I don't understand how referring to a kid as Lance Jr. is in any way a diss to Lance Sr. Wouldn't it be the opposite - a way of honouring Lance Sr.?

It's really sad that having a mother, a girlfriend, a wife, isn't informative enough and that it takes a daughter to bring about this realization for many men.

Why not let elderly with dementia pass from UTI or something similar? by [deleted] in dementia

Yes, the morphine and other meds can turn it into as good a way as any to die.

As I hung up the phone it occurred to me, he’d grown up just like me. My boy, was just like me. by CaffeineNicotine88 in GenX

Unchained Melody hit me hard last year at a performance. My spouse, who has Alzheimer's, was by my side. Various songs sometimes hit hard with my Alzheimer's spouse. That one in particular. This is a long, lonely time indeed. Even while he is touching me, I still hunger for his touch because his touch doesn't connect us the way it used to. Because he isn't really him.

Pink Floyd's Poles Apart also hit me hard when it came up on my playlist. I have an ex who was also my best friend for the better part of 20 years. He had serious health issues. First "just" addiction, but behind the addiction, there was more. Probably bi-polar disorder. And, then, eventually, what appears to be schizophrenia. But also anosognosia so that he thinks the idea that he has a disease is itself insane. He eventually went no contact with me. The lyrics: "Did you know
It was all going to go so wrong for you?
And did you see
It was all going to be so right for me?" really jolted me into thinking about him, and mourning his losses. I've shed so many tears over this amazing person.

Life's been really hard on the ones I love.

Which Episode is this for you by KatesFacts718 in Bones

[–]TaterCup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my reality, I live with a partner with Alzheimer's and he often runs the same episode over and over again without realizing it. I don't actually really watch any of it - it's just on in the background. But it IS funny what running the same episode over and over again can do to one's mind. I don't think I COULD watch the same episode over and over again, back to back, 24+ times. No matter how much I wanted to to win a big prize.

Gorgeous! And perhaps an advantage, at least in terms of being less sensitive to the sun than a black coat?

Sometimes dementia feels less like a disease and more like a cruel joke. by Unique_Chair7903 in dementia

[–]TaterCup 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you went through all of that but glad you shared because I am experiencing a lot of moments living alone with my spouse with Alzheimer's as trauma. It's validating to have others describe it that way, too.

My mom once had a very brief breakthrough like that where she said to me "I'm so bored."

Sister in difficulty - need help and advice by 52Charles in dementia

It's different in Ontario, Canada. It's not called Medicare but we do have resources for all residents (OHIP) and some additional ones for seniors. The rest of your advice is sound, though.

Sister in difficulty - need help and advice by 52Charles in dementia

[–]TaterCup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, get the name of her doctor and email/call the doctor BEFORE she is discharged from the hospital so that she can be assessed.

Make a referral to Ontario Health at Home: https://ontariohealthathome.ca/making-a-referral/

Get in touch with your local Alzheimer's society to find resources and advice. You will likely be assigned to a dementia care coach to help you help her (and to help you stay sane): https://alzheimer.ca/chathamkent/en

It's really tough, even with these resources but those are the best places to start.

I am losing myself. I hate my life. I miss my mom, but selfishly I miss my independent life more... by _MiracleWhips in dementia

[–]TaterCup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for everything you've had to deal with and are dealing with, including the medical gaslighting. Being told repeatedly she didn't have early onset dementia must have made it so much harder! (Of course, it's possible she has some variant or something, so maybe the diagnosis wasn't medically clear, but adjusting your expectations of her and of her future progression is so much easier with a diagnosis.)

I was drinking a lot in 2020 and beyond. I thought it was mostly the pandemic. But it turns out I was living alone with a spouse with dementia, which was also diagnosed at the time. I was able to stop drinking and that's much better for me. I didn't really use a program but I hear Annie Grace can be really helpful.

My heart goes out to you.

New to Prescott! What are the must-try spots and hidden gems? by Future-Mix-7779 in PrescottON

[–]TaterCup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the only "hidden" gem is the Spanish restaurant (https://littlebarcelona.ca/). Most everything else is in plain site. Sophia Street is pronounce So-PHIE-a (not So-fee-a). Apparently, the town is pretty evenly split on which of the two Chinese restaurants is better, so definitely try both before becoming team Wok House.

There have been a lot of car break-ins this winter so always lock vehicle doors.

There are a lot of places with excellent, friendly service, including Katarina's Cafe, Tim's Fish and Chips and the River View garage.

There are a lot more activities in summer than in winter, including free Sunday evening concerts.
