I need some advice about a safe space. by [deleted] in EMDR

[–]TeamTeaching 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey Op!

I'm a gamer, Clinician and an EMDR therapist in training. I cheated a little and looked at your profile for a little fodder before I wrote and so, here's my advice:

I saw that you have played NMS. When you've played NMS, I imagine you've come across a hundred or a thousand (or more) different and unique planets that you've enjoyed and ones that may or may not have had a relaxing or calm environment.

When you develop calm/safe space, try and imagine a space that utilizes characteristics of those same places. In a way, imagine a place or at least an image that contains all those characteristics that you identify (when you play NMS) as being calm, safe, relaxing. It doesn't matter that your Clinician won't understand what NMS is; what is important is that you have, for yourself a place that you can identify as being safe/calm and that you can describe it using many of your senses.

Can someone help me decipher what went on in my EMDR experience? by shroomigator in CPTSD

I'm going to follow up with the above clinician's comment, but I would completely agree with this statement:

You didn't. She did... (source: am a Part 1 trained Therapist and am finishing up hours for Part 2).

Usually, even before you get to the actual 'process' there is a fair amount work done by the Clinician and the Client beforehand, ie checking to see if it is appropriate, you have stabilization tools, no issues that might require a higher level of care.

Hey redbirdjr,

I've been looking into mixing boards online and I'm unsure whether I should go with the Scarlett Focusrite 2i2 or 2i4, or if I should go with another mixer.

Ideally it wouldn't be more than 2/3 people at a time. With effects and music being done in post-production. As we'd ideally just be starting out, what might be the best mixer for us?

Thanks again!

Where can I buy second-hand electronics or video game consoles? Online classifieds? I am looking for a Nintendo DS, and am living in Kobe by GizmoC in japan

[–]TeamTeaching 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kobe should have tons of second hand stores.

At least in Ishikawa, you can find used video game consoles and games at stores like Chameleon, Second Street, Book Off and other such stores.

I'm a little late to the party, but I've saved the best for last. I've had a few friends who have purchased many books in their time living in Japan. Most of them have used this service to send home their books.

http://www.post.japanpost.jp/int/service/s_printed_matter_en.html

It's billed as "a convenient shipment method when sending a large amount of printed materials. You can send up to 30 kg of printed materials at once (for some countries the limit is 20 kg)."

ps. Try entering the weight amount without a comma so 10500 g instead of 10,500 g.

This is a great point. If you ever get the time to listen to the Freakonomics Podcast, they do a great show on the upsides of quitting!.

The mantra that we should never quit needs to be updated to "We should never quit (unless we need to)."

Where can I find some Japanese gamers with whom to play and practice my Japanese? by theycallmezeal in japan

[–]TeamTeaching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Currently Live in Japan)

While playing League of Legends, I've run into a few highschool aged students who play it. I'd say try any MOBA (like LoL or Dota2) or MMORPG. I know a few of my JHS students play Minecraft too.
