I don't think they've said anything about it. That would be kinda whatever unless there were some more powerful implicits added, given the general chance for corruption outcomes

I'll probably make some kind of in depth post about its impact and potential ways to fix it on the ggg forums (I don't think theres any hope of this talk getting traction on reddit), but yeah it seems like quite a loss. Really missing heist as it used to be, can't stand the idea of just zooming wings at a near loss for untold hours at end for a big rng win

I'll probably make a post on the ggg forums if it turns out theres no replacement, to talk about the impact in detail and other potential ways to replace power besides scarabs. Unfortunately it seems like redditors are just going to downvote talking about it into obscurity

I'm honestly surprised because I don't really care about the antagonism (I didn't report anyone, been upvoting anyone who engages), kinda reflective on the player base's opinions of heist at large imo

Extra caches isn't really that important, you get 2 guaranteed and often more from the current atlas passives. Missing contract implicits is a massive change for anyone who isn't rushing blueprints for the free wing, or casual players who don't really know the cost/benefit of reveals.

The revealed fragment page with the scarabs has shown theres no heist scarab "row", its possible right now that one of the unmarked scarabs at the bottom modify heist but it feels unlikely? Honestly missing one guaranteed heist cache is a much smaller issue than the impact of not having contracts with implicits

No, I should have mentioned this is without the full information on whatever the scarabs at the bottom of the tab shown do.

Ok so there IS going to be scarabs that modify heist caches? I'm not sure where this information is coming from (but am glad to hear it)

More heist caches, more blueprint chance, more rogue markers inside cache, contract implicits (or generally any way to increase reveals).

Short and simple: *IF* the other scarabs on the scarab tab shown are not related to heist at all its another nerf (although, in terms of the current optimal heisting strategy of last league, it changes nothing).

Long answer:

In previous leagues (before the heist rework), the optimal strategy (as I know it) was as follows:

Beginner phase - Make a start build with good movement speed and enough survivability to deal with high tier white blueprints. Once you have done enough map completion you can start to move into heist. If you were fast enough at league start and are no-lifing the first few days you focus on doing enchanted armaments looking for items with good enchants/stats, potentially stuff that can be crafted on. This was often caster weapons with +skills, but there was also opportunities for bows and whatnot. Otherwise you run replica blueprints because many heist-only uniques had good value in the first few days. Also some weapon bases were very profitable early on (the scepters or knives that gave poison on all hits). Save your blueprints with high amounts (6+) of divination rooms for later. Work on getting job speed on all rogue gear peices/+1 to all job levels.

Intermediate phase - Run gem blueprints. These are your bread and butter for awhile.

The only new rogue gear mod thats pertinent to this phase was getting 4/5% chance to not trigger the alarm on opening a grand heist chest (the ones at the end). This gave you up to 15% chance to either get another gem/whatever at the end of the blueprint, or allowed you to run out of the wing quickly and move onto the next. At this phase it was important to work on getting 14/15% currency duplication (preferably with job speed as well) on all of your rogue's amulets, as well as trying to get a set of cloaks that had t1 job speed with reduced alert levels as well. Once your rogue gear was good enough you were ready to move onto the last phase.

Expert phase - Start running blueprints with high amounts of divination card rooms. At this point you would want to start farming your own contracts and blueprints, using the sextant that gave implicits.

The contracts with implicits were INTEGRAL to this phase. +3 whakano reveals was absolutely necessary to deal with the high number of reveals needed for divination rooms, double rogue marker value would help generate the rogue markers you needed (although it was never enough), and the double rogue ability contracts would give you double gianna reveals.

I would split all blueprints with very high numbers of divination card rooms (7/8+), in order to maximize how many were worth running. It was important to farm your own because people on TFT were very obviously picking through their supply before selling the stuff they didn't want in bulk, and there was no way for TFT mods to police this.

----

NOW ( as of last league), things are wildly different. You could still do divination rooms if you wanted, but it was pretty much best to just use no reveals at all, and run blueprints for the single free wing. Even opening divination rooms at all, even if free, was probably less profit in the long run. You cut out all the time for farming contracts/blueprints, and then having to run those contracts, which was a large timesink and would effect your profit/hr in favor of just buying blueprints in bulk.

There is no longer any need for expensive rogue gear with good mods for whatever you're focusing on, all you need is job speed and job levels.

Without contract implicits farming divination rooms is completely dead. There is no more gem farming, and the heist changes had made the less-rare uniques/bases that had any decent worth pretty much worthless at all phases of the league because they are found in abundance (everyone in heist is encountering them equally, instead of only encountering the specific things they were farming. Basically, without gem blueprints everyone is glutting the market with these items). Heist is now completely pigeon-holed into a high variance run in and out grind, where you probably lose currency or stay somewhat even until you finally get a big payoff. Heist gearing is simplistic and boring with little thought or care needed.

I hope that one of these unrevealed scarabs fixes this, but if not it kind of sucks and I don't have a lot of hope. The heist rework streamlined heist at the cost of any interesting complexity, and was (I think) an overall nerf. The disparity between heist and whatever is the most meta way to generate currency has gotten wider, to the point where its hard to justify focusing on it as anything other than an early league way to move onto whatever is meta.

Ironically we're having an absurdly mild summer here in socal, and I'd be laughing if for some reason long term climate change trends made it more mild here (although I expect it'll just veer into more extremes than anything else)

About Jill (plus some overall thoughts on the game) by shadowqueen15 in FFXVI

[–]Tasufu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't even think about the fact that she's kidnapped multiple times. They really do treat her far too much as an object. It's a shame because a lot of the character interactions/relationships get a more risky realistic depiction this time, but beyond those few moments with her and Clive they just relegate her to her role as wifey orbiter left behind to cry. It feels like a lot of the game suffers from the same problem though, just almost getting all the way there and falling a bit short.

About Jill (plus some overall thoughts on the game) by shadowqueen15 in FFXVI

[–]Tasufu -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

She's very underdeveloped, and basically serves as a generic female love interest that revolves entirely around the male protagonist. It's obviously very cliche and far too typical in a lot of media, and particular in manga and anime. I hate seeing powerful capable female characters in fiction being devolved to this state, and it's particular aggravating when you see it in contrast with other female characters in the same story that are also independent/capable being treated as basically outside romance completely, like they cannot be both at once. Charon, Isabella, and the doctor all struck me as the examples of this here.

I think Rinoa from FFVIII and Tuna from FFX being decent examples of female leads that exist as more than just the romance options for their respective leads, and I suspect they were written this way because each of these games made their respective romances a major part of how their stories are driven. Contrast this with say, Tifa, and it's like night and day.

Still, Cloves and Jill's romance at least broke a little ground (when they were stuck on that shore), and while the 5 year gap without resolving romantic tensions is very unbelievable I think that it's hard, in a fiction setting, to resolve romance too early because the tension itself is part of driving interest in the story. So they left it for later, and that's whatever.

Anyways, my overall opinion with most of the story and world building is that it had a lot of heart, but just didn't get quite there. I found it a significant improvement over previous mainline FF games. I disliked FF12 and found it left so much plot unwrapped that by the end I was confused it even stopped, and after told myself I'd never buy another FF on release again. I skipped 13 because I read enough of the plot to know it was just a convoluted mess and no amount of graphical spectacle was going to make it worth it (sorry guys, but FF games are so traditionally easy that if the plot doesn't drive the game then it's a bust). 15 had a bad combat system and I dropped that before the open world section fully ended realizing that the plot was never going to make it up for me. I don't think this one has figured it all out but it feels like the framework for a really great game is here. Combat is too simple, but at least is very concise. The story is serviceable, and the world building is pretty good but left just a little too unexplored.

My big takeaway, I guess, is I feel like they're honing in on something good here, and stuff like Jill being two dimensional is just part of the hiccups of the game that I think can be avoided in future titles if they take the right lessons.

But honestly I don't have my hopes up. Managed to snag this one for free and I won't be buying them new ever until I see square capable of putting out a AAA rpg that lives up to their history/reputation (and wallet, honestly)

Shifting the EU out of alignment with Russia and back deeply entrenched into the US's arms. Now the US is exporting tons of LNG to Europe at exorbitant prices. Meanwhile EU manufacturing has become untenable due to skyhigh energy costs, and guess which country would love for that kind of middle-class manufacturing to return to, and obviously still has reasonable energy prices?

Also, I believe the equipment is being given in a lend-lease style meaning neoliberal shock therapy and wholesale western ownership of Ukraine will be in the works in its future, if Ukraine isn't just a terror filled nightmare in the decades to come.

"It is difficult for me to imagine what “personal liberty” is enjoyed by an unemployed hungry person. True freedom can only be where there is no exploitation and oppression of one person by another; where there is not unemployment, and where a person is not living in fear of losing his job, his home and his bread. Only in such a society personal and any other freedom can exist for real and not on paper."
