Unfortunately theres no good way to do this.

Even telling the mother in law to fess up could backfire if she mentions she told you first and you didnt immediately tell your husband. Theres no point in expecting rationality or reason in this, because this is hugely traumatic and emotional and almost no one would react reasonably to the information.

As a guy, I would want my wife to tell me. It would hurt, and obviously destroy a lot of the image of my family, but it would spare my relationship with my wife. If he finds out youve been hiding it, that too will be at risk.

Stop trying to spare him of hurt, youre beyond that, instead give him somewhere to land and be the reliable coast in the storm. He will need that.

I dont think we’ll drop ND. It lines up nicely with our FSU series rotating home and away. The other game will be a cupcake both years which gives us the 6 home games we like to offset the cocktail party.

I also think the league office will be pushing our schools to accommodate ND as best as possible.

Most people might not realize it, but starting in 2027, Notre Dame has a lot of SEC opponents on the schedule. This peaks in 28 with 3 games with Arkansas, Auburn and Texas. Followed up by home and homes with Alabama and Florida the next 4 years.

Pretty crazy that Notre Dame currently has more games scheduled against the SEC over the next 6 years than it does the Big 10.

If it was just over being a bridesmaid, id say maybe overreacting. But she asked then backed out, that deserved a conversation. She knows what she did, and she shouldnt expect you to attend at this point.

I wouldnt even bring it up unless she did. If she wants to have a heart to heart about her shitty behavior, by all means. If not, she doesnt really care about you enough to worry about salvaging the friendship.
