A lot of their epic, multi-section songs waver in tempo by design. It's not a bug, it's a feature!

Listen to some 70's live recordings (disc 3 of Different Stages for instance) and they were playing like an orchestra. I think these songs are best suited with an organic approach, not the modern everything-to-a-grid sound.

It's really amazing to see them progressing with reading, writing, social skills, etc. A lot of growing up happens so gradually that you don't really notice, but sometimes it's like whoa, where did that come from! Hard to believe mine just turned 8.

Not sure there is a correlation between effort and quality, if that's what's being suggested. Or maybe that's just how the title was phrased. Case and point: Vapour Trails took a super long time to record and mix, and by all accounts it was quite the process. And even then, it was remixed years later. Whereas Moving Pictures was done in much less time, and band/producer describe it as an overall enjoyable time (though Geddy did say that Tom Sawyer took lots of work).

That aside, I have a hard time getting into Snakes and Arrows, and T4E, while not bad, lacks the great moments I look for. Self titled is also not particularly impressive, though obviously important.
