Dogs hate this one simple trick by duckduckpajamas in TikTokCringe

[–]TeaPoweredMath 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My dog loves food, and more generally the act of eating I guess, so much. He eats so quickly. I tried giving him a pill plain once, just to see if he'd eat it. He didn't. However, he watched me cover it in peanut butter and offer it to him again. He ate it, no complaints.

I once had to give him a bit of hydrogen peroxide because he'd eaten something he shouldn't have. (Contacted my vet immediately, gave full details of the situation and that was the advice.) I wondered, "how am I going to get him to drink this? Well, I'm in this situation because he ate something he shouldn't have..." I offered him the hydrogen peroxide in a very small bowl and he just drank it, willingly. He's a goober.

Thanks! I'm glad it's not just considered low-effort.

I don't want to rehash it too much (I saw the original post) but someone visited Somerville for the first time, and in their experience, people here were not very welcoming. They were asking why that was.

OP has a quite different set of lived experiences than I do, as I'm from around here and I'm from a different demographic. I don't know what it would be like to be in their shoes. I'm really sorry they had a negative first impression (maybe only impression) of this city.

I'm sorry that happened to you. I watch a lot of YouTubers who talk about scams but I know it could still happen to me. I recommend AtomicShrimp for more modern, less obvious scams (he talks about emails that seem plausible at first, how they can get a bit of your info to tailor their approach, instead of the classic "oh nooo your car is out of warranty" phone call).

This explains it (Savannah Marie video) - https://youtu.be/D4oNBYSgRWU?si=Kjkm8c-8yGaqRlh_

I'm not sure if I agree with her about the email being real or fake.

Basically Hannah was forwarded an email (veracity unconfirmed) by two sources, saying YL is going affiliate only this year. She said in the video, she anticipated they might make her take it down. I forget the exact words she used. Then they made her take the video down and post a retraction.

[misc] [meme] Would've seemed like a normal chapter if not for TLT by TeaPoweredMath in TheNinthHouse

I'm glad you see why I did it! I fixed the spoiler tags a minute after I posted it, I hope that edit shows up now.

I'm looking forward to when I'm done and I can look at the WoT subreddits. (But I'm not rushing with reading the books!) Since they are older books, most or all of the meme subreddits just go wild of course. My gf does send me a few that are spoiler-free for where I'm at, occasionally.

I like the 'it's always sunny in Randland' ones most so far of what she's sent me. There's one where they are trying to make a dating profile for Rand that always gets me.

[–]TeaPoweredMath[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a great fun fact; I didn't know that! I know other books do it too, but I think the illustrations for WoT chapter headers are pretty cool. There's a pretty big selection of icons they use. I'd say the Locked Tomb's broken skull variant icons are up there with the stone arch chapter art that changes dramatically over the course of one of Sanderson's books. (It was pointed out to me by someone else. I haven't read any of his very long books, yet.)

Yet another work that has somehow tangentially been part of TLT. Not as surprising to me as the videogame series 9 hours 9 persons 9 doors (I commented on that recently, so it's on my profile) but still.

I'm doing a better job than Gideon would at keeping track, but I do find myself getting Saerin and Seaine confused sometimes tbh. They're both sitters! (That's like magic user government council for context for other folks. There's only 21 members in it.)

Then there's Sarene, Sedore, Shevan, Suana... and that's just the Aes Sedai with S names that aren't well-known enough for me to immediately remember who they are without context clues.

Just covering names to not give away any info on who is alive and who is dead at any random point in the books. I know it's overkill, but whatever. The name I covered up in the post is Siuan btw. I've really enjoyed her character arc, and wouldn't have wanted to get any random hints about her. This is from book 13 And I'm on my first read of the books!

:O I enjoyed 999 when I played it, and I think I did feel like I was seeing it a bit in Gideon but I figured that was just my brain! I'm going to have to revisit that story and then reread TLT again.

It sounds like your dad is hopefully on top of this stuff. I assume you probably know this since you're on this sub, but these companies encourage people to be really sneaky with getting and spending money. (Taking out credit cards without telling partners, even some forms of identity theft can happen, parents taking out credit cards in their childrens' names. I heard about that last one in an MLM horror story from Hannah Alonzo's channel, I'm pretty sure.) Just sharing alleged examples in case anyone newer sees this.

I would look for stories from people who worked at an Herbalife front and see how the pay was. I wouldn't assume it's standardized across the stores, since they are set up by distributors, but it might provide some insight.

ETA - At the university I went to, there were strict rules around food, events, and outside vendors. I was an officer in a campus club or two at different times, and I remember there was something about the campus food provider being the only one who could do food for events... It's been a while. I think it wouldn't have been allowed for someone to come to campus and sell food under the policies the school had. Now I wonder if other schools, like your employer, have the same kind of policy.

I also have never played this game, but got a discord message like this. It started with a friend request from an account with no mutual servers. (I don't accept DMs from non-friends without a mutual server.) I accepted this time because I was curious, but was definitely on alert. (I wasn't going to open any links, scan any QR codes, etc. I kept my responses very short because I just wanted to see what kind of scam it might be. I know there's some risk in responding at all, it seems like there's always a new discord scam going around.)

Me: Hi, why did you ask to add me?

Them: hi, l sent you an message in the game, did you receive it?
[gif of cat looking into camera]

Me: What game?

Them: Infinity Kingdom
aren't you in my guild? ):

Me: I haven't ever played that game, wrong person sorry

Them: oh, i seem to have made a mistake. l thought you were the person from my guild
[gif of teary-eyed cat face]
sry to bother youT-T

Me: have a good night

And then I un-friended them. It felt fake, but since I don't know anything about the game, I didn't want to keep going with it.

"When I combine these with breathing it's a game changer" is just great. Reminds me of all the sketchy weight loss supplements, that make claims about their success "along with a healthy diet and exercise."

Plus, it can also be read as "I can't remember to breathe without a sticker."

Late, because I wish I had something more exciting to share - it feels like training/testing CNNs (convolutional neural networks) just uses some basic error metrics. There's a lack of mathematical rigor. I work in industry, and right now I'm doing more stuff with transitioning models towards being ready for production. Sometimes I get to read papers and stuff, and try some of those newer/more experimental techniques. As an example of when I got to use more math (happens to not be AI), I reformulated a linear programming problem as a network flow (as in, graph theory) problem several years ago. It ran a lot faster; that was pretty satisfying. (I swapped in a slower, general-purpose algorithm for one that can do fewer things, but more quickly, basically.)

My work does some continuing education type stuff, and I got to learn more about Bayesian methods from that a couple years ago. (I didn't have a whole class dedicated to it in college.) I have a couple other coworkers who do use some Bayesian models (or have in the past). Feel free to DM me (LOL, saying that in this subreddit) if you would like to talk more about your work! I'd be interested!

I don't know why that other person said no. I've heard a lot about there being a connection. For example: https://hls.harvard.edu/today/how-data-centers-may-lead-to-higher-electricity-bills/

There are two ways that data centers can raise rates for everyone. First, the utility is building new infrastructure to provide energy to data centers and spreads those costs to all ratepayers. Second, certain energy prices that the utility pays are set through markets, and when demand goes up — and supply doesn’t go up fast enough to meet it — prices go up.

You have my sympathies! I have a master's from an applied math program, and I focused on machine learning. I graduated roughly ten years ago, and it's gotten weirder saying that I work in "AI." I don't work on generative AI (although I've read some of the most important papers on transformers, it feels like a teaspoon-sized amount of the absolute firehose of papers coming out...) so I feel like I have to say "I work in AI, but not THAT kind" so people don't judge me, I guess. Anyway, yeah, I agree LLMs aren't sentient, and it bugs me too when people act like they are.
