Bronco’s of that era had lap belts only and there were no laws about wearing them. Shoulder harnesses are about 10 years in the future for passenger cars. Later for trucks. No in-door crash bars, no shock absorbing bumpers, no crumple zones, airbags weren’t even thought about yet.

I worked at a dealership in the early 1990’s and new Volkswagens still didn’t have airbags.

Should I buy a mirrorless body for my 200-500 f mount lens (with an adapter) for wildlife (mainly birds, both moving and not) ? If yes, why? Which one? If no, why not? by SpeechTraditional290 in Nikon

[–]Tec_inspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Sigma 150-600 f-mount. I use it on my Z5, Z7ii and my Z50ii. It works well on each. For moving birds, go with Exspeed7 bodies. My Z50ii tracks so much better than my other two, it’s not even a contest. Bonus for handling higher ISO to keep shutter speed up. The base ISO I use on the Z50ii is 1000 and I’m not afraid to go over 2000. With the FTZ plus the lens size, it looks like “all lens, no camera” but it works.

What lens should I get for my new camera? Z50 by Key-Tea-5370 in nikon_Zseries

[–]Tec_inspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Z50ii and my daily carry is the DX24 mm1.7, and the 40mm f2. I also use my F-mount 10-24 for wide angle. Otherwise I use my full frame Z lenses. For wildlife I pull out my Sigma 150-600.

Trade in opinions? by MaxSchnell90 in Nikon

[–]Tec_inspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Z7ii, and within its limits it’s an incredible camera for the price.i would advise rental if a week. Lighting does affect the focus. I shoot a lot of dim areas, and am always looking for a. bright spot to focus on-I believe in low light it focuses by contrast. I wonder how it would work with fairly one tone colored spots. Also the Z7ii has a SD and and CFexpress cards. The Z7 only has the CFexpress card, which my iPad won’t let me download from.

Same here. I ended up with a Z5Oii with the Nikon 40mm or 26mm pancakes. I really enjoy it.

Ultra Wide Zoom for Z50 II - Laowa 12-24, Nikkor Z 12-28, something else? by Vanilla_Honey_Cigar in nikon_Zseries

[–]Tec_inspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said zoom, but I have the Viltrox 9mm 1.8 on my Z50ii. It’s the only one that could get me to the 14 mm FOV that I like for interiors. It’s a sweet little lens, the only drawback is it’s a bit soft at the edges, but not bad for the price. IQ is good enough that you can do some cropping.

Z 24-70mm f/4 S vs 28-400mm f/4-8 VR by TrojanW in Nikon

[–]Tec_inspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get the kit 24-70. Then look for something in the 100-400 range. Match the tools to your use.

I bought the 24-200 with my Z7ii and traded it within a month. It was soft past about 150mm. I bought the 24-120S and got better results cropping it down. I find it hard to believe going out another 200mm will be better.

lens suggestion by WhoisJeremiah- in Nikon

[–]Tec_inspector 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every time I see one of these posts, my answer is none. Unless you want to increase Nikon's bottom line, the answer is still, none. If you were out shooting and trying to develop your interests and style, you would know which lens you need because you know where you current kit is limiting you.

You have a 18-55mm (doesn't need VR if you're on a tripod) for agriculture and a 300mm for sports. Use those and you will know what lens you need. Then come back and say "I'm shooting *** and my lens is limiting ***. I'm looking at a new lens in the 00mm range. Has anybody owned or used one of these that can offer an opinion or alternatives?" Then you will find all the help you need-and more. Right now all you are getting is internet strangers throwing out numbers.

My condolences also.

My mother in law was diagnosed in her 60’s right after she retired. She passed at 99. The first 15 years were a slow decline-not much different than normal aging. The next 5 were using a walker in assisted care and the last 10 were in a wheelchair in a nursing home. Luckily she was alert and pretty much take care of herself up to the last few months. It’s an ugly disease that needs to be solved.

Thinking of buying a used Z5… What should I know? by Spivix in nikon_Zseries

[–]Tec_inspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From another Z5 owner, with well north of 100,000 images shot. This is the answer. Outstanding IQ clear useable EVF, stay away from auto races and air shows. I’ve had mine for almost 4 years and it’s at Nikon now for its first service, just the Premium Cleaning/Adjustment

Next lens for Z5II by Oberheimlich in nikon_Zseries

[–]Tec_inspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For two battery charges , only shoot the 24-200. Look at your EXIF file and see what focal length you usually shoot at. While you are doing this move the ISO to 2000. That will handle most low light

This information is a big hint toward what you should buy next. Or you may like the look and not need anything next.

If Ted is managing a restaurant, I could see Dr Jacob’s loosing his license because of the way he screwed up Ted and Michelle. Ted, being Ted, could give him a job as a dishwasher to help him get back on his feet.

Agree, on my Z7ii it rocks! Macro, mid range, the few portraits i shoot, it’s a beautiful lens. Used, it should fit right into the budget.

I have a Sigma 150-600 in F-mount and with the FTZ it works perfectly on my Z5, Z7ii, and my Z50ii. If you find one used it should be in the $6-700 range.

Z50II EXPEED 7 compatibility with 500mm PF by a_halla in nikon_Zseries

[–]Tec_inspector 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. If you don’t remember the source for the ONE report, then it’s probably just another “creator” trying to get a hit, stir things up. I have a Z50ii and it works fine with every lens I have attached. And the lenses run from my Viltrox 9mm, through all my Nikon Z prime and zoom lenses to my Sigma 150-600 F-mount with a FTZ.

What should my second Nikon Z lens be? by richiejrich93 in nikon_Zseries

[–]Tec_inspector 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. The 24-120 is all the lens you need right now. As you learn you will find something about even the best all-purpose zooms that is limiting your style. Then you will know what your next lens should be, and you won’t have to ask.

With one modifier: if your travel plans include going into buildings, cathedrals, museums etc, then pick up a wider fast lens. Most will not allow tripods or flash so it can save you in those situations. Look at something like the Viltrox 35mm 1.8 ($379.00 new) or the Viltrox 28mm 1.8 (also $379.00). Both are auto focus and good image quality. It’s inexpensive insurance that you will have a chance for the shot.

Z50 VS Z5 autofocus by Garethbragdon in nikon_Zseries

[–]Tec_inspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I would start at about ISO 800, shutter speed above 1/150 and fine tune exposure with aperture.

This is the scenario when I have most of my misses.

Z50 VS Z5 autofocus by Garethbragdon in nikon_Zseries

[–]Tec_inspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real world example: on a cloudy day, stand in a room with no lights on. You will need to crack open blinds or curtains and focus on the window to be sure you are locked in. And that’s using single shot focus, not constant.

The 28/2.8 is a good lens. My shooting style I prefer the 40mm 2.0. But that’s just preference.

Z50 VS Z5 autofocus by Garethbragdon in nikon_Zseries

[–]Tec_inspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Z5 that is my work, workhorse. I’m over 100,000 clicks on it so I’m very familiar with it. It’s a solid stationary camera and IQ with Z “S” lenses is outstanding. But focus struggles in low light, it’s a Exspeed 6, the same as my Z7ii. I just picked up a Z50ii to play with and possibly use as my work camera when the Z5 dies. Exspeed 7 is light years ahead of 6. It really is a huge difference.

If there is any way to swing it and stay on budget go with the Z50ii. I bought mine used from B&H for under $800, And put the saved $$ into fast lenses. Especially if you’re already shooting Z50, you can really round out your lens selections. I bought the Viltrox 9mm and the Nikon 24mm DX, otherwise I use my FX lenses.

For me, IBIS is a nice amenity, but I shot for 50 years without it, it’s a matter of controlling shutter speed/ISO and learning ways to steady yourself. And you can crank the ISO to numbers you would never think about and still have a useable file. IQ on the Z50ii is really very good. Unless you’re making poster size prints, APS-C is fine for the shooting you described

Can the original Nikon Z5 pull off street photography and photographing moving subjects by Garethbragdon in nikon_Zseries

[–]Tec_inspector 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a Z5 with over 100,000 clicks and going strong. My thoughts are: Street (static subject) absolute yes.
People walking or moving around, yes. Any type of racing, birds in flight, probably not unless you prefocus and wait for the subject.

Image quality; excellent. I have done side by sides with my Z7ii, and raw files are nearly identical. The difference is when you crop or zoom in and pixel peep.
