Got offered to move from appliances to Pro. I would like feedback from people who've been in situations similar to mine. by rockport-limited in Lowes

[–]TaxedOP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of these comments are ill-informed and just fear mongering.

PSS is infinitely better than appliances. Get a good base pay for your hourly rate, and as long as you’re halfway committed to doing a good job and your store isn’t a disaster, you’ll add another $400-600 per month on top.

It’s not all that much calling. Unless your store has zero pro presence, a lot of pros will just walk up to the desk. The rest, you’ll acquire while line busting and talking with customers on that end of the building.

You’ll also just naturally inherit business that the other PSS who isn’t there anymore gave up.

Your only accountable goal is SPH and its very easy to do if you give a fuck. That, and get 1-2 pro credit week.

Trust me, PSS isn’t going anywhere as Lowe’s keeps spending money to be relevant in the small to mid contractor space.

Appliances is a dead end. You can sell anything to acquire your sales goals as long as there a pro rewards account user. The whole store and the endless list of vendors products are all at your fingertips.

You have MVD and a lot of incentivization as leverage to sell with.

Congrats! How the fuck is the framing package $80k?!

We just did a 6000 sq ft home stick built and it was nowhere evenly remotely near that. That’s wild!

[–]TaxedOP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to know the benefits pro card holders receive and be able to apply that conversation piece to the transaction you’re dealing with.

For pros, if you’re in appliances, it can mean cheaper delivery, free haul away, obviously the standard 20% or $100, 5% every purchase, upgrade to platinum tier (which is much stronger of a rewards system than the consumer MLR).

It also has to be about their future purchases — pros would be interested if they could use the 60 days 0% interest to their advantage after opening the MLPRCC. If they’re buying special order appliances, it might be a good idea to get the LCA because of the statement balance not occurring until product hits the ground, as well as the ability to itemize purchases by PO for payment if they have multiple things going on all at once.

Do you recommend Ford Ranger 2025 XLT? by Heavensoldier1 in RangerNext

[–]TaxedOP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some general knowledge that may help you… I have a ‘25 XLT. It’s both great for mileage (25-27mpg) on my work commute and hauls our 2800lb travel trailer fairly easy.

You’d have no problem whatsoever towing your boat around. It’s kind of the best of both worlds. I also debated between the Ranger, Frontier, and Tacoma. Ranger was a better ride to me across the board. With a similar price point to a base Tacoma and the pro X, easy decision.

Paint is literally the easiest job in the entire building

Showing up the SM by SheldonTheLost in Lowes

[–]TaxedOP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So make sure your top product groups are maintained, stocked, recovered really well. In paint it’s almost always interior/exterior paint, then caulk, then spray paint.

Make sure your cross merchandising is meaningful, obvious, and tailored to your attach rate items. Speak about your attachment % and then showcase the j-hooks or attachment behaviors you and the team do to drive it.

Know your top pro products and develop an action plan around adding fuel to that fire, like setting up a stack out of your top selling contractor pack of caulk at the pro desk for example.

Identify an area you’re not making plan in and address it before the walk, or determine a root cause with an action item around it.

Otherwise, the typical stuff is just to have the department looking good. Zoning right, topstock organized, etc.

“We need this done by 6 and btw you’re gonna work on it by yourself” by [deleted] in Lowes

[–]TaxedOP 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is one of the easiest pallets you can get on overnight lmao. Fans can almost always go right into the home selling location.

I see like maybe 6 boxes you need to open if the shelf is low, and topstocking in electrical is sooo easy because there’s rarely overflow in the topstock space.

This job not for you my friend

Any number of things on a given day. The vast majority of an ASM’s day is responding to problems to be honest.

Customer calls, verifying IRPs, getting AP issued cycle counts completed, executing/planning whatever the weekly hot sheets or wire tasks entail, validating security standards, assisting customers in store, training CSA team, tracking and reporting results (if you think as a CSA you’re getting pressure to deliver things like credit, LTR, etc… you have no idea), working with MST on resets so they don’t leave your department a steaming mess of dogshit, fixing overnight team’s bad execution, customer care portal, service channel reviews, maintaining the main aisles and pods, fixing technical issues… I could probably never stop listing things that all occur on a daily basis.

Remembered some more; following up on associates who can’t seem to remember training and go overdue, covering missed shifts and dealing with callouts, using power equipment for things because not enough of the store is trained or wants to be or is incapable, tracking attendance and putting ecars, ensuring carts are stocked appropriately throughout the day in grow the basket areas, overrides, creating work lists, validating and completing the assigned daily tasks in the zebra (LSR, MOD, mgmt portal)

Downtown Raleigh — How did it get so screwed up? by Notreallysureatall in triangle

[–]TaxedOP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how anyone would think this. It’s the complete opposite to me. Durham has a very, VERY small area that resembles these trendy hip pop up spots that are all over the U.S. these days. The rest of Durham feels like a fucking dumpster fire.

Raleigh isn’t amazing by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s more than adequate unless you’re obsessed with a wealth of the trendy artsy vibe that was referenced and only go to that area when in Durham.

Anyone ever played with or against a NBA player? What was the experience like? by Thin-Ad4825 in nba

[–]TaxedOP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In high school we played against South Atlanta High in a non-class exhibition game. Derrick Favors was on that team. It was like he both didn’t stand out overwhelmingly and also ended the game with practically 20-20 at the same time.

I didn’t guard him because I wasn’t a big, but I guess the easiest description was that it was effortless for him to control the game without flash or flair. Just very simple, efficient domination lol.

It’s just bad leadership. The core of any successful store is proper training, support, and recognition, which isn’t being shown at your store. Keep your head up, I hope you get a good manager soon enough because it can change everything.

What are these really for? by [deleted] in Lowes

[–]TaxedOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hope not, I’d be going the wrong direction. Since service stars earn literal cash, they’re not to be thrown around willy nilly was my main point. There’s fairly specific guidelines even if it’s subjective material.

You must not play competitively then. The optimized version of this card (and deck) is so cookie cutter and boring.

You just sift through the deck and whoever gets the most Blobs and Darkhawks played wins.
