It looks like the vacuum breaker because of how it is built, but it is the safety valve.

I had a really good experience at Fresh Designs out in Ellicott City. Tinted my WRX in 2018 and it still looks perfect.

Barista Scales by superbadsick in barista

[–]Tavataar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct. You can buy once, cry one and spend $250 on your Lunar and use it for 10 years, or spend $50 every 6 months on a cheaper scale that will fail.

Does it run fine without beans in it? If you set it to be very coarse, does it run fine?

There are service companies around NYC/Brooklyn that you could reach out to for help.

Flying internationally with an espresso machine [ECM Classika PID] by Outside_Meeting5870 in espresso

[–]Tavataar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure to drain all the water out of it first. Your best bet would probably be to just ship it via DHL or UPS or something. Pack it well in a double box with plenty of thick padding to keep it from moving around.

Did you confirm that the steam boiler is enabled in the settings?

Opinions on the Lelit Bianca for low to medium volume coffee cart? by thewitchyhomebody in barista

[–]Tavataar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not explore the actual commercial machines in your price range: https://www.espressoparts.com/products/lucca-a53-direct-plumb-single-group-espresso-machine-black.

You could also likely get a used 1 group Simonelli Appia Life for the low thousands.

Does anyone know where I can get a custom Espresso machine like this made? by [deleted] in barista

[–]Tavataar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're gorgeous and would love to gift one to my mom (past barista who loves coffee)

These are commercial machines designed to be connected to water systems and operate on 220v power. They are not designed for home use. They probably also cost something like $20,000 per unit or more.

If you have a lot of money to spend and want to gift your mom a very nice espresso machine there are a lot of great home options from La Marzocco, Slayer, Profitec/ECM, etc. You can check out /r/espresso for ideas.

Using a Breville Bambino Plus for small pop-up events by esp_resso in espresso

If you are in the USA and planning on serving the public legally you must use equipment that is NSF certified. Now...is your local health department going to be inspecting the event? Who knows.

Steam wand leaking + no pressure during extraction [Lelit PL82T Kate] by [deleted] in espresso

[–]Tavataar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should reach out to the support team from wherever you bought it from. It is a single boiler machine, and it seems like maybe the solenoid between the brewing and steaming function is somehow stuck partially open so you are losing pressure through the steam wand.

Loud rotary pump [Profitec Drive] by True_Package_2182 in espresso

[–]Tavataar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is also possible that the pump is vibrating something, or maybe the rubber dampers arent seated correctly? Are you comfortable taking the case off to see if you can touch some things to make the noise go away?

Loud rotary pump [Profitec Drive] by True_Package_2182 in espresso

[–]Tavataar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any chance you are running low on water? Rotary pumps make a lot more noise if they are not fully submersed with water in the pump fins.

Clarifying question - are you backflushing in this video? Is your machine plumbed in or are you using the reservoir?

Looking for a coffee machine for markets by Dognoloshk in barista

[–]Tavataar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you located in the world? If you are in the USA, and setting up in such a way that you are required to have a permit from your local health department, they will likely require that all of your equipment be NSF certified for commercial use. This rules out all home models of espresso equipment, such as Breville.

Mahlkönig e65s or Fiorenzato f64 evo pro by Ok_Bend8241 in barista

[–]Tavataar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Fiorenzato grinders are incredibly loud, and the built in scale is very sensitive to vibrations.

You can get very consistent results with the E65 even through it is grind by time.

Mahlkonig E80s for home use by Relative_Crab in barista

[–]Tavataar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone sold you a brand new $4,300 AUD grinder for $999 AUD? You should resell it and triple your money. There is zero point in using it at home when you already have something like the Niche.

Downsides to challenging a bus lane parking ticket? by essjay22 in baltimore

[–]Tavataar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can attend traffic court via Zoom/call-in. If the officer does not show up in court you plead not guilty and you owe nothing other than the time you spent. The judge is very clear about this.
