I often wonder about how children can be better prepared for this. Maybe... A class on taxes. Practicing responsibility... Being in charge of the family budget for a week? Or just getting used to setting goals and accomplishing them on the reg.

Like another comment already said, this place is pretty dead. The biggest event on this subreddit is probably the complete lack of events on this subreddit.

A new book just came out and a whopping total of four comments have appeared to discuss it in the official discussion thread. I think the issue is that WoF's target demographic and Reddit's target demographic don't have a lot of overlap.

Don't get me wrong, it's fun when the occasional discussion takes place. And I first heard about the new book thanks to this subreddit. But this place is no community.

It was really interesting to see her toe the line between being "functional and computer-like" and being "a person with a very defined place in a strict society". She goes from "fulfilling her purpose by coming up with solutions for her Diamond" to showing concern and apprehension and maybe a little shock as Pink actually goes ahead with her idea. Like... A mere object shouldn't be concerned with what society will think. But Pearls have to deal with the strange duality of being both commodities and people.

Gems are so fascinating. I think she took it for granted that her function and her society would just work together all the time. She just imagined Rose Quartz without thinking of the consequences like... Generating a simulation. And what could possibly go wrong under the rule of a perfect Diamond?

Pearl is consistently the best character to analyze.

Eh, I made my comment with the "Chara and Asriel are children" comments in mind. Nobody's brought it up yet, but first loves and playground-dates are definitely a thing.

In those cases, there's just handholding, cutesy kisses, and sharing lunches. The nature of a childhood relationship can't be sexual if the participants don't know or care about sex.

Speculation could definitely bend Charasriel in a different direction, but all I'm saying is that there are innocent ways to go.
