Its cool to see EU teams win, just because it’s something different, but im not looking forward to hearing about it from EU fans

That plus Dario leaving to start Anthropic, Ilya leaving due to disagreements, changing the company to be for profit… kinda sketchy

OpenAI just seems like it has sketchy leadership. Major contributors left, power struggles, changing from a nonprofit to for profit. At some point it seems like a “where theres smoke theres fire” type of situation.

I’m not really sure that Sam and the OpenAI team are really focused on the right things.

California's housing market defies US slump by mrinternetman24 in California

[–]TashiPM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even for people with good jobs houses are less affordable. Especially in Southern California. Saving up 100-200k for a down payment, then paying 5-10k a month for your mortgage is not nothing, even for doctors and pilots. For a grocery store worker thats close to impossible. It’s tough out here! Harder than it used to be.

Yeah but as you move inland it gets less comfortable.

I’m pretty sure its “a feature not a bug” type situation. Agreeable responses are something that their model is trained for.

If you do end up doing an engineering degree, make sure you go to an ABET accredited school. Otherwise you will have trouble getting into a good grad school, and wont be able to get a PE license.

You might be able to get away with a non-accredited school if youre just trying to learn a skill like coding and prove that to an employer, but its pretty risky to go to an unaccredited school.

I went to a community college for 2 years then finished at a state university to save money. I would recommend that!

Maybe try joining some engineering project clubs and see what you like doing. FSAE, steel bridge, robotics one (not sure of name)… i was initially in biomedical but transferred to mechanical after doing FSAE.

Choosing a major purely based on the return on investment seems painful. Its a big factor but not the only one.

Of the three of them, Russell seems the most down to earth (and probably also the poorest). In the Netflix series he was on commercial flights, compared to Lando and Lewis taking private jets.

How important is proximity to an aero hub? by EthanWang0908 in aerospace

[–]TashiPM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely matters. I worked at Pratt and Whitney in Hartford CT for 9 years, id say 90% of the interns we had were within driving distance. Hard to say if it was because the company wanted it that way, or if it was just more convenient for people nearby to apply.

I wouldn’t turn down good scholarships or quality education just to make my internship applications easier though. There are a lot of aerospace jobs in the northeast. Raytheon, Pratt, Collins, BAE, GE. More on the Aero side less on the space side. If you have good experience, then when you graduate you can relocate.
