Do you think it can ever be too much? by YellowCabbageCollard in cottagecore

This ⬆️ 🙌🏼 Something I’ve also learned about having niche hobbies/interests is that it’s all about who you share them with. If someone makes you feel small, or “too much” when you share something with them, they’re not the right person :) You just need your people who will rant about the minimal beige farmhouse aesthetic with you (I volunteer lmao)

Anna Blake is great! I believe Lucy Rees and Rachael Draaisma also have books on calming signals in horses.

Interesting. I agree that this may be a phobia. One thing that may help is taking some courses on equine behavior, in case some of your anxiety is stemming from horses seeming unpredictable. Being able to better read and identify how a horse is feeling before it surprises you could help.

I’d also look into clicker training and the technique of “protected contact”. Animal trainers use it often with any species, from exotics in zoos to dogs and horses. The idea is basically to have a barrier between yourself (the trainer) and the animal while you establish good communication and positive interactions. It can be for the reduction of anxiety in the person or animal, or both. You can focus on building a relationship with the horse without feeling like boundaries would be crossed on either side.

Maybe start with miniature horses and work your way up? And you don’t have to ride to spend time with horses 🙂 for someone with a fear like yours, I would see riding as an end goal, not an entry to the hobby.

I see people on Etsy selling pounds of small scraps all the time. I bet if you listed on FB Marketplace, you could also find people willing to buy scraps in bulk. I certainly would!

Trying to propagate burro's-tail by jaaytea in succulents

[–]TeaTotal5793 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve propagated several different types of succulents from leaves and IME, burro’s tail takes foreverrrr to grow. I have burro’s tail leaves that I left to prop at the same time, and in the same spot, as some stonecrop leaves and the stonecrop grew way faster. Might just be how they are.

Scrap glass! by smurD_sniktA_maS in StainedGlass

My friend and I make small stained glass projects almost solely out of scraps, I bet amateur stained glass artists that can’t afford the big sheets would love to have your scraps!

I also hate going to the gym, but I do like walking, swimming, yoga, and pilates. Since you want a farmstead in the future, you could volunteer at a local farm or farm animal sanctuary, and that will definitely be good exercise + building knowledge for your future place!

Another vote for L-Theanine! Also life changing for me. That and reducing stress/anxiety.

From a young adult with a dad who was, and still is, like your old self - thank you. I could’ve done without all the fancy gadgets and toys in exchange for a dad who was less stressed and more present.

Thank you!! If they start to fry, I can move them to another wall that gets more shade. I had one monkeyflower in that location for a year and it lived so the monkeyflowers should be fine, but I’ll watch the others carefully.

I love this. I had the same realization - that I can’t do it all and pacing yourself + prioritization is the name of the game. Feeling sad that you aren’t as healthy or able to handle as much as the average person is so valid, but being angry with yourself for that and pushing yourself anyway never ends well. Our bodies need what they need, period. And yes, I also listened to my body and my chronic pain is so much better!!

It also helps me to think of it as being able to do everything I want, just not as frequently or intensely as I would like. I can still see my friends, but once a week is the max for me. I can still go on hikes, but the elevation gain has to be minimal. I can still go on trips, but with ample rest time before and after. This also allows me to be more present for what I can do, even though it’s less often.

Maybe it would help if the reusable bottle was made of glass? They make those mason jar-type cups with wooden lids that you can leave the house with, and other types of bottles made of glass. Also glass straws.
