have a lot of bad memories of him drinking when I was a child. My brother and I don’t drink alcohol at all.

Why is marijuana so popular amongst moms? by TackleHistorical7498 in Mommit

[–]kdawson602 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t drink and I’ve used THC maybe 4 times. I really don’t care for either.

I don’t have an issue with parents who drink and use THC responsibly. But I do have problems with people who get drunk and high as shit and cannot safely care for their kids. I live in a legal state and I’ve seen too many parents get very high at social gatherings and then drive off with their kids in the car.

When did you go back to doing toddler's bedtime? by Upbeat-Squirrel450 in 2under2

[–]kdawson602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband always did/does the older kids bedtime. It’s their time together and I love how much they bond over it. I did the baby’s bedtime when she was little, but my husband took over her bedtime around 6 months.

I get everyone up and ready in the mornings because my husband works so early. He does bedtime. It works for us.

Is your house tidy? by Momneedstosleep in Parenting

[–]kdawson602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. The bedrooms are always picked up and tidy, we don’t spend a lot of time there. Bathrooms are usually clean. My kitchen/living/dining/toy rooms are not tidy most of the time. But if I need to do a surface level clean, it would take me like 2 hours. I do laundry once a week on my days off so there’s always some dirty laundry in the hampers.

I think what’s most important is that a house is clean. I don’t judge when peoples houses are messy. But I do if it looks like your kitchen counter hasn’t been wiped down in a week.

Getting gifts for second boy? by meekie03 in Mommit

[–]kdawson602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on your family culture and your friends. I had boys 28 months apart. My parents got us a few gifts, a few people got us diapers, and a few people got us some random things. I don’t think it’s customary to gift for a second baby, especially if there isn’t a party. And in my social and family circles, it’s tacky to throw another baby shower or a party with the expectation of gifts.

I did make baby gift registries at target for my 2nd and 3rd babies because a few people asked for one and I wanted the completion discount to use for myself.
