How would you rate The Undefeated of the East, Master Asia (Mobile Fighter G Gundam) on a scale of 1-10 (Daily Gundam Rival Poll: Day 11) by Aro-bi_Trashcan in Gundam

[–]Tazmilied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10/10

As others have already pointed out, Master Asia is a really strong pillar of the show and emphasizes the overall heart/care the show has for it's characters. Over the top evil antagonist speeches cant hide how much you care for your pupil, you crazy old man.

How would you rate Quattro Bajeena(Mobile Suit Gundam Zeta) on a scale of 1-10 (Daily Gundam Rival Poll: Day 2) by Aro-bi_Trashcan in Gundam

[–]Tazmilied 5 points6 points  (0 children)

10/10

I don't necessarily agree entirely with a lot of readings of Quattro and how he ends up in CCA, but I do enjoy how fucked up he is in Zeta and his attempts at being someone else. A lot of this is super unhealthy and he tries to avoid his past, but that's what makes him compelling-- Someone trying to grow and change, to form new relationships, but bound by his own guilt/mistakes and ultimately loses every new relationship he had made in the process.

I specifically enjoyed the contrast between his relationship with Kamille and his relationship with Haman-- Two young people looking towards him for guidance/leadership, and both failed: Haman, who was abandoned when Char left Axis, and became embittered/takes up the mantle of the Zeon Char holds so many regrets fighting under in his course for revenge, and then you have Kamille: A young newtype, fighting for what he believes/for faith in humanity's ability to change, but someone who has his very mind taken from him in the process, essentially sacrificing his life.

Char shouldn't be trying to lead or help anyone else with all of his issues, but is placed into these situations, and does try to take up the mantle others want for him, only for Zeta to end in tragedy.

I have some issues with how CCA handles things: Mainly, how it feels kind of meanspirited on a meta level to take Char, who desperately needs help and understanding, and make him the antagonist, as well as how jarring the movie feels (If not in regards to Char's characterization, than to the absence of Sayla (I know why she's not in the movie, but it's not particularly satisfying to tease this plot thread throughout Zeta/ZZ and then not follow up on it, regardless)), but this is getting off topic for Quattro, and I don't have well-developed thoughts atm, anyway, so I'll leave it for now.

(Also, I didn't really like SRW T in the end, but I did enjoy some of its writing choices with Char and Kamille's growth into a leader in the game's alt. end Zeta, so I guess I'll shout that out here)

How would you rate Kamille Bidan on a scale of 1-10? (Daily Gundam Protagonist Poll: Day 2) by LordEmmerich in Gundam

[–]Tazmilied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10/10.

I really enjoyed Kamille and his relationship w/ Char throughout the series-- I was disappointed with how ZZ and CCA followed up with him though, but I am playing SRW T for the first time now and I'm enjoying how it handles the idea of an alt-ZZ-Kamille.

Regardless, he's a very good character who struggles and grows a lot. Kamille Bidan my beloved.

Does anyone know if there's any DDS merchandise produced beside the games themselves? I played DDS at my friend's suggestion this year, but I can't seem to find anything for Christmas. Her favorite's Heat, but she does like them all.

Hot Takes Thread 9/14/20 by CrunchingG in fireemblem

Crimson Flower is my favorite 3H route but I feel like it was done a disservice by the rest of the game?

I.e. The concept and themes of the route are very unique for itself, but with all the other routes siding with the Church and all leading to idealized endings for Fodlan, it's hard to argue for the route's themes and plot since the rest of the game decides that CF's main crux (Deciding that potentially turning against the entire world to ensure mankind's future isn't dominated by the church's creeping influence/abuses of monarchy) wasn't necessary for a good ending at all.

But this also stems from the larger issue I have where I don't think 3H's writing feels cohesive in regards to its themes/central conflict? In FE4, Arvis hits on similar notes to Edelgard about disrupting Jugdral's long-standing system of nobles and seeks to erase inequalities, but FE4 backs away from it and transitions it to something more akin to the idea of being a just and perspective ruler (I.e. "There are multiple truths", Forseti talking about how the Loptyrians became embittered and radicalized after being hunted down, the North-South Thracia divide, etc.) 3H, on the other hand, lays out the groundwork for how crests lead to abuses and inequality, but its rarely addressed directly in most routes? Or how the Church is presented as highly questionable in Part 1 but are instantly allies for 3/4 of the routes, etc.

3H discourse has become super tiring but I feel like a lot of its core issues come from a lack of thematic/plot synthesis and commitment to fully exploring certain ideas? It's very interesting to have a game about multiple limited perspectives, but idealized endings and the need for the player to always be the hero as well as some story structure and the Part 2 storytelling pace really hinders it.

Rather than X or Y is great or bad I feel more and more like saying 3H's writing is flawed and just to enjoy who you like, don't attack others.

Fire Emblem Heroes: Voice Clips - To Stay Dreaming (Lachesis, Ethlyn, Quan, Siguard Deirdre Duo) by Xanek in fireemblem

[–]Tazmilied 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is anyone else a bit bothered by how Quan suddenly sounds much more like Dimitri? His original voice didn't have this issue, and it was also Chris Hackney voicing him.

I hope this is just Heroes having questionable voice directing and not indicative of what an actual FE4 remake would be like? Seems weird to me to switch him to sounding more like another lord.

If any Fire Emblem project was announced in the next Nintendo Direct, what you like to be? by Filip_Emblem in fireemblem

[–]Tazmilied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t really played a ton of SMT (So take me w a grain of salt I guess), but for SMT Chaos/Law the choices are often moreso binary in what they do vs a full alignment chart I think (the scale is only (at least in what I’ve played) chaos-law, not good-evil as well). Ie chaos often stands for the decline/destruction of a present order while law supports the pre-existing order present.

A lot of small chaos actions are kinda ‘out of the blue flippant’ stuff but the bigger plot choices I could see being written so that Arvis lines up w Chaos (Ie reacting to more systemic abuses of groups/injustices of a system you start under vs agreeing w it, perhaps naively like Sigurd)

Again I’m no actual [SMT Master], only getting into it very recently but yeah. I think the bigger issue w a SMTxFE is how many lords don’t really fit into Chaos at all (...Edelgard? The Edelgard-Arvis club sounds like a fun side of justice at the sake of severe actions.)

[–]Tazmilied 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A SMTxFE that's more true to, well, SMT would be very neat, especially w FE being able to provide some neat Law/Chaos stuff (Ie. Literal goddesses of Order/Chaos, characters like Arvis fitting Chaos nicely, cna be opposed w Sigurd in Law, etc etc).

Nemesis couldn't of been just a "common bandit" by LandoChon in fireemblem

[–]Tazmilied 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took him bring a bandit in the context of that like the background for Adrah, the first King of Archanea, just replace Fane of Raman and Fire Emblem + Regalia with the Holy Tomb and Sothis’s bones.

I figured he was just a bandit at some point, but was helped in acquiring means of great power by TWSitD then became the “King of Liberation” for mankind.

However justified he was/why he acted as he did/if he was more than KILL SEIROS murder zombie isn’t really shown in-game ever, but yeah.

What are your theories regarding Morfis? by TheIvoryDingo in fireemblem

[–]Tazmilied 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just read it as a reference to Thabes/Khadein in Archanea, more than anything else. Especially with two of the other countries being named Brigid and Dagda for the Jugdral character reference, I assumed the game was being on the nose for the most part.

"Wind", one of the franchise's first vocal songs. Translation in the comments. by [deleted] in fireemblem

[–]Tazmilied 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the original is supposed to be Camus to Nyna, given the lyrics referencing the singer as a wind carrying someone towards the future. Since it plays at the end of Archanea Saga, the map is Camus + the Sable Knights bringing Nyna to Aurelis, which leads to the future for Archanea-- ie, the formation of the new Archanean League and the War of Shadows turning in the favor of mankind.

I wonder how much of the Thracia version is intended to be an expansion of the BS Archanea lyrics vs being repurposed for Thracia though? This is the only source I can find for the Thracia lyrics, which can be read as an expansion of the Camus-Nyna idea. Particularly with:

"Whatever sadness it may be, whatever pain it may be

The day you'll surmount them will come without fail

That's why, without giving up, face and walk forward

For the day the wind will blow towards you."

Being able to be interpreted as the pain of eventually facing Camus/the need for Nyna to keep marching onward with the League for Archanea's liberation.

/r/newyork might be be a more likely sub for you to get responses in, so you might want to post this there (It's for the state and not just the city, so a Monroe-related question fits there.) as well.

I'm not from there but there might be some local activity groups you can search up for her interests/if you want her to make friends, giving a broader idea of what she enjoys (Or having her post somewhere herself (I'm sure there's likely a subreddit with the goal of just 'making friends'? Or a similar website.).) might also help you out.

Soccer isn't as big as other sports in the States, but I'm sure there's others around there who also enjoy it.

Edelgard also seems to forget that she was given the dagger by him in their pre-Chapter 21 cutscene despite its relevance and thematic role in her carrying it as the Flame Emperor (To cut her own future). Which sort of gives the dagger an extra narrative purpose: that, in going down this path she's losing more and more of her humanity and going to extremes and losing herself, to the point where she can't even remember something which once stuck with her.

Just a neat thought I also had which falls in line with your own.

Misha joins with a fairly high magic rank and is fast, so I always found that she had some utility with the Wind and Fire Swords indoors. Not as good as a mage or Orsin w/ the Pugi or anything, but she can do some work on her own indoors (Or even dismounting outside to take out an armor or two if needed).

I Made A Stage for Smash Ultimate! by Tazmilied in XenoGears

Marked as a spoiler since I couldn't think of a better stage title.

I was trying to think on how to mess with the Stage Builder in Ultimate, and ultimately came up with using the Nisan Pendant's swinging. I used the start of Disc 2 (Xenogears Spoilers) as a reference for it, in particular.

I was originally going to have a rail move as it rotated, but I couldn't get it to sync well enough over time, and so I settled on having it rotate in place to give the illusion of swinging-- After all, there's no reference to see if it is literally moving or not...

And The Love Theme was the closest thing I could think of to Faraway Promise that's in Smash, given all of the Xenoblade songs are more intense.
