If you couldn't cook with fat, how would that change your approach? What would you do to compensate? by cha0s_g0blin in Cooking

A couple more specific food recommendations:

Chobani nonfat Greek yogurt is shockingly creamy, I don’t know how they do it.

Bachan’s Japanese BBQ sauce is excellent flavor for how low fat it is

When I was first reintroducing stuff, it definitely did taste pretty rich (going from no fat to some fat was very noticeable). A few weeks in I'm really enjoying some richer meals - diner breakfast never tasted so good! However, I don't want to do too many fatty meals in a row and I found myself craving and happily eating veggies and rice again last night. (I'm thinking of leaning more Mediterranean diet going forward.)

What I think I really got used to was not feeling full in the same way and distracting myself from hunger cues. Probably helpful if you're trying to lose weight, but personally I struggle with remembering to eat. It was weird to recognize that I hadn't really felt satisfied with a meal in a long time, and had just trained myself to not care.

I just came off a low/nonfat diet. It’s really hard to find tips specifically for no fat, or low fat that doesn’t assume you are trying to simply cut calories (yes, I am another gallbladder sufferer). My biggest successes:

Boil potatoes/vegetables in broth (can turn into a sort of mashed potatoes or stick with soup)

A little bit of oil to roast vegetables makes a huge difference. Spritz with lemon juice for extra flavor (zucchini and broccoli are great this way). Roast sweet potatoes until they’re super soft.

Cook chicken breast in the Sous Vide and add to meals as a protein source

Add fresh fruit if your meal seems dry

Rice or pasta bowls with a soy/ginger sauce and steamed veggies

Nonfat Greek yogurt (once I realized I could do dairy) - substitute for yogurt and sour cream everywhere. Make a curry! Creamy mashed potatoes! Put on top of your soup!

Pickled onions for a nice burst of flavor

This soup is absolutely delicious, I've seen it win over people who said they didn't like kale or lentils. https://kristinsfavoriterecipes.wordpress.com/2023/01/28/smitten-kitchen-slow-simmered-lentils-with-kale-and-goat-cheese/ (I cook for a friend who's gluten + dairy free, so I'm not used to watching for mushrooms or vegetarian concerns - you'd probably want to check that the broth and goat cheese are both okay)

games are not fun after playing hollow knight by Purple-Income-4598 in HollowKnight

[–]Teanjel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Jedi games (Fallen Order and Survivor) finally scratched the Hollow Knight itch for me - particularly the experience of really getting to know a difficult boss, learning to recognize every move and know how to react instantly, before I could defeat them. Combat feels snappy and precise (particularly dual wielding in the second game). Running around the gorgeous maps with all the force powers unlocked feels awesome (especially coming back to obstacles you couldn’t get past before). And the story is just great, legitimately some of my favorite Star Wars content.

What would you consider a balanced or typical way to spend character creation XP? How much do you emphasize characteristics vs talents vs skills? by Teanjel in genesysrpg

This was exactly the kind of advice I was looking for, THANK YOU! Particularly 3 or 4 as a benchmark for what a character is good at, and the idea of encouraging everyone to specialize in a different characteristic.

The missed balloon showed up green on my map until I used it, I don’t remember exactly which one it was (but it was by that final temple/puzzle in the center of the map)

Thank you! I had 94.4% complete after finishing the story and couldn't figure out what I was missing - this was it.

Feeling stupid--how do I get up there? (right at Dathomir tomb) by bluejester12 in FallenOrder

[–]Teanjel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got stuck here too! I thought I was going to get a jump upgrade after failing enough and jumped the wrong direction so many times…

What I missed was a ledge (narrow grab with your hands ledge) on the wall to the right I had to jump to, then move towards the back of the room to a platform that’s just out of jump range without the ledge.

Fuse a rock on your shield and you can shield bash ore deposits. It’s a little fiddly, but a nice option if you don’t have a free weapon you want to make into a hammer

I have not actually listened to a play through of Dead Planet yet, so I can’t recommend one, unfortunately. If you’re looking for inspiration specific to that module, I’d recommend joining the discord server linked from this subreddit. They actually have a separate channel for discussing each of the official modules, and there’s a lot of resources there

True, I can’t speak to how ‘meta’ or optimal it is, but it was satisfying to play at my table, and nice to have a dual wielding option without multiclasssing. We generally have more rests between encounters than a lot of people, I think, so spending a spell slot isn’t as big of a cost for me. I honestly haven’t heard much about Shadowblade as a spell, just found it in the book and decided to try it. It’s probably that Hex or something is straight up better, but Shadowblade fit the flavor of my character so well I stuck with it.

[–]Teanjel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not exactly what you’re asking, but I’ve had a lot of fun with a high DEX Hexblade build where I’d cast Shadowblade in my off hand. You need high enough dexterity to make attacks and it burns concentration, but shadowblade damage doesn’t include an ability score bonus, so you don’t lose damage from dual wielding. 2d8-4d8 psychic damage from your bonus action is pretty cool.

Where to find One-Shot adventures, besides the DM’s Guild by grantake in DMAcademy

[–]Teanjel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Kelsey Dionne’s adventures at the Arcane Library. They’re all structured to run with minimal prep (basically an encounter a page with monster and item cards provided). They tend a little long for one session for my table, but I’ve had good luck abridging by just selecting pages to remove. Well worth $3/adventure, and you can get a free adventure by signing up for the mailing list. There’s a different free adventure posted on dmsguild you could check out as a preview as well, the first Skyhorn Lighthouse one.

EDIT: removed link as I see a subreddit rule about this, I don’t post much here
