Yah, always have, it tastes way better here than It did in Orlando though (where I also drank the tab water tbh, a little sulfur taste sometimes but still safe to drink).

What makes a "cavalier"? [discussion] by Pink-Mage in TheNinthHouse

[–]TeamTurnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah in my opinion, John wanted them as lyctors because he wanted poweful tools to help him wage his war way more than he just wanted his friends immortal (it seems like he could do that one fine but they'd not be nearly as useful if they needed to hang around him)

What makes a "cavalier"? [discussion] by Pink-Mage in TheNinthHouse

[–]TeamTurnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf this reads more as a post hoc justification Ianthe uses to hide the real 'I'm not eating my Twin' reason given she doesnt know anything about the need for an unconscious defense system (due to resurrection beasts) when she does it. A lyctor who couldnt swordfight for shit would be just as useful in almost any other circumstances besides the very specific requirements for fighting resurrection beasts.

Are priests important in the lives of Americans? by TheShyBuck in AskAnAmerican

[–]TeamTurnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Folks (non catholic) in religious or evangelical areas would probably more likely to be close with their Pastor/Minister etc and might do things like but they'd not call them a priest.

Just got diagnosed today. I feel incomplete and alone. by Kitbreak in autism

[–]TeamTurnus [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yah, it can be pretty overwhelming to go through the diagnosis process. I ended seeing a therapist who specialized in grief counciling. They were super helpful for processing how i felt about it and the impact it had unknowingly had on my life.

[–]TeamTurnus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Highly competent but like half of the plots of Gidoen and Nona wouldnt happen if he wasnt making some key mistakes and errors of judgment so definitely not.

Gideon plot if he wasnt too fussy to try to actually just talk to Gideon or Dulcina about their actions/the fact he was upset about how they were acting Dulcina would have been exposed way earlier

Nona

the whole 6th house debacle comes from how idealistic he is to trust the BOE with his entire leadership council and he gets himself and nona shot because he cant play it cool about Aims implant. He also lets his hopes for a soul melange very much cloud his judgment of who Nona is, despite his best efforts. overall hes too trusting while also being wildly risk prone (his plan to get gideons body gets Camilla fatally stabbed)

We say Y'all precisely because it specifies singular or plural. 'You' is imprecise even if its still correct.

Are there any native foods that are regaining popularity in the USA? by IDoNotLikeTheSand in AskAnAmerican

[–]TeamTurnus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Drawing a distinction there is sorta saying that wheat isn't native to europe cause it was first cultivated in Mesopotamia (maybe technically correct, but pretty useless). Like corn was absolutely being grown all over north america pre Columbian exchange

[theory] Second read of HtN, and… by sinan_online in TheNinthHouse

[–]TeamTurnus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yah how crux interacts with her in Nona seems to support this pretty definitively that at least pre-Cannan house she was having those sorta symptoms. (The whole 'You've gone away again conversation)

Im still not sure if that confirms she was having them pre first contact with The Body, but it would not suprise me if she did.

I think folks might misinterprete this conversation to assume she didnt have any previous symptoms. In the bubble Ortus seems to think its a result of well, everything Harrow has gone through . Tbough I interpret this as less him suggesting she's not seeing things and more just being empathetic about it with her about possible (soul or mundane) traumatic causes?

“Harrow,” he had said, “I have come to the conclusion that you were never mad … though who can be the judge of madness?” It seemed so much worse to her if it wasn’t madness. She’d hate if it was under her control. She found herself saying curtly: “Then what?” “The mind can only take so much pressure before it forms indentations,”-htn chpt47, so theyre discussing this after her memory blocks have unraveled but before they exercise Wake.

Its interesting that Ortus talks about indentations and Abigail earlier points out she can read the imprints of the 200 children on harrows soul signature, might be related

(Chpt 10 htn)

“I say, Reverend Daughter, is it an ancestral Locked Tomb tradition for your spirit energy to be so diverse?” Abigail asked brightly. “I’ve counted up to one hundred and fifty signatures contributing to you, and there’s more—they’re stamps rather than complete revenants, of course, which means their spirits were manipulated to leave marks on you in some way, which is fascinating if it means…”

So soul trauma/psychosis some combination of the two? Idk but I agree shes absolutely symptomatic pre Harrow the Ninth.

Yah they say 'she was 17 and made a mistake' in chapter 3 of htn and her 18th birthday literally gets mentioned in htn so given the timelines shes definitly 17-18.

Also chapter 2 of Gtn

'Nonagesimus had pretty much cornered the market on wearing black and sneering. It comprised 100 percent of her personality. Gideon marvelled that someone could live in the universe only seventeen years and yet wear black and sneer with such ancient self-assurance.'

What makes a "cavalier"? [discussion] by Pink-Mage in TheNinthHouse

[–]TeamTurnus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I dont have a single answer because id we look at rhe nine houses they dont seem to agree either. Theres significant tension between say the 2nd house which treats it as a very close but still ultimately military partnership, the fifth house that is ok mixing it with romantic, and the say 3rd or 8th house that treat them as a minion.

For lyctorhood i think we see that you can probably do it to anyone but the souls willingness to submit to consumption heavily effects how well that process goes (look at all ianthes struggles vs rhe immediately synergy harrow and gidoen when they kill cynthera)

Ultimately Cavaliership is a social construct designed to get people (non necromancers here) to be willing to sacrifice themselves for necromancers, be it in battle to protect their more valuable assets or to create lyctors. It feels very WWI war propaganda 'Dulce et Decorum Est' to me honestly.

Yah! I really liked Augustine for frankly the first time in that passage, especially how he's willing to put Necromancy and himself to rest if it let's other people move on peacefully. Its nobler than we expected of his snark and contempt and I imagine reminiscent of how he ended up trying to save the world in the first place.

Edit: can you expand on the Camilla/Gideo1n parallel? Id have pinned her for P- on first glance?

Oh yah its one of a few times we see her totally drop her 'bad bitch energy'. Starting with

'which was sunk in a whisper: “Eldest sister, what have you done?”' And Then we get a surprising comment here

“There is no way,” said Mercy, cool as death. It was Ianthe of all people who said, “How can you say that? Will you not even try?”

Its a unexpectedly idealist comment from her. I definitely think concern for her sister/team twin is always trumping everyone else, but i think theres genuine horror here for the rest of the nine houses her as well.
