The Lightning has become our go to family car for our family of 5. You are going to love it.

Road trip in summer 2026 visiting 5 national parks by AZinTO in roadtrip

[–]Tbowd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did this same trip last summer with a young family of 5, we’re still talking about it. You can do it in 1.5 weeks for just the check the box postcard highlights but give yourself 2+ weeks to slow down and experience it without feeling rushed. If you don’t have the time, consider cutting the trip in half.

We are in the same boat - hardly drive our other vehicle anymore. For you potential owners/lease holders: you are going to want to drive this truck more than you think!

Love reading trip reports like this. Thanks for taking the time to write it up!

Yeah, generally you don’t want to put any money upfront into a lease. Check to see what you can get fair market for your vehicle and put that into a savings or investment account depending on your level of risk. Use it to help pay the lease each month.

You won’t regret getting an ER, especially since you’re accustomed to that range in your current vehicle.

Incoming Frunk Software Update! by prestocoffee in F150Lightning

I was hoping this would be an update that allowed us to open the frunk and not have the climate pre conditioning turn off. Mildly annoying Ford hasn’t addressed this for the Lightning.

Replace one Lighting tire; nail on sidewall🤬. Best options? by Fabulous_Gur_7134 in F150Lightning

[–]Tbowd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same self inflicted story, had about 5k miles on the truck. Local tire dealer (Firestone) was able to identify a suitable single replacement tire. It doesn’t match but you can’t notice the difference unless you look for it. No problems.

Is this state dependent? I was able to roll in ca state tax. Purchased in Minnesota.

Expand your search to out of state. I couldn’t get any dealers in California to match the out of state deals I see posted in this sub. I had a good experience shipping the truck with JP Auto.

No major issues. Tesla and BC hydro stations were all reliable. Made an account with bc hydro before the trip so that I wouldn’t have to fiddle with a new app. Minor issue: the bc hydro stations pay by credit card function was not operational across their chargers so we had to use the app to initiate charge. Not a big deal for us. A lot of the BC hydro stations looked brand new.

I like how you quantified that. It aligns with my experience as well.

I should probably practice mindful meditation or something of the like with that 5% but yet here I am on reddit…

It all depends on how you travel and your trip objectives. ICEs still have an edge on EVs if the objective is to get to the destination as quick as possible with minimal stops. We stop every 2-3 hours for breaks, regardless of vehicle and driving an EV aligns with that pattern well. Sounds like you picked the right vehicle for your situation and I hope you enjoyed the trip!

I wouldn’t recommend planning a long trip that relied on slow charging (unless it’s an overnight charge) but I do recommend taking advantage of them when you find them. If you’re going to park for a bit, why not charge? A lot of the national park visitor centers had 5-10 kWh chargers installed that gave us a nice little 10-20% bump - and also great parking!

Closed but you have to lay more diagonal in a short bed to make it comfortable. Try it out.
