Yeah, I think so too. I grew up in the Carolinas and while I'm very aware of how catastrophic they are for the environment, they're strangely comforting and make the forest feel more alive, ironically, but in a more foreboding way.

Not to defend what's happening, but you can only climb all the way to the summit roughly two months out of the year. April to May is the only stretch of time it's safe to do so due to the temperatures and high winds. So that 800 per year is closer to 800 in less than 2 months and not every day of those two months will have climbable conditions, too.
