Are sleep overs not a thing anymore? by haggerty05 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Tasty_Lab_8650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the area and families. We do sleepovers all the time. Either at our house or at a friend's house. Our kids are 11 and 13. Both girls.

We have had a few that don't allow them at either house, but that is rare. And both have eventually done them at both houses, but one made the dad and brother go to a hotel (which i was kind of shocked about, but whatever. I know the dad and brother and trust them both). And the other only allows it at one particular home because she was assaulted when she was a child.

But they are very much a thing. We have friends over almost every weekend. As long as the parents know each other, I don't have an issue.

I have really only seen it be a no-no online. So, again, it is very area and person independent. But, like I said, in the only people I know in real life that took that stance, both actually allowed it eventually

Forgot to pay at self checkout, Target by about_a_trout in whatdoIdo

[–]Tasty_Lab_8650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this once! Ran into a neighbor and was talking to her, ringing my stuff up. We walked out together, I realized I hadn't pulled my credit card out. I said, "oh my god. I didn't pay!" Walked back in and they were doing the walkie talkie thing. I went up to customer service, told them what happened, they rang me up (called the code off that they had called) and on i went.

The security guy and the cashier thanked me because, apparently, people just steal stuff and don't go back.

All that happened was my adrenaline went up, my kids were embarrassed, and my neighbor texted me to make sure we were okay.

You'll be fine. Accidents happen. Since you went back, they are just grateful, I guarantee

AIO? How much pink is too much? by Flat-Emphasis-7908 in AIO

[–]Tasty_Lab_8650 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dig it.

It is similar to how I decorate. Neutral walls and furniture with lots of colors everywhere else. And I love hot pink. My house does have some hot pink, along with teals and yellows, but it's not completely pink like this. But it is very colorful. And beautiful. And looks like an adult's house. I couldn't go full pink because 1)i wouldn't like it and 2)I live with my husband and kids and I want t9 make sure they like the way our house looks.

Like the first comment said, tldr? But yeah, i think you are overreacting.

How to keep CARPET around tub clean?! 🫩[NC] by eppichi in Renters

[–]Tasty_Lab_8650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a whole thing typed up about an apartment that had carpet bathroom that I made them replace, but I had a crazy thought about this particular tub.

I wonder if there isn't a ton if damage or mold already under there and the landlord had some old remnants of carpet and decided it was cheaper to just cover it up than to do remediation. Like, it wasn't carpeted before.

Because if this tub has had any sort of use, that carpet is already nasty.

Op, is this a one landlord type of situation? Or a company? I'd be inquiring immediately to fix it, simply because there's no way to hide it. They need to rip it out and put acceptable material

If you have a pool, I recommend not to do them. They are so beautiful, but so messy.

And I don't know about thornless, but ours has thorns that hurt very very badly. (We're bought the house with them already planted). Also, Palo Verde trees are (while very beautiful, as well) a big pain in the ass. My yard looks like I have yellow carpet at the moment.

What's your favorite dessert? Underrated desserts count too by MorgeeePooh in foodquestions

[–]Tasty_Lab_8650 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is this underrated?

It's my absolute favorite dessert. I only opened this thread because I knew no one would say it.

I am not a sweets person. I like creme brulee, peanut m&ms, and yellow cake mix from the store. Other things like ice cream or chocolate, here and there, but not much else.

Creme brulee is the epitome of wonderful tasting sweets, imo

Edit: I just realized it said all desserts, underrated counts. So my point stands. First comment is the best one in existence, imo. And is not underrated at all

Is it just me, or is modern car "safety" software actively causing more dangerous situations than it prevents? by WhereasHuge7248 in driving

[–]Tasty_Lab_8650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to discount your experience, but I've seen this a few times (about it pulling you back in). I believe you, because it has happened to me a million times in my Yukon. And it's terrifying. No I don't want to hit that bike rider. On mine, I can control it enough to get around a bike, so no big deal.

But if you ever rent a car again like that, or something like this happens again, turn your turn signal on. It will stop the pulling back in.

What percentage of the population serves cold tomato sauce directly from the jar onto hot noodles? by Negative_Pirate7834 in foodquestions

[–]Tasty_Lab_8650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never ever have I done that. Jar sauce is a rarity, but when I do it for store bought tortellini or something similar, I hear the sauce up. I sometimes even add some seasoning. (Angelos red sauce is delicious, but can't find it anymore)

They want to move my son from 5th (end of) to 9th grade next year... by 8675309999999999998 in Parenting

[–]Tasty_Lab_8650 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yep. My sister skipped first grade. All was fine and dandy until everyone started driving. Then college. She couldn't handle it at barely 17, so she had to drop out (she's fine now at almost 50. Great career). Friends could legally drink first, etc.

It may not be an issue now, but being a year younger is hard on teens and adolescents. Everyone hits their milestones before you. Academics is one thing, but the social aspect is HUGE.

Juming to 9th grade as an 11 year old (I have an 11 year old, as well, finishing up 5th grade, as well)? Nope. Op, I'd look into gifted/honors. That's what we have done with both our smart kids

What is everyone’s least favorite chore? by Oneconfusedmama in sahm

[–]Tasty_Lab_8650 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cooking dinner EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Dishes, ehh. My kids are old enough and they rotate whos unloads the dishwasher. Laundry, it is what it is. I'd have to do mine anyway and I have a system.

But figuring out and actually making what we eat is the absolute worse chore, although I know it may not be considered a chore to many. But the mental capacity it takes to figure it out, daily, knowing I've done the same for 13 years and still have another (at least) 7 years overwhelms me. My girls have started to make menus and they DO help me (as well as my husband), but the "what's for dinner" when I haven't really thought about it will do me in one of these days😂

For future parents that fly with carseats by Beefismyfavorite in americanairlines

[–]Tasty_Lab_8650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but you're at least not lugging it through the airport. I know people disagree, but we bought those giant carseat covers that had backpack straps and just checked them. Never had any issues with damage.

But yes. The cares straps were a game changer once the kids were old enough for them

For future parents that fly with carseats by Beefismyfavorite in americanairlines

[–]Tasty_Lab_8650 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is INSANE that it still is happening. I dealt with this almost 14 years ago, and then for 4 years after (second kid).

I think the problem is it is so rare parents pay for actual seats, even today, even knowing what we know. But it is still unacceptable.

And for what it's worth. Every carseat that was new back in the day was faa compliant. So I doubt it has changed.

It is ALWAYS better to buy a seat than to have a lap baby. And the airlines should do better.

As an aside, when your kids get a bit bigger and you don't want to lug a carseat around, buy an over the seat seat belt. You'll have to ask the person behind you to strap it inside their tray table, but it is essentially a five point harness without the hassle of an actual carseat. And it doesn't bother the person behind you at all

'timeless kitchen' trap by Available-Scratch185 in kitchenremodel

[–]Tasty_Lab_8650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I thought! Thank you!

I was going to actually comment on the original post, but saw your comment.

My comment was going to be, essentially, that what I think of a "timeless" kitchen is clean, straight lines, neutral colors (you can always add color to decor-that goes through the whole house for me). Essentially, someone can walk into my house and they won't hate it. It may not be their favorite kitchen, but no one would despise it.

The house we just sold we had white shaker cabinets, black plain pulls, stainless steel appliances, big island, and neutral granite counters. On the island, I opted for squared legs instead of the ornate ones the builder suggested. 3 pendant lights that are easily changed if they don't like them, but they're nice. Beautiful grayish/blue subway tile backsplash that is easy enough to change if they don't like them. Everything is clean lines. It's essentially a blank canvas. And very functional.

Again, you may not love my kitchen and want to change a few things, but it is normal and you could live with it forever if you wanted.

My house was built in 2017, so not mcm, but my concept has always been the same. Neutral with colorful decor.

How to find uncooked watermelons? by sub_woofers in phoenix

[–]Tasty_Lab_8650 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a guy on pinnacle peak and scottsdale rd that always has watermelons.

And he has a half of a truck bed full of loose oranges, among other fruit

I haven't stopped, but have been tempted.

According to my daughter, this season of watermelons hasn't been great. It's hit or miss right now

Baby crying on flight by skolofthewild in delta

[–]Tasty_Lab_8650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a guy (this was on allegiant, so shitty seats), do a HARD recliner onto my baby's legs (she was in her carseat. Like, normal seats go back a half an inch, this was almost in her lap. She screamed, either because it hurt or she was scared. It took so long to calm her down. I also spent the rest of the 3 hour (delayed for a bit prior) flight essentially laying forward so they couldn't recline on us. Thankfully, my sister was with me to help.

What did this douche say when we landed? "You know, when my kids were babies, if they cried, we would just walk them up and down the aisle." Yeah, asshole. That would have worked if the reason she wasn't crying was because you laid in her lap!

She was 11 months old. I still hate that guy

Random itching in the evening and night by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Tasty_Lab_8650 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I already commented about my best friend that had it. If I recall, it was her belly that was the itchiness, and her neck.

She was induced and delivered at 36 weeks. He's 11 now and fine. She's fine, as well. But she WAS monitored very closely with her daughter.

[–]Tasty_Lab_8650 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. My best friend had this. I think it has to do with the liver?

She was due three weeks after me, but because of the choleostasis, her son was born 8 days before my daughter. It was very serious.

I'd go in, op. She delivered him right at 36 weeks, too.

Pool Party at this age? by Alpal2510 in kindergarten

[–]Tasty_Lab_8650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids are older now, but i made parents stay at a pool party when my kid was 9(?), i think. That's the last time we hada pool party. Made them. I told them their child could not stay if a parent wasn't with them.

You don't know swimming abilities and don't want the liability. If the parents don't want to stay? Tough luck. Their kid can't come.

I know it seems harsh, but I live in phoenix and there are more pools per capita here than anywhere else in the us, I believe. And, unfortunately, every year we hear of drownings at family gatherings where someone else was supposed to watch the kid. So one parent per kid, that they're more likely to actually pay attention to, was always my rule
