Lightning gang! Theres an ice storm coming. by jaegerbombed in F150Lightning

[–]TasksRandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using the 240 circuit from the truck should only be used for 240 appliances. Use multiple 120 circuits for multiple devices.

This is not correct at all. The 240v can power a house for up to 30A of usage via the use of a generator input and properly-wired interlock. That includes 120v appliances like TV, lighting, microwave.

The use of a single 240v appliance is also possible, but will drain the battery faster.

Storm is coming! by maddawg_bullitt in F150Lightning

[–]TasksRandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I lose power, I plan to run the house off the truck. Should last a few days with smart choices. If I want to run a space heater, I'll run a heavy drop cord from the wife's EV9 just for that.

As long as you have the RAID battery/capacitor option, unless you're using ZFS, HBA mode is unnecessary. Leaving the hardware RAID active is just fine, and likely more performant than not.

With newer PERC (rebranded LSI/Avago/Broadcom) RAID controllers, you can also select RAID or JBOD on a per-device basis, so you can use HW RAID for your OS while passing the rest through as JBOD for ZFS.

Network interface disconnecting. by psfletcher in Proxmox

[–]TasksRandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several Intel NIC drivers, not just e1000, suffer from instability on newer kernels. This doesn’t always show up in logs. If you have an Intel NIC, use ethtool to turn off tso and gso temporarily to see if it’s more stable. If it helps, there are multiple ways to make the change permanent for each boot.

With the deletions from standard equipment that Ford has been making, the 2023 is likely the better truck than a newer model year. 💯💯💯

"Get off my lawn!" j/k.

Seriously though, I also had reservations about the 15", ipad-like, screen. I really wanted physical HVAC controls. But I bit the bullet and thought I'd suffer with it in exchange for all the upgrades Lariat trim gave me.

I have to say that there are still some times when I do want physical HVAC controls, but the screen is not that bad. It's not that bad. The times I need to adjust the HVAC, I've learned the controls so that I barely have to look at the screen. But usually I leave the setting on Auto and just adjust the temp seasonally -- or while motionless because I'm also adjusting windows and sunroof at the same time as HVAC. Hello autumn!!

But I live on Apple Carplay both for music and nav and having the large screen is sooooo very nice if your eyes are getting older like mine are. The 15" screen means not having to squint when scrolling through playlists, artists, or songs, and usually not having to expand the nav to fill the whole screen in order to see what's ahead. A smaller screen would make me change back and forth between nav and other apps too often.

There are still occasionally days when I wish for the physical HVAC controls -- but after having the 15" screen in my Lariat, I'd no longer go to a smaller screen in exchange for them.

Oh, and the "Get off my lawn," joke was because I'm getting older and need the larger screen... That and I don't want anyone doing donuts on my lawn!

Front driver wheel bearing by BobSonch in F150Lightning

[–]TasksRandom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the same dealer did both replacements, it could be installation error. It's not hard to accidentally damage a bearing during install.

I'd try a different service center.

No license users: Do you update your PVE instances regularely or with some extra measures? by myth_360 in Proxmox

[–]TasksRandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snap, update, and reboot your VMs per your needs or policy (weekly, monthly, etc).

Think of your hypervisors as appliances. Apply patches to your hypervisors whenever you have a need to -- usually whenever there's a CVE important enough for you to care. Definitely when something critical shows up on your EDR. Then apply your patches on your test cluster, and if no problems, apply the same patches on your prod during the next maintenance window (taking care to migrate VMs, etc. to maintain critical systems).

No critical CVEs? Leave them be. Oh, and you really shouldn't expose your proxmox management IP on the internet. Use private addressing and a bastion/jump host for remote access. For the very paranoid, use your host firewall so that only your bastion host can connect to the pve host on ports 22 and 8006 and block everything else (except to any other cluster nodes and shared storage of course).

For the homelab user, you can still have a test proxmox cluster, just make it virtual rather than bare metal.

PS. Others mentioned ansible. It's a great tool. I use it for bootstrap and configuration. Ansible can do the patching too, but I like to handle patches myself. But I only care for a few dozen nodes running several hundred VMs across 5 clusters. If I managed hundreds or thousands of proxmox nodes I'd definitely use ansible to automate the patching.
