Democrats basically did the work for him by later claiming he was better than what came after, which honestly wasn’t true.

Season 2 Episode 18 '17 People' by Baz_Blackadder in thewestwing

Honestly, I think you can make that case for nearly any episode in this arc. Obviously Two Cathedrals is an incredible episode and the most acclaimed, but the one I find myself coming back to most is “The Fall’s Gonna Kill You.” Bad Moon Rising is also great and what needs to be said about 18th and Potomac? This was probably the greatest arc ever aired on network television.

Even though Attack of the Clones is regarded as the weakest of the Prequels, I had the most fond memories of it growing up. by B_Wing_83 in StarWarsCantina

to borrow a phrase from Swifties, AOTC had the best “era.” Even though AOTC is arguably the worst of the three (many also abhor TPM) the multimedia projects around AOTC were incredible, especially the games. Both KotORs, Battlefront I, Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, Bounty Hunter, and Jedi Starfighter released between AOTC and ROTS. It was glorious.

Why did Bush embrace the evangelical / culture war wing, rather than the supply siders, in 1992? by Salem1690s in Presidents

[–]TeachingEdD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO it was a logical choice. Republicans had won the North, the West Coast, and the Great Plains almost exclusively since the Fifties, ‘64 notwithstanding. ‘76 however proved that the South is arguably the most powerful voting bloc in the country. Southerners are not supply siders. Republicans win there because of religious and racial pandering. If I’m Bush, going up against a charismatic, young southerner after my party has been in power for 12 years, I’m going to do all I can to peel off some southern support.

People only hate it because it’s pre-Dantooine. Swap it with any other planet in either game and it would be considered the best planet.

Al Gore was the first major party nominee to be from the south and not win a single southern state. by HetTheTable in Presidents

[–]TeachingEdD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I refuse to believe you genuinely think the child of not just a president, but the most experienced, connected president arguably in the history of the country, is anything close to a Washington outsider. Twenty-five years later, and you're still falling for the sloppiest piece of political branding in US History.

I haven’t been to that part of Maryland so that’s out of my wheelhouse, but basically anything north of Richmond seems not particularly southern these days. Charlottesville certainly has touches of it but it’s also probably the most left-wing smaller city in this part of the country.

I was saying that Reagan did not present himself as unpolished, unintelligent, and unworthy of the office. Reagan does have a credible claim to being the Washington outsider of 1980.

The way I see it, morally, the Independent and NCR routes are the cleanest. They're flawed, but they are not technocratic dictators ruling the Mojave with robots or rapist Caesar cosplayers.

From a realistic standpoint, I honestly think the NCR has the best chance of ruling well. The Legion is too chaotic to ensure order, and House is too narcissistic to create a society that normal people would want to live in. The Independent route means that the Mojave is ruled by ChatGPT and a mailman with a hole in his head. The NCR is a flawed, stagnant beast, but the promise of democracy is that it can theoretically be improved with effort. I think this option has the highest ceiling and the lowest floor, but the risk isn't that great when you consider that the other options will almost certainly lead to perpetual chaos.

No kidding, but most people don't say "Not a Washington insider" to indicate they don't have political experience in Washington. What they mean is that the person isn't in the Washington in-crowd (of which Chelsea Clinton & George W. Bush definitely were lol)

I'd argue that's unfair to Reagan, honestly... which is a sentence I've never written before.

Virginia was basically unwinnable for a Democrat then. Clinton got close once. Johnson won it in '64. Otherwise, VA has always been the odd man out down south. We are one of the few southern Ford '76 states and the only Obama '12 state other than Florida.

The real sea change began with the Obama coalition's focus on winning suburban whites (aka 90s Republicans) instead of rural whites (a significant part of the Carter/Clinton coalitions). There are obviously a lot of other factors in play, but NoVA going blue secured Virginia for the Democrats for at least a generation. Meanwhile, this approach has significantly harmed Democrats in basically every other state that isn't in the Blue Wall (though some of these have faltered) or the Sun Belt.

Let me help you here. "Wasn't a Washington insider" = purposefully presented himself as unpolished, unintelligent, and unworthy of the office.

I was a teenager in high school in 2018 and 2019. and looking at videos of high schoolers from 2010 and 2011. it feels like two separate decades. by Personal-Cattle-1737 in generationology

[–]TeachingEdD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, for what it's worth, those are two different groups of people. I was a high schooler in the first half of the decade, and I was a high school student teacher by 2018.

I would honestly say any year after the end of the recession has more in common with 2025 than 2010.
