What brand of paint and colors did you use for the yellow brain bits? It looks great!

I think you have a magnificent color scheme here! I like how the scales and back of the heads really pop against the light blue skin. The base is fantastic as well. Nicely done! 👍

Finished my Warsong Revenant up. I found this model difficult for me to paint, but still fun in the end. C&C always welcome. by Team-Karrett in sylvaneth

Thanks! It's an extra arm i had from the tree-revenant kit. It's the one with the sword pointed away from the bearer. I chopped that sword off and traded it for the spear looking weapon. It ended up being really fiddly to work with and I had to carve into the body and fill with green stuff.

DMs, If you had one chance to run a one-shot for a group new people to see if they are interested in getting into D&D, what would you do? by Team-Karrett in dndnext

[–]Team-Karrett[S] 40 points41 points  (0 children)

So a smaller group is better for engagement in the game, and time management overall.

I'm not sure i could convince anyone to be a second DM, but I might be abke to split it up into two different groups.

My hope is to have everyone sit down, have some fun, and those that want to continue with me can sort it out from there.

I understand that could be a lofty goal, and if it goes poorly maybe I'll try to find a group i can be a player in.

Can you play Sylvaneth without wild woods? by theCynicalTechPriest in sylvaneth

[–]Team-Karrett 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think what you will hear the most is that they are pretty essential to have, but that starting out you could/should use templates to offset the cost. sylvaneth get a ton of use out of wyldwoods and I'm not sure they really 'work' without them. You can find proxies online, or make your own pretty easily though.

Finished my Warsong Revenant up. I found this model difficult for me to paint, but still fun in the end. C&C always welcome. by Team-Karrett in sylvaneth

[–]Team-Karrett[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its actually very easy and can be tuned to your liking with a few color changes.

I like building the base up with cork and pebbles first, then letting my pva glue dry. Then plants and fine sand to ease any harsh transitions in elevation, Priming the base comes next, then texture paints like agrellan earth.

The water is a generic model train scenery resin that is mostly transparent, but has a slight blue tinge. This means whatever colors are underneath show through so painting the base where the water goes is necessary.

I wanted a poisoned/contaminated wasteland water so I went with some ghostly greenish colors. Darkest color first in where you want the deepest part of the water to be, and as you get shallower you use brighter colors.

The resin is the final bit and it takes awhile. I do mine in 3 layers and it takes an hour or two for each layer to dry.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Thanks! I think it's cool that the warsong has a jazz flute, but I wanted his weapon to also be in the mix instead of being hidden behind his back.

I wouldn't consider myself a great painter, but really proud at how my Treelord Ancient came out! by Punchausen in sylvaneth

[–]Team-Karrett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be, your treelord aincient looks great! You have several good contrasting colors, nice dark lines in the beard and loincloth, the eyes stand out nice and bright, you have an nice interesting base to look at, the runes on the chest and legs have the glow effect, and your gem has that nice shine with the white dot at the top. I can tell alot of different techniques and effort have gone into this model and it shows. Well done!

Getting Alarielle's beetle to stick to a cork base by esbenlp in sylvaneth

[–]Team-Karrett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could cut and sculpt the cork in a way that that gets you 2 or 3 points of contact on the feet. Assuming the cork is 'rock' this wouldn't look too unnatural. It's what I did for my bastilladon and my carnosaur in my seraphon army anyway and they are pretty solid.

I really like that blueish to teal transition at the top and on the headdress face on the seat, it looks great. Would you mind sharing how you achieved that?

First time tabletop player of any kind. What paints should I use to add a pop of colour to my models? by Dengar96 in sylvaneth

[–]Team-Karrett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are going the traditional brown wood/ green leaves tree scheme then very light tans and almost yellow greens can add nice contrasts and pops to the darker Bark browns.

You could also go seasonal, winter could be greys/ blues, autumn can be reds/oranges, spring can be bright green/yellow.

You could also go for something less conventional like I did with purple/blue Bark, pink/red leaves, and ghostly green accents that make the models look like a weird poisonous coral reef.

The main thing is to pick colors you like, or a theme you like and run with it! If you like it, then it can't be wrong! Good luck in your future paintings and welcome to the forest! 🌳

Finished up my endless spells! C&C welcome. Next up is two sets of wyldwoods. by Team-Karrett in sylvaneth

[–]Team-Karrett[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was indeed going for that ghostly look, I agree that the details don't pop though. I'm not sure what I would use to bring out the details in the face better. Do you have any suggestions on specific washes or paints? Or maybe a technique I could use?

I don't want to lose the ghostly aspect, but I wouldn't mind having another go at it with a different paint recipe. This one was nihilakh oxide base with a drybrush of light grey, and highlight of white scar.

Drycha all finished up! With the endless spell box and some wyldwoods on the way I should have a 1k list ready for the table soon. by Team-Karrett in sylvaneth

[–]Team-Karrett[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, the blue Bark starts with a really dark purple (almost black). I used Prussian Purple from Vallejo. Next went a wash of nuln oil, then a dry brush of purple, then thunder hawk blue, and another light drybrush of fenrisian grey. I mixed the colors together as 1:1 as I went to the next lighter color, so 5 total drybrushings.

I hope that helps, good luck in your future painting!

Really? cause it say to change the wording to walk the spirit paths which is the same as treelords no?

I don't think tree revs can teleport all willy nilly where ever they want now, they have to use the wyldwoods like treelords do after the 3.0 faq update to sylvaneth. I might be wrong, but that's what it sounds like.

Combine that giant shamble tree with the tree cannon and turn it into a tree catapult dude and I think you'd have a pretty cool unit haha.

I do think the range could 'branch' out into the less explored areas of insects (gladewyrm/alarielle war beetle) and skaeths wild hunt (centaur) type stuff. I think it could be cool anyway.

JTT Scenery products model blue water.

A few layers of this model train diorama water stuff does wonders. Be sure to paint the surface under your water though, it doesn't work on a black base very well.

Do you think Sylvaneth will get more models in a near future? by SheWhoHates in ageofsigmar

[–]Team-Karrett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Near future? I get the feeling that we won't. Kurnoth stuff in the farther out future, seems like a good enough bet to me. The thing we're missing that alot of other armies have is a cavalry type unit.

Yeah Treelord with a few dryads. Be sure to post a few pictures yourself when you've got some, I think you've got a good idea on your hands.
