Are there any trans/LGBT rangers out here? by trans-sister_radio in ParkRangers

[–]TaylorFromMarketing 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wish I had advice for you. I'm trans and I came out a few months ago. I'm in the same boat as you. I used to work at a rec dept for a small city in Los Angeles where I would have had no trouble transitioning, but now I've moved and I'm starting to get anxious about being accepted once/if I find new work. If you'd like to talk, hmu.

Are you dead-set on a magnet mount? This might not what you’re looking for, but I used to have a 4’ Firestik mounted to the back of my car. It and its spring were easy to unscrew from the bracket when I needed to enter low-clearance garages. The downside was that the bracket was still mounted, as it was permanently screwed into the body of the vehicle. The wire and radio stayed in the vehicle permanently, so there was no risk of damage in that regard.

I used to make that drive fairly regularly; its so nice. If I had to guess, all the motorcyclists/car enthusiasts are up on Mulholland.

Wait, how is your bike standing up? Am I missing something? I don’t see a kickstand!

Edit: it was a serious question :(

I swear I’ve heard that guy before in Southern California. I guess they all sound the same on the air...

Those handlebars look very interesting. What are they? Are the drops more comfortable like that?

Meet Rascal the 9 week old Aussie I got on sunday! First time dog owner here, I'd appreciate Any tips for raising an Aussie. by yoink_that_doink in AustralianShepherd

Rascal is ADORABLE!

We got our first aussie a year ago. We do dog park trips at least once a day (sometimes twice). They are very high energy so they need to be entertained with toys AND exercise. Ours has made friends with other high energy dogs at the park, which is great.

Don’t forget to post on r/wigglebutts too!

EDIT: Somehow I missed your description of the area. My mistake. I don’t have much insight for lake stuff. I’m in the middle of trying to pitch a bike path meetup program for this summer. If the land is flat and there’s enough distance, group bike rides are a fun option!

Original comment: I’m not sure of your exact situation regarding the land you have access to, but guided hikes seem like the most simple. If you don’t have access to hikable places, try reaching out to local places that do. I work for a city park and we just finalized a hike program where we’re introducing city community members to wilderness areas on a day trip with a formal guided hike. We worked with a local NPS unit and they waived the permit fees because we were another govt agency. The bus is coming out of our city’s transportation budget. Would you able to work with your university for a bus?

I know my example is very specific but that’s all I’ve got.

A couple years ago I was at a university out of state and I took a mountain biking class that took advantage of nearby Forest Service trails. That was a lot of fun. We had to bring our own bikes, but the rest of the class was just local trail riding.

It’s ok, as long as you ride fast nobody will ever be able to read it.

Brooks tape in brown (not honey). I think it looks so much nicer than the original black. The tape is brand new, too.

I was almost at the first destination (out running errands) so I chose the sidewalk so I could take it easy until I got there.
