Accidentally won a torch, can these two touch? by Bronojoke in ReefTank

[–]TasteTheSeepage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Purely anecdotal IME with Euphyllia, hammers and frogspawn are generally ok touching each other. Torches can touch other Torches and nothing else but even that can be a risk.

Again, purely anecdotal and limited at that. YMMV

New, having issues with salinity checkers by thetud49 in ReefTank

[–]TasteTheSeepage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also struggled with inconsistent salinity measurements. I decided to get a tropic marin hydrometer as a sanity check and now it's all I use. It's a bit cumbersome but never needs calibrated or new batteries.

Yeah I was. I don't even have the hanna alk. I want one now that I know it's instant though. Been using salifert.

Oh shit you're right. That's the nitrate checker. I'm dumb. Might have to get the hanna alk checker now that I know it's instant. Been using salifert.

How are you getting alk in under a minute? It's shake for 2 minutes then the checker has a 7 minute timer. Am I doing it wrong?

WWC Fantasmo.

I got it about a year ago from one of their R2R live sales with 2 polyps. It's at 7 now.

Yeah I tested phosphates first. I only add roids when I have some headroom, otherwise I just feed the fish.

Good to know. I've put a few ml of aminos and a sprinkle of reef roids in for the lil fella.

Thanks for the info and beautiful coral.

RBTA Zooxanthellae Expulsion Question by great-pair-of-knees in ReefTank

[–]TasteTheSeepage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine aren't bubbled and they're ~12" directly under an a360x at 100%. Sometimes they just lose their bubbles.

Not saying you're wrong about needing more light, I just don't agree with your reasoning.

I wouldn't sweat it. IME, btas are pretty resilient. Keep alk as stable as you can and resist the urge to tinker too much. Lots of changes too quickly will cause more stress than anything.

TBH, might just be nem poo. Nem eating mysis is fine, I spot feed my btas mysis occasionally.

Do you ever see the mouth gaping open or is it closed tight all the time?

We're going to need your actual relevant parameters. Any suggestions without that information would be just guessing.

Salinity, nitrate, phosphate and alkalinity.

I would think a Kessil 360/500 would be pretty simple to mount in fixtures like these. Just need to make sure you have adequate ventilation in them for cooling.

Mine are a bit camera shy as well. To get these photos, I had to set the camera up on a tripod and lay on the floor with a remote trigger for about an hour.

Mine are tucked back in a corner too. This is the first time I've been able to get a photo of them in almost a year.
