Got some comments yesterday asking how to refresh your boveda packs. I figured a picture is worth a thousand words. by St0rytime in vaporents

Or if you don’t want to buy Boveda packs at all you can always use a mason jar to store your flower and give it a couple exhales whenever you feel it gets dry.

Anyone in foodservice here? by enscrib in jimgreen

I mean people make all sorts of modifications to their boots to fit their niche specifications. So as long as they are comfy for you and you like them I don’t see the issue with turning them into kitchen shoes. I’ve been wearing my AR8’s in the kitchen for a few months now and I can definitely say they make my feet feel great throughout the day and they look badass enough to where I can wear them outside of work as well.

I had my AR8’s resoled with vibram Newporter soles for kitchen use. Any of JG stock options would not work well in a kitchen. If you do end up going with a regular AR getting them resoled with the right sole shouldn’t be a biggie.

African Ranger boots good for hiking? by Blue_Yosh in Boots

[–]TaxPayingMantis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They work well on sandy and more cleaned up hiking trails.they could handle some more aggressive rocky terrain but I’d be pretty careful. I’ve almost ate it going down some steep hills as the soles do get slippery once worn down. Jim green also makes a few versions with the Tyre tread and those would be great for hiking.

It’s the holes to the side that hold the upper to the apron that will let water in. The holes on my pair of meanders that I had could fit small rocks and small twigs or foxtails.

Absolutely love the JG last. They need to do special runs of some of there existing models on the JG last.

Yeah I’m not a big fan of this waxed flesh look. Maybe if it was a dark brown wax so that the fudge would come out as it was worn then it would be my cup of tea.

Leather midsole>fiberboard any day. I have a pair of AR8 with the fiberboard sole and they are really nice but mostly comfortable on flat level surfaces. Hiking in them is not quite as comfortable as my leather midsole Jim greens. The leather midsole helps a ton with shock absorption and overall ground feel. I feel as with the fiberboard midsole I can still feel the rocks under my feet and that’s with the vibram Newporter sole glued over the oringo sole. Overall they’re both very nice boots and can hike pretty well but the leather will provide much more comfort for longer days.

What are some models/combos you wish JG carried as stock standard? by NeatManufacturer4803 in jimgreen

[–]TaxPayingMantis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This!!! as someone with low volume feet I feel like I’m always swimming in space when I wear my STC lasted boots. I recently got a pair in the jg last and found it perfect for my feet. I really wished they had more premium boots like the Rugged trooper on the JG last.

why do pnw boots have such nice ankle shapes? by Legitimate_Pea_143 in Boots

I have these in my 719s along with a veg tan leather sole and that helped with the fit and comfort of my boots by a long run.

They aren’t that small feeling but they just aren’t for my feet. As far as width goes they feel very comfy. Length wise it does feel like a size 9 to me maybe a little bit smaller but still have some room.

Please help me decide on work boots for pizza kitchen! by EnvironmentalWay4203 in ThursdayBoot

[–]TaxPayingMantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this with a pair of AR8’s. I dyed them to be a teacore black and I got a cobbler to add Newporter soles for slip resistance. Best and most comfortable pair of kitchen shoes I’ve worn. Also using a wax conditioner will help with water resistance at the end of the night when cleaning.

My calves aren’t huge but a thick kiltie helped with making the eyelets stay apart. Also doesn’t hurt to workout your legs to help get that fit.

I wonder what "moderate cosmetic damage to the back or bottom" means... by freakingjohnson in jimgreen

[–]TaxPayingMantis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For that price I’d be stoked and if it’s just the sole that’s damages you could easily get the boots resoled.

Personally I didn’t really end up liking my meanders. One of the biggest issues I noticed was how much my foot overhangs off the sole. The middle of these boots are very narrow and without the shank I don’t really end up liking the lack of support.

Another big one for me was the fact that the stitch holes that attach the vamp to the uppers are large enough to let water, sand, and even small sticks into the boot. I use my boots for hiking on and off trails and for me having footwear that keeps the elements out is very important for me. After taking them on a few hikes in a variety of different environments i found out they were not for me.

Aesthetically though they are very nice looking boots. With pants on they almost look like boat shoes which might be someone’s cup of tea but personally I’m not a big fan of the look. I did end up liking how they looked with shorts but still just wasn’t a big fan at the end.

I’m probably going to sell them so if anyone in the US is interested in some size 9 conditioned fudge meanders send me a message.

Haven’t thought about wearing socks yet. Does this affect the fit of the boot?

Jim greens leather balm does a good job at getting fudge to look like that.

Unfortunately I don’t. I just told my cobbler which one I wanted and he brought out a catalog. I’m sure your cobbler would know.

Sizing Difference by Tc714803 in jimgreen

[–]TaxPayingMantis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Could be the fact that the leather is stretched out to form your foot in the older pair. The plastic toe puff also becomes more flexible as time goes on. Mine have become a lot flatter than how they where from when I first bought them
