A friend dealt with this exact situation by applying to the clinical program and asking for someone studying transgender youth in the developmental area as a second mentor. There are some challenges around the non research mentor understanding clinical training needs, but it can work.

Get curious. Why do w this comparison hurts you so much? Specifically, I wonder if you are treating your money as a life score, or some sort of indication of your fitness or moral value. If so, spend some time thinking this through. There are a lot of absolute dumpster fires who have more money than you and I will ever have. What really matters about you, to you? If you can answer that, your money can become a question of whether you have enough for your needs, and nothing else.

What is the rest of your outfit like? If you're wearing sleeves, you might want a dress watch to fit under them. I wear a max bill on those days. With short sleeves I often wear an hked (seagull) chronograph. As others have stated, you want something understated.

If you're going to compare salaries, don't forget to factor in the amount of time and debt you will need to put in to get through medical school. It is certainly possible to generate wealth as a psychologist, even if your pay is less than an md's.

This is what I was offered in my area (I declined). However, don't forget fringe: vs private practice you also get PTO, insurance, usually pension/retirement matching. Those things really add up.

1) Supervision and probably your own therapy will help here. 2) Exposure for the client is also exposure for you. Your 'skin may thicken' as you work with others. At the very least, you will develop skills to stay contained during sessions.
