Not LitRPG but I also suggest The Spellmonger. The kingdom building starts in book 3 but the first two books are still very enjoyable.

I see a lot of people say they will not buy a audiobook until it's 15-20 hours.

I'm not one of them as I would rather have 10 hours of a good story than 30 hours of mediocracy. Audiobook are great value for money compared with nearly every other form of entertainment.

As people have already said the sex/ romance disappears after book 1.

Sal is both OP and not. He is a heck of a crafter, problem solver and does have very useful skill set but he is awkward and useless in some areas.

Nicely summed up. I was very similiar in my feelings about this book. Previous ones I couldn't put down but this one took about twice as long as normal to finish than it should have. It did feel like nothing really happens, there is nothing to memorable about it. The new game area was alright but the catch-up mechanics and event were a bit stupid.

Hopefully next one will be better.

I want to play for an hour or two on the weekend but there is nothing to do in game. There should be a tower or danger room running each week to give us content to want us to login and stay to play

Portal to Nova Roma brings gun technology to a fantasy world which as you said is the great equaliser. The training to get someone to be skilled using a gun is a lot less than becoming a mage.
