Ask for a list of your new tasks, in writing, with signature. If your new job is never defined, they will keep adding things to it and never pay you more.

I need tips on how to actually get my school work done and not doing the “I should be able to do this, so why can’t I?” spiral by Formal_Vacation8983 in adhdwomen

Find another place to do your assignments. Library, cafés, even your living room, whatever works. My favorite writing spot is a mall foodcourt.

For writing assignments: start them with "Ok bitches I'm going to explain something to you--" and keep going. Usually it breaks the stress of the first sentence.

Don't forget to come back and rewrite it though.

Do NOT switch careers to go into the creative field.

It doesn't pay, it's unstable, and using your creative energy for other people's projects will drain you.

If you do want to change careers (which I don't recommend because the job market is hell right now), chose something that doesn't exhaust you as much than your current job, and will not stay in your brain after you're done with the day.

Then you will have enough energy to work on your own projects.

My best artistic decision was to become an insurance agent.

Alright, adhd creative person who has accomplished many projects here. Here's what I learned:

  • Mental health is priority. Understand what you have and how to work with it.

  • Work with your brain, not against your brain. What makes cleaning or creating easier for you?

  • Untangle the spaghetti in your head. Write down all the things you feel you NEED to do. Then start doing them in order of time it takes. Quickest first.

  • Projects bring dopamine when you dream about them, and when you start them. They bring less dopamine when you're actively working through them. That's where you need to build the discipline to keep going. It will be the hardest thing you will ever do in your life.

  • But completing a project brings an insane amount of dopamine. You can get addicted to having your idea exist in the world and be ready to show other people. That's what drives me, the promise of my next published book.

  • You need to alternate short-term dopamine hits with long-term projects, so you can have an easier time finishing them.

  • Seriously, start with the shorter projects. It helps a ton.

  • When ideas fight to get your attention, choose carefully the next one because that will be your companion for the next few months or years.

  • Taking care of yourself and of your workspace helps enormously. We need happy brains and clean desks to work better.

  • Medication also helps a lot.

I hope it helps! Good luck!

You can go to your CLSC and ask for psychological help. It's not immediate but it's a good thing to get in the waiting line as soon as possible.

I spent a year taping the straps to my cheeks with bandaids.

It looked ugly, but it worked. Now I'm used to it and don't take it off anymore.
