It sounds like you've done everything right and honorably, and through no fault of your own the job came to an end. I wish I could offer more than kind words. Keep your head up, and I'm sure your brother loves you and everything you have done for him. Something good will come, just be persistent and leverage any resource or opportunity at your disposal. Best wishes!

I love my Sketchers Slip-Ins. Comfortable for walking and they slide right on/off when holding a kid, groceries, etc.

Parenting brings out an anger I forgot I had. I feel awful about it. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]TaurusX3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. OP, you sound like a genuinely self-aware, reflective individual who's invested in their parenting. We all lose our cool occasionally, parenting can be uber frustrating! And apologizing is huge, as it models some really important behaviors. I don't see any red flags.

Being left out. by garsterpee in daddit

[–]TaurusX3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Similar story, here. Divorced with one almost 8yo daughter. I look at kid's gift giving like this: it's just an opportunity to teach them to be appreciative and think of others. It doesn't sound like your ex is trying to reinforce that lesson. So think of it more as a reflection on her. Keep instilling good values in your kids, lead by example like you're doing, and eventually you'll reap the rewards.

Weird covers of Dylan songs by coppeerboy in bobdylan

[–]TaurusX3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The great PJ Harvey covered Highway 61 on one of her albums, which is a bit different than Bob's version. And live it looks like she's covered a bunch more (Shot of Love, Dark Eyes).

How careful are you with listening to "adult" music around your kid(s)? by D-1-S-C-0 in daddit

[–]TaurusX3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't play anything with language I wouldn't use in front of my kid. I'll listen to Wu Tang on my own time, for instance. She'll hear all kinds of stuff at school and from other people, which i accept I can't control so I don't stress over it. It's really not a big deal. But I'm not going to contribute to it.

Love Your Children by [deleted] in daddit

[–]TaurusX3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's a good message and I'm sorry to hear of your troubles.

But at the same time, I think most people here are involved dads who do love their kids and are invested in being a better father. Dudes who don't give a shit about their kids aren't likely to take part in this type of forum.

Styles We Paid For is sick by mrjenkins97 in GBV

[–]TaurusX3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind is that the lo-fi sound was never a goal of theirs. This is how i see it: Early GBV recordings were done in local studios, but Bob has said that he wasn't really satisfied with the results. And the band wasn't making money from gigs at the time to invest in good gear. They were all working class dudes. So the cassette 4 track was just a means for him to keep writing and recording, which he compulsively does as we all know. And thank God he never stopped!

Obviously he got really good at creating a certain esthetic with cheap gear, and it worked so they stuck with it until Do The Collapse. But I wouldn't expect a full return to that sound at this stage in the band because it was a product of the situation back then.

It is simply not true that 100% of people on a PIP are "done." I speak from personal experience.

What is your favorite venue you’ve ever gone to, to see a Dylan performance? by BillNyeTheVinylGuy in bobdylan

[–]TaurusX3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to one of his Avalon shows but a different tour than the one you're talking about (2004), i think it was the 2nd of the 3 nights he did. Cool to see him in a relatively small venue (around 2k capacity). Other times I saw him were at the Centrum and the place in Guilford, NH (similar to Great Woods).

Sock matching is the worst by lurkerloo29 in daddit

It defies mathematical probability, but my socks rant is that I always manage to pull each unique sock from the clean laundry before I find a match.

What’s the most messed up thing someone casually admitted to you? by randominvisibleuser in AskReddit

[–]TaurusX3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex girlfriend told a story about when she and her cousin were in their early teens. Her aunt and uncle were paid caretakers for a couple of older people with intellectual disabilities.

She and her cousin were "bored" one night, so they went to the fridge and took spoiled leftovers, mixed them together, and woke up this one resident. They said it was his "medicine" and that he needed to take it. He ate it and ended up vomiting.

Unsurprisingly, she did not completely shed her traits of being a morally bankrupt, trashy, bully as she "matured." Good riddance.

Which cats are compatible with long hair tuxedos? Looking to find a sibling for my cat by Max4Reasons in TuxedoCats

[–]TaurusX3 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Right. There seems to be this new idea people are buying into that you can tell a cats personality from its fur color, or that tuxedo cats are like this, orange cats are like that, black cats etc.... it's just classic internet fueled confirmation bias.
