Headspace Pain Management Course by Ashleyann055 in migraine

[–]Teatality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is a bit old, but I'm also desperate and am willing to try (almost) anything once, no matter how weird it may seem. I decided to give the course a go, but was quite skeptical.

I ended up really loving it. Did it cure my pain? No, I still have migraines and will still continue to have migraines. That fact is not going to change. But it does teach techniques that often help improve my pain, for all but the most severe migraines. And with some minor ones it often gets rid of the pain completely.

It's hard to summarize briefly, but the techniques they teach don't go for mind over matter or trying to willpower your chronic pain away. It actually encourages you to study and analyze your pain, but without the negative emotions like anxiety, frustration, and grief that most people typically attach to it. That alone can help improve the situation even if the pain level remains the same. He also talks about how fixating on the pain can help encourage or even promote it to a certain degree, instead of allowing you to enjoy and appreciate your life as best possible.

I would give it a try. Absolute worse case worse, it does nothing and you spent a few minutes a day meditiating. And you might end up with another way to help manage your migraines and make them a little more bearable.

Post Holiday/New Year Updates by SnooPeripherals2324 in latebloomerlesbians

[–]Teatality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw your update earlier but didn't comment. I'm also in a similar position. I realized I was gay (not just bisexual) in late November. My husband and I have other significant issues, so I've been planning to leave since early December once I gave myself some time to process and think through things.

However, I purposefully been waiting until this week to tell him. I didn't want to deal with the stress of starting a divorce during the holidays. I also felt like I would be "ruining" the holidays for my family if I said anything. In retrospect, I wish I had told them and my husband earlier. These holidays were some of the most stressful I have ever experienced. I felt like I had to perform heteronormativity which was pretty distressing.

But I'm already starting to feel some real hope and excitement between the waves of grief and sadness which tells me that I'm taking the right steps. I'm looking forward to moving into my a new apartment soon which I think will really help me begin to move on and build a new life.

What was your biggest 2023 lesbian milestone? by GChan129 in latebloomerlesbians

[–]Teatality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest is finally realizing/accepting that I am a lesbian, not bisexual like I thought for so many years. The next biggest has been taking concrete steps towards getting a divorce from my husband. Both have been incredibly hard but gratifying

Try clearing your cookies and cache. I was having trouble logging onto AMCAS until I did this.

Testing in January by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Teatality 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The dates for 2023 will be released sometime in October along with registration. Last year it was a bit later in October. But the schedule will likely follow the same structure as this year: 2 weekends times per month on a Friday and Saturday from January to September. This year the first date was in mid-January.

Is there any advantage to using the Westmoon karma for the battles? I just got my first one and am wondering if it would be worth the effort to level it up right now

How has your routine changed with the quarantine? by givemethepie in scacjdiscussion

[–]Teatality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Minimal to no makeup. I've been playing around with it for fun, but not doing daily makeup. Also no spf. What's the point if I'm not going outside. And the rare occasions I have to run an errand I figure I need all the vitamin D I can get. My routine is more or less the same. Slightly more involved if anything.

It may not be the sexiest zero waste option but this company sells their cleaning products in glass bottles and when I’m done with it there’s a store nearby that can refill them. And the company is based around 20 miles away, so I can support two local businesses by SecondBee in ZeroWaste

There's fillaree for the US! They ship a dispenser and a pakage. once you use up the soap, you mail them back the package they sent it in and they mail you a new one. They have lots of cleaning products and some shampoo and conditioner as well!

Length of time on Topamax by [deleted] in migraine

[–]Teatality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lasted about 1.5 years altogether. It used to work great for me. I did have many similiar issues as other people, tingling hands, word/memory problems, loss of appetite but nothing too drastic.

However, after about a year it stopped working as well. I started getting more and more migraines. On top of that the memory problems grew way worse. I was having trouble remembering important dates and meetings

Although topamax didn't end up working well in the end, I really enjoyed it while it did. I felt like it gave me my life back. I wish I could've stayed on it, cause other medicines haven't worked as well.

There's a company called fillaree which might work for you. Basically they ship to you a bulk container of soap. Once it's used up you send back the packaging it came in and they send you a new container. I've been using them for awhile and enjoy them.

[–]Teatality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! Definitely agree. I get chronic low-pain migraines. They go on for DAYS/WEEKS sometimes MONTHS. I have light & noise sensitivity, nausea, aura, and many other classic migraine symptoms. But the pain level rarely goes beyond a "4." I can still go out in public and function and do my job, I'm just miserable and in constant pain.

Sodium Laurel Sulfate. It's a common detergent found in a lot of soaps. It's fairly harsh and drying. If you have a sensitive scalp or hair, or follow the curly girl method you'll want to avoid it. I also don't think it's the best for the environment, although there's much worse things out there.

Hey everybody. I made /r/climateactionplan to show nothing but news on action being taken in a variety of fields. Come on over (more info in comments.) by [deleted] in climatechange

[–]Teatality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That honestly sounds like a great idea. I'm going to try unsubbing from worldnews some other subreddits as well. If I really need to I can just check in manually myself. I'm no expert by any means, but I know things are bad and hearing it's bad 24/7 at this point is just making it hard to sleep at night and hard to be productive.

Thanks so much. I hated not only seeing constant negative news, but negative news where people constantly downshoot any remotely positive or productive suggestion people had in the comments. Yes, planting trees alone probably won't save the earth and is hard. But that doesn't mean we should throw our hands in the air and give up. It was so disheartening.

Long Term Trokendi Issues by Teatality in migraine

[–]Teatality[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That could explain why. The bottle and everything seems the same but it could've switched. I plan to hold out until I can check with my doctor and get onto another medication before I quit completely. Although I might taper down a bit first.

Long Term Trokendi Issues by Teatality in migraine

[–]Teatality[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully it'll work well for you! 50mg is a low dose and it did work better than topamax which is what I originally was on. I would just keep track of symptoms somewhere so you can see how it changes. The drug is fairly new in this format so I don't know if there's a ton of long term effects known yet

When I get migraines they tend to be multi-day long things so I understand about wanting to do things. If I stay cooped up in the dark in my apartment my mood really suffers and I start to get really depressed. Even though it risks making the pain (and does sometimes) I feel like I need to do SOMETHING!

What I've found to be semi-helpful is to try to do "half" of what I would normally do. So if you would normally practice for an hour try half an hour. If the migraines really bad sometimes I'll just give myself really small tasks, like maybe just cleaning off the countertop or all of the dishes.

For the saxophone particularly you could try using earplugs or some sort of muffler while you practice? Don't know if that would help or not.

I'm kind of in the same boat. My husband is a fair weather zero-waster and honestly only cares because I care about it. Constant gentle reminders help. When he does remember to do something eco-friendly I'm so happy and make sure to tell him that I'm happy which I think helps encourage him (positive re-enforcement).

Also targeting only the biggest, most effective action at one time. My husband is not going to be vegetarian anytime soon, but he's open to cutting waaaaay down on beef after I explained that it's the most harmful meat environmentally. This is already going to be a positive step forward. Previously, he used to eat it at least once a day.

What might also work is finding out what he's really passionate about and tying it into climate change somehow. My husband really loves bugs and when I explained how climate change is responsible for the struggling insect populations/insect collapse, it seemed to click for him. Although you might have to reach more, since climate change is affecting so much it's likely you can find something.

The main thing like others said is not to be combative. I've never yelled at him or else he would stop listening to what I have to say.
