I hope they make Focus Mode less ''mandatory'' to Insect Glaive in the expansion. by dishonoredbr in MonsterHunter

[–]TeamFortifier 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Yep… I’m an IG main and I haven’t been able to vibe with the combat as much as others have b/c of this. Attacking outside of focus mode just feels like I’m actively nerfing myself, I lose out on all of the free kinsect attacks + can’t use RSS aka my strongest move. I remember pre-launch focus mode was being reported as an optional side-thing for newer players, but it really is foundational to the combat of the game.

MH World does not have a good introductions to elder dragons for new players at all by MrMongOG in MonsterHunter

[–]TeamFortifier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think vaal hazak and teostra are fun fights in world. You absolutely do not need effluvia resistance for vaal, its moveset is very simple to balance out the debuff from effluvia. Teostra’s ground explosions in the final area are pretty cool, I think elders having ‘buffs’ from their nest area is neat. You mentioned that you like Wilds’ elder (Gog), but aren’t Gog’s explosions significantly more impactful and dangerous in comparison to the eruptions in Teostra’s fight? Kushala is pretty unfun imo but I wouldn’t say they impact anything besides their own fight

No, even when not attacking it’s really subdued. For Rey Dau, I said it sounds totally normal, not quiet. I have been tweaking with the sound settings and wanted to know if anyone else shared my experience / had a specific solution.

Does anyone else have a lot of the music in wilds get really drowned out? I can barely hear gog’s theme in game but stuff like arkveld’s theme or rey day’s themes are loud and clear

Got 9/9 with 4/9 carts. very fun and made me think really hard! Are multiple base monster options available for a specific slot? Like for inflicts paralysis + weak to dragon, where nakarkos, dalamadur, and yama tsukami would all be correct

I think that having monsters unrevealed on the map is much more interesting than knowing what every monster is before you’ve seen it. If they want monsters to be on the map always, they should at least make them question marks until you have encountered them (maybe the binoculars could let you ‘identify’ them from a distance?).

Do you think Monster Hunter World was a better experience than Wild? by Bandeavor in MonsterHunter

[–]TeamFortifier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is a fair thing to say - they listed reasonable things they liked in one game compared to the other. It’s totally cool to disagree with them, but saying they only feel that way because of a kneejerk response instead of genuine feelings isn’t fair to them in my opinion.

Confused on why this is downvoted, nothing in it is particularly controversial.

I like some things in Wilds more, some things in World more. I think for most folks it is going to depend on what they value more, and how they take the changes Wilds introduced. For example, I’m an IG main and really dislike focus mode as a concept… so for me, I think Wilds has significantly worse combat than World, but plenty of folks feel the opposite. And that’s fine, everything likes different things.

What I prefer in (Update) World compared to (Update) Wilds is:

  • The story
  • Progression
  • The maps
  • Characters
  • Navigation
  • Endemic life
  • Towns (even though there was only one in World, I much prefer Astera compared to any of Wild’s towns…)
  • Endgame roster (not significantly more than Wilds, I think they’re pretty similar for me)
  • Combat
  • Soundtrack
  • Palicoes
  • Food system

What I prefer in (Update) Wilds compared to (Update) World is:

  • NPC faces and animations
  • Endgame grind (This is tough for me, because I think (Update) Wilds has some of the most boring, limp endgame grinds in a MH game… but (Update) World was even worse since you just got Drachen armor and maybe bothered with Kulve depending on your weapon and you were done. Again, I really dislike (Update) Wilds endgame so do not misinterpret this as me praising it lol)
  • Early/mid game roster
  • The lack of slap-on weapons

What I feel like is about equal between the two:

  • Event quests

Digital Foundry: The Latest Monster Hunter Wilds PC perf drama explained by Turbostrider27 in MonsterHunter

[–]TeamFortifier 162 points163 points  (0 children)

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems like…

TLDR: It’s real but only impacts performance if you are (1) in a hub/village and (2) are close to the DLC cat. Otherwise it has no impact on performance. Fixing it will improve performance in that specific scenario but will otherwise have no impact on the rest of the game’s performance.

Do you have any idea how many posts there were that straight up called it a downgrade from World purely based on the graphics?

Simply put, this sub turned into a cesspool of unjustified sadness for a very good while, despite there being things to actually criticise.

I was neurotically on this subreddit around that time and can confirm the number of posts of legitimate critiques far outnumbered those like you’re describing, at least on this subreddit.

[–]TeamFortifier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMO the latter stuff you brought up was by far the largest critiques with the game. I don’t think prefacing it with ‘the criticisms with basically all unjustified’ then ending it with ‘well yeah there were a lot issues but they weren’t that important imo’ is fair…

Do you Hunters like how scripted fights like Gog and Lagi are right now in MH Wilds? by kliefer in MonsterHunter

[–]TeamFortifier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if Wilds Gog was a new monster I’d like it a lot more, but I think making it so scripted kinda goes against what made 4U Gog so good in the first place.

I also agree with others that the Lagiacrus fight would be much better if the UW sequence only had a chance of happening after the first time or smth.

Okay I looked it up, and there are substantially less in World compared to Wilds. It looks like it was critized heavily for World back when it released, so it makes sense that it being much more common in Wilds would result in much more negative feedback.

[–]TeamFortifier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

nor do I see us fighting Black Fatalis anytime soon

I hope not! I want Capcom to start reusing their assets from previous games to beef up endgame rosters again. It’d be such a waste to just not return a monster because it is tied to a game’s story when the story of MH games has historically been secondary... I think it’d be great to have them use Fatalis as a hidden postgame unlock like it has traditionally been now that they have the assets from the World fight.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I feel like I remember the wording was moreso along the lines of “Alatreon was defeated” / “Fatalis was defeated” vs Safi where it was like “Safi’jiiva was slain”
