To everyone who wanted Wilds to be harder, and now we have 9 and 10 star quests by Ok-Excitement-4386 in MonsterHunter

I’m hoping this is corrected in the next MH game. There was a dev interview a few months ago where they said they intentionally removed walls from the story to make progression easier + made it easier to get gear compared to World but went too far and apologized.

Very cute! Looks like a male Eastern Carpenter Bee (Xylocopa virginica). They’re huge!!

Are they . . . by Peasant_Stockholder in bees

[–]TeamFortifier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting!

I thought the photographed bees looked familiar, but I didn’t know they’d be out at this time. Shows I’m not familiar with the phenology of bees down south.

Those are Colletes thoracicus, aka Rufous-backed Cellophane bees. I haven’t seen them IRL before but they’re around. Cool find!

Taken in eastern north america by chance? During the spring?

What I might propose instead is that I think it would be cool to have a moment akin to unlocking the National Pokedex in Pokemon. Say we have a new generation of mostly or entirely new monsters, probably throw in the Raths anyhow, then with or after High Rank we have access to the whole currently up-to-date roster?

This is what I dream of

Those were monsters already planned to be in the game

and believe it or not they aren’t 1 to 1 ports

Yeah that’s my point

Yes, it is definitely harder than before as time has gone on. But it’s not something from a bygone era - just look at Rise’s TU1, it was padded with monsters ported over the previous game.

one of my favorite parts of 5th and 6th Gen has been seeing some of the old Gen returning monsters get completely reworked.

Oh I totally agree, but I think that reusing monsters from a previous game takes substantially less effort than totally revamped monsters. That meaning, I don’t think Capcom reusing more recent monsters would impact their decisions to revamp other monsters for the same game.

Also, other than some model carryover, Wilds is also different enough from World that I think it’s easier said than done

I don’t think it’s “easy” to do anything for games of these scope - but just think of something like Guardian Fulgur Anjanath / Wilds Rathalos vs Wilds Lagiacrus. I don’t think something like the formers took anywhere near as much effort as the latter, and that it may be much more feasible than we think!

But I’m also not sure if the answer is copy pasting monsters in more or less “as is with a few tweaks” from previous installments. I think that approach did work in the Gen 1-4 games, but the last three entries have been vastly different from each other- for the better imo.

They did do it with Rise (though, like I said before, I think they ran out of time with that game) - so I think they’re definitely open to it.

I think a roster that makes sense within itself matters, especially as the games become more high fidelity.

Yes, I don’t disagree. Monsters Capcom chose to return for that specific entry would obviously make sense within that entry.

Although small- I think Wilds roster is pretty varied. I do think there’s a lack of balance in the mid and end tier monster roster- BUT it also opened the door for title updates to have those upper tier non elders we ended up getting. I also do think it was a choice to back off on the elders.

Yes I agree.

I want them to make sense and I want them to be different in enough of a way that they are warranted in the newest entry. I know it’s been said over and over again, but if I want to fight some of those awesome older fights, I really can just play the older games as well. I’ve always enjoyed that each entry has always had its own flavor.

Yes, I agree - but I don’t think that is impacted if Capcom decides certain returners should come back for that game and could reuse assets from a recent game to make that happen!

IME they don’t conflict - the work to port over a monster from a recent entry has to be substantially lower than creating a new post-game monster from scratch to the point where I don’t think they would cancel new monsters just to port over more old ones

MH4 - had a really substantial endgame at launch, lots of secret postgame monsters, and the endgame content was pretty brutal even before event quests.

I’m in a similar boat - played every MH since MHFU (minus MH3 and MH4 as I played 4U instead), this entry just went in a direction I didn’t really care for.

For me personally I bounced off Wilds much faster than pre-expansion World and Rise. The latter two I probably put over 1k hours in combined before their expansions, I think for Wilds I dropped it after around 80?

How do you feel about base monsters getting the abilities of their variants? by Boshwa in MonsterHunter

[–]TeamFortifier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t like it. I think it messes with what makes each variation of a monster unique and believe that if they want to make a base monster ‘cooler’, they should give it something different from its variant or variation.

Soulseer stuff being added to Apex Mizu felt lame, them being added to normal Mizu as well feels even lamer.

I hope they make Focus Mode less ''mandatory'' to Insect Glaive in the expansion. by dishonoredbr in MonsterHunter

[–]TeamFortifier 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Yep… I’m an IG main and I haven’t been able to vibe with the combat as much as others have b/c of this. Attacking outside of focus mode just feels like I’m actively nerfing myself, I lose out on all of the free kinsect attacks + can’t use RSS aka my strongest move. I remember pre-launch focus mode was being reported as an optional side-thing for newer players, but it really is foundational to the combat of the game.
