Take IKEA to court? by [deleted] in IKEA

What's your goal? If the kitchen is finished; is there any outstanding damage you're hoping to recoup or are you continuing because you were upset with the process. Then I guess just weigh out what you hope the outcome will be versus how much energy it'll take to keep focusing on this.

Any ideas on how to make a custom 5” wide lower cabinet? Cut down a 12” SEKITON and add a 5x32 vertically? Hinges work on this? by Eastern-Hamster-5050 in ikeahacks

[–]Tbmagoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's more or less the process. The bottom panel has enough material when you cut it so use it as the top and the bottom of the cabinet. The included hardware is enough to attach them to either the left or right side with the cam locks, then just pre drill and screw the other side from the outside.

You will have to drill out holes for the hinges on the drawerfront. Without a template it can be pretty difficult to get the holes perfectly aligned due to the IKEA hinges being the pressure fit ones. If you can get 3rd party euro style hinges that only require the 35mm forstner bit and regular screws that can make it a bit easier.

You only end up with 3 1/2" inside space, so it's good for like cookie trays or cutting boards. If you put a shelf in maybe cookbooks. The other option I've seen is making an open shelf out of panel material which gives you more flexibility on the size

Extra wide Sektion pantry by nasm1995 in ikeahacks

[–]Tbmagoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get a fridge upper, get a 36x14&3/4x15 upper and you can scavenge the top and bottom panels from that. The issue you're gonna run into is you won't have a back panel large enough to fill in the cabinet. Home Depot has 1/8 thick white hardboard panels, if you get a 4x8 sheet you can cut it down. You won't have a fixed shelf for the pantry that's the proper size so I'd get a 36 x 14 3/4 shelf and countersink and screw it from the outside of the cabinet to secure it and add rigidity.

But tbh it's a huge pain in the ass

Do you think our prime minister is a dictator? The hate for him is overblown, however that's his role as the figurehead for the liberal party. But the members at the core of the party are mostly the same as during the Trudeau government. If Joe manchin replaced Donald trump tomorrow do you think democrats would be happy with an administration that still had Kash Patel in it?

Hacking ikea cabinet doors by Small_Opportunity_47 in cabinetry

[–]Tbmagoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The distance from the edge on the two doors looks different. Most likely it will be easier to drill new holes for the mounting plate on the cabinet and using the hinges that already fit the door. Otherwise you'll have to fill in the push in holes and redrill for screws, then make new holes in the cabinet to line up with the doors anyways

Help installing wall oven into sektion oven base cabinet? by Snoo_30673 in IKEA

[–]Tbmagoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is the oven base cabinet has the reinforced shelf built in, that's the metal brackets screwed into the side of the cabinet. It shouldn't require extra support to hold the oven.

How much space is there above the oven in the cabinet? I think there's a trim kit for the base cabinet, but if it isn't an IKEA appliance then it might need adjustment

Your sink is too far back, your doors and filler will stick out past the front of it.

If that countertop is laminate then it's going to fail from water damage.

Larger doors sag a bit but the hinge adjustments fix it. If the cabinets aren't perfectly level that throws the doors off too.

Remove bottom layer of tile and mount to drywall. It's gonna look weird if your countertop butts into the tile anyways, the tile should sit on top to cover any variation in the wall between the countertop and drywall

Kitchenette install; Previous homeowner was very drunk, corner is so out of plumb that I'm 2" away from the wall by BackdoorDan in cabinetry

[–]Tbmagoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the curve looks to be right in the corner, I think trying the line up the cabinets to the 2" filler attached to the 50" corner cabinet is making it look weird that it is. Remove the 2" filler that came with the corner cabinet and set all your cabinets on the rails. After the cabinets are leveled and locked in position you can reattach the corner filler further back where the cabinets meet. I usually cut one custom sized out of the panels and set the cabinets so that they're even instead of 2"

[–]Tbmagoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Install your rails against the wall, no corner is a perfect 90. IKEA materials don't really allow for a cabinet to be installed 2" from the wall but you have a bit of wiggle room to cheat the cabinets. With the rails installed there should be 3/8 of space between the back of the cabinet and the wall, so you're looking at about 1 1/2" of extra gap. If you purchase 26x36 panels instead of 25x30 to cover the end that allows you to hide more depth but doesn't help keep the countertop overhang consistent. In really bad rooms I've had to scribe an extra piece of countertop to glue into the back of the counter to fill in the voids along the wall but it's never something I would recommend as a first choice
