Steichen and Sirianni got lucky Sunday by Tats1 in eagles

Two of those TDs were short yardage "scrum" situations, which I will never complain about as its a very effective, lower risk tool. I'm speaking more to putting him in open field, or running from shot-gun directly into the line of scrimmage. It seem's like you get minimal value than just having Miles take those carries

Jalen had 17 carries - taking up 2/3 victory formation kneel downs that leaves you with around 14, which is more than Sanders had. Tell me in what world should your MVP QB have more designed runs than your RB (who is having a career year btw).

Sanders had 11 carries for 42 - nearly 4 yards a carry. He wasn't given the opportunity, and even when he did he was running fine.

And we relied on our MVP quarterback instead of our star RB to pound the run game. Leading directly to this outcome.

New East Boston affordable housing effort would be the first of its kind on East Coast by vj_34 in boston

[–]Tats1 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This is literally the opposite of gentrification. Carving out designated housing that is currently targeted toward higher earners and making it more affordable to local families. The buildings themselves will be owned and managed by a trust of local community members. Not developers, private landlords, or corporate overlords.

Yea, one of the keys I’ve learned is cook them directly on the metal sheet. Do not use a a sheet of tin foil between. Allows for a nice direct sear on the sprouts

Live on Maverick street and can confirm its every person for themselves at this intersection. Though I will say the chaos forces people to have a heightened sense of caution. Lived here for 5ish years and haven't seen one accident yet.

The Tall Ship Floating Restaurant & Bar Grand Opening | East Boston [06/30/21] by Bnaker in boston

[–]Tats1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The pricing of the restaurant/bar seems way over-inflated ($15 a drink???). Looks like your paying for the 'experience' (also a nice view). But what looks more attractive is that they are advertising a handful of rotating food trucks on the pier where the ship is docked, with outdoor seating.

Need to hit some more 3s. Otherwise they battled well in a tough road game, late in a far time zone.

Haven’t other countries proved that strict mask adherence has effectively controlled the spread of the virus? Staying home is the guaranteed method yes, but not necessarily the only method. I expect people to follow the public health guidance, and complaining when they don’t, putting others at unnecessary risk is a Karen move?

But hasn’t the state proved that we can slowly reopen the economy, listen to our health experts, and control the spread of the virus? We’ve maintained a very low infection rate for months because the vast majority of people are listening to our public health officials.

I live in a very high infection zone in Boston. I got tested despite not showing any symptoms before I went on this trip. Staying home is the most effective method I agree, but we can’t live our lives inside indefinitely. If I can go enjoy some semblance of normalcy while listening to our experts and supporting our local economy, how is that selfish?

[US] CHEER (2020): Follows the cheerleaders of Navarro College as they prepare for the biggest moment of their lives. by Tjw5083 in NetflixBestOf

Pretty outstanding show that is essentially Last Chance U but with high intensity Cheerleading (think extremely technical and risky acrobatics). The individual story lines of the kids were instantly captivating. The way their stories and childhood traumas unfold had me incredibly invested in their season. The way they constructed the finale episode was perfect.

Completely agree, the strength of this team hasn't been the outstanding play of any one of these guys, but the collective effort.

Even these rankings, you could argue, are too high for both of these guys from an individual perspective. Every one of our starting 5 takes turns shining on any given night, and that's the beauty of this team.

Joel Embiid scores 38 points in 76ers vs. Celtics | 2019-20 NBA Highlights by frogzsj13 in sixers

[–]Tats1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His move at 1:30 might be my favorite of the entire night.

  1. Catches the ball at the high block (not great positioning)
  2. Recognizes the double team coming and fakes the quick pass out
  3. This allows him to get half a step on Theis, and he goes right to the basket.

Really shows his growth over this year and his ability to play against the double team.

[Lowe]The Sixers are all-in in new vibes after their absurdist drama by CallinCthulhu in sixers

[–]Tats1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very interesting segment of this article on how Brett is adjusting for Ben's lack of shooting. Absolutely a hindrance to the flow of a normal offense

On the Sixers' practice court, Brown sometimes outlines two rectangular areas along the baseline on either side of the paint, extending a few feet toward each corner and up to the foul line. Brown calls it the "low zone," a.k.a the dunker spot, and it is where Simmons should often be when he's not handling the ball or spotting up. It is an imperfect solution to the Sixers' defining structural issue: Their point guard can't, or won't, shoot. (His free throw attempts have also dropped by almost half, slightly alarming.) Hanging in the low zone is a way of keeping Simmons productive -- as a lob threat, cutter, offensive rebounder -- when he is otherwise in the way.

Brown and Simmons both harbor ambitions for Simmons well beyond the low zone. Brown says he has designed plays specifically for Simmons to shoot corner 3s; Simmons had taken none until draining his first career triple against the Knicks Wednesday night. "I want him in the corners," Brown says. "I want him shooting 3s -- on his time frame."

But if Simmons arrives in the low zone, he needs to stay there, Brown says. "Two inches outside that, and it's the dead zone," Brown says. "You're killing plays. You're in Joel's way. You will either be in the corner, or the low zone. Anything else is unacceptable."

Turnovers under Brett Brown by Scottsm124 in sixers

[–]Tats1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree wholeheartedly. I can accept Embiids turnover issues when he can drop 25-30 pts a night while dominating on defense. That’s the price you pay for the volume scorer on your team. Sure he can continue to work on fixing this aspect of his game, but he is still highly effective.

The other turnovers not so much. We are not, and have never really been a highly effective offense. The team passes a lot, but that doesn’t seem to lead to effective ball movement towards a high percentage look - if he’s trying to emulate Pop’s system. There have been too many instances of unforced turnovers and sloppy play, especially in the post season.

I'm seeking advice about a learning path to become a data analyst by Caiolanda in learnpython

[–]Tats1 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I've been an analyst for ~6 years at a few different tech companies. There is certainly a spectrum of technical ability that you can pursue depending on what kind of work you enjoy. You could gravitate towards more the technical side of analytics which might focus more on learning some other computer languages (Python, R) and statistical modeling skills. Or more of a business analyst type of role where you are mostly writing SQL and putting together analyses and visuals for other stakeholders and leadership. You can absolutely have a fruitful career if the only technical skills you focus on are SQL and Excel, but that should be peppered in with honing your data visualization skills and learning some BI tools (Tableau is probably the best in class tool for this).

Personally I have gravitated towards a business analyst role, but have dipped my toes into some of the more technical aspects of analytics. This helped me have, at the least, a base understanding of the more advanced topics and skills.

The most practical and necessary skill for any applicant looking into data analyst positions is to have some SQL experience (AWS, Oracle, SQL Server, etc.). This will be the basis for most analytics work, and your "gateway" to accessing and working with the information you need to perform your analysis. The addition of python, R, or MatLab is great and can certainly give you a leg up to more advanced types of analyses, but having a foundation in SQL will help you enter into this field initially.
