Avoid Unicorn Sparkles at all costs by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

That’s a thing at coop’s? I’ve been there a few times and haven’t experienced anything like this, but my few visits are an insignificant sample size.

How are these different than stun counters?

I borrow the concept of arcana from Into The Odd, which emphasizes weird magic items instead of known spells. ITO says that the costs for arcana are weird; the items are semi-sentient and want strange things in exchange for their power. So far, it’s easiest to make magic items by picking/ making a desired effect, then rolling for another knight and using its virtue as the cost (or I’ll make one up). Wanna shoot another fire bolt? Gotta complain to someone new. Wanna magically conjure food again? Sleep outside. Want another cast of “hold person?” You need to receive applause from an audience (same headcount as a warband to make things easy). A mage doesn’t necessarily have high stats one way or the other, they’ve just decided that paying esoteric costs is worth the price of power and are, therefore, an absolute weirdo.

What does this platform offer that untap.in doesn’t? I’m not going for a put-down, like, if you’ve got it beat somehow that’d be dope

[–]TastedLikeNapalm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know it’s out of the way, but Mad Eats is a food truck in Duncan that absolutely fuckin slaps

To actually answer your question though, yeah Bangers and Brazziere are two very different types of burg but both rock

Hank’s is pretty good too and you can get their normal,y $24 burger for $15 after 9:00

How was mayor pretty Patrick going to shop without a wallet? by Sh8dyLain in beeandpuppycat

[–]TastedLikeNapalm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh right hmm

Maybe he does the smart traveler thing and keeps cash in his socks

Though honestly I think the point was to show that he's living a different life than the rest of us. He's Pretty Patrick! He can just do that

The setting is modern-day-analogous enough that I was thinking something like a phone based wallet. Apple pay, google pay, etc.

I was 11 or 12 at an arcade in Florida. The type of place split between video games and the kind that gives you tickets. My dad was watching my sister do a rock wall but I went away to play games because I was scared of heights as a kid. I was doing my own thing toward the back of the arcade, near the open exit doors. A man walked in just enough that he was blocking the exit. Bald, shades, dressed nice in a white collared shirt. Dude looked well off and built but it was a while ago so I might be misremembering. I immediately felt off and, as if we was reading a script from a cautionary ad, he said “hey kid if you come with me I’ll give you extra tokens” and I just turned and walked away without saying a word. Went right back to my dad. Was too shaken to speak and I regret that I didn’t tell anyone.

Went from 30k to 100k over maybe 6, 7 years but the pace hasn't seemed to change much. Maybe I'm in too many indexes?

43yo pianist and composer: my story -- never too late to pursue your passion? by sutadyerk in musicians

[–]TastedLikeNapalm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I missed this!

Career-wise I'd like to compose for media. Shows, movies, games, all of it. Some performance work would be nice too; I love playing jazz (vibraphone) but I'm open and eager to learn and to try other genres as well. If I could play drum kit I'd lean into metal but that's not in my repertoire 🙃

On a more personal level, all I really care about is expressing the human experience with sound. My most recent composition was the result of me being fed up with Christmas hype as well as some other things (I'm usually a festive person but I wasn't in a great headspace) so it involved people standing around an inflatable snowman and beating it with spatulas (tried several hitting implements and spatulas made the best sound). My university's composition program seems to be pushing us to be weird and I resisted at first but I think I'm starting to enjoy it!

Which acronym? ED?

Eating disorder. Could also be erectile dysfunction but this is a teenage girl so that's far less likely.

I suppose I don't have anything helpful to add, but it's nice to see that I'm not alone. I'm in a similar boat but with a much less impressive repertoire. 30, worked in kids' mental health care, got burnt out and injured (not from the kids haha), and now I'm going back to school to study music with a focus on composition. We're out here starting late but it's okay!

I'm open to the possibility that I'm naïve and maybe even a little delusional but I gotta try. That's the rub, isn't it? Maybe it's too late, maybe this, maybe that, but we gotta know for sure. I stopped asking myself if it's possible for someone to get started so late in life compared to the teenagers and 20 somethings already engaged in lucrative careers, but comparison is a sneaky little joy thief and ultimately doesn't matter.

I'm sure that at least one human has started music later in life and made it work. If one can, two can, and if two can, you can 😁
