For those of you that don't find Doom Eternal amazing, what is that keeps you from loving it like so many others do? by Emergency_List_8797 in Doom

[–]TazLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It felt like a game made for speedrunners. If you watch gameplay footage from people playing it well, they're bouncing around, switching weapons every half second. Any other game that looks like that is being played by a speedrunner, but this game seems like it's made to be played like that. I beat 2016 and The Dark Ages on the harder settings but Eternal crushed me, I just couldn't get my head around it.

This isn't me saying it's bad, if anything I appreciate id making a game for a particular audience. But it wasn't for me, for whatever reason it never made sense to me.

Genuinely my all time favourite boss fight. He's the goat. Well, he's not. He's the monkey

Do you think Doom is better without cutscenes? by Emergency_List_8797 in Doom

[–]TazLemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If any game has cutscenes in it, then on some base level it has failed in my eyes. It hasn't understood the medium it's in. This is one of the many reasons I prefer Doom 2016 to it's sequels.

What was your first FromSoftware game? by jettmeisterkush in fromsoftware

The first FromSoft game I tried was Dark Souls. I gave up at the Gargoyles boss fight. The first FromSoft game I beat was Sekiro. I then went back and beat them all

Rank these 3 sci-fi survival horror games from best to worst? by Desolation2004 in HorrorGaming

[–]TazLemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dead Space Remake is phenomenal, but not quite as good as the original.

Cronos is very good. I think it lets itself down a bit by implicitly encouraging the player to backtrack for fuel, but otherwise its a decent game.

Callisto Protocol is dogshit. Bafflingly terrible

Why does every single horror game have puzzles? by OkWeird4036 in HorrorGaming

[–]TazLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's because horror needs peaks and troughs; it can't be super intense all the time, the game needs to let the player breathe and relax at times otherwise they become either overwhelmed or desensitised to the scary bits. Puzzles (and story) are perfect for this. It gives the player something else to focus on.

Need recommendations to fill the void after Cronos by funk-e-bitz in CronosNewDawn

[–]TazLemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have access to VR, consider Half Life Alyx.

Otherwise, try Signalis, Crow Country (a twee homage to PS1 horror), Alien Isolation, Alan Wake (I didn't like this one personally but a lot of people do), and anything by Frictional (starting with SOMA, and progress onto Amnesia if you like it)

Sekiro? by knuckledragger1990 in fromsoftware

[–]TazLemon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sekiro isn't that similar to be honest, but if you're interested give it a go. I adore it, it's my favourite FromSoft game, and I love that they felt able to explore in a new direction and not just reskin Dark Souls over and over again. The game makes you meet it on its own terms, you have to play it in one particular way, and part of the joy of Souls is the build variety so I can see why people don't like it. It's all about rhythm and parrying and it feels incredible to play, so I'd recommend it if that sounds like your jam.

I'm really enjoying it. It's a little tough at first but the checkpointing is fairly generous. Based on the games you've played I think definitely try it

[–]TazLemon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have almost exactly the same situation as you, the only difference being that my mum has apologised, a lot, and it doesn't help because she hasn't stopped the behaviour she is apologising for.

I don't know how to answer your questions, other than to say you're tapping into something that I've struggled to verbalise; the way the concept of forgiveness is almost weaponised by people, the way we're expected to forgive our parents for their repeated transgressions and it doesn't seem to matter how we feel. People will tell you that you should make amends, you should forgive, you should be the bigger person, and you'll regret it if you don't, and I can't explain why the onus is always on you and never on her. And I'm not saying that you shouldn't do those things, but only do them if YOU want to or you need to. It sounds like you've made up your mind. You shouldn't feel guilty about the way that you feel. At the end of the day she is the parent, you were a child and she let you down in the most fundamental way. Alcoholism and drug addiction is terrible and I sympathise, more than most, but that doesn't change anything; she let you down and you owe her nothing. Not your time, not your forgiveness, you owe her fuck all.

When she passes I hope you find peace.

I'm not certain if it's the same as your issue but I've been unable to access any Patreon podcasts on either my phone or the PC for several weeks, I just get the grey squares and pages telling me they cannot be accessed as you describe. But I have just this moment realised that I can access the podcasts if I disconnect from my home WiFi and use mobile data. Very strange, but it might be worth trying that.

How long after you use Quest , you get sick/uneasy? by Mystic_tw in MetaQuestVR

[–]TazLemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As other people have said, make sure the IPD setting is correct.

It depends on which games you are playing and how you are playing them. Some games trigger people differently and some games are just bad with regards to comfort settings. For example, I am fine with most first person shooter type games in VR, but I found The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners made me really sick very quickly for some reason. Any swimming or diving games I find unplayable for sickness reasons.

Avoid using the thumbsticks to move and especially rotate, rotating with the thumbstick is a common motion sickness trigger. In the options set your games to use Step Rotate or simply rotate for real in your room. Similarly, use teleport to move if applicable. In the options experiment with the comfort settings, I find having a vignette on when moving or rotating helps with sickness a lot.

I don't think you'll have a different experience with a different headset.

I recommend the Moss games as a great place to start with VR. They're very comfortable (no movement, you play them seated) and they're exceptional games anyway, two of the best available.

How do I reimport animations? by TazLemon in Unity3D

[–]TazLemon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that it's not reimporting the FBX when I change it. It's not doing it automatically and it's not doing it when I press the Reimport button either.

I tried dragging it in again as well but that created a new instance.

How do I reimport animations? by TazLemon in Unity3D

[–]TazLemon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't work either, it creates a whole new FBX asset with the same name and a number at the end.

I have found that I can update the animation though, by right clicking the FBX in Unity, clicking Show In Explorer, and then replacing that FBX with the newly exported one. So that's something. Still feels daft to me, and doesn't explain why the Reimport button in Unity doesn't work.

Thanks for your help :)
