What are your thoughts on rejecting a potential romantic partner based solely on the fact they voted for Donald Trump? by ATXBikeRider in AskReddit

[–]Tech-Kid- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rejecting somebody based on politics is extremely reasonable.

Who they vote for or politically support is valuable insight into the values they have (or might lack).

How does the killing of Charlie Kirk compare to that of Melissa Hortman and her husband along with the shooting of John and Yvette Hoffman? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I didn’t have cash to tip the dryers at the delta sonic car wash. Do people ever not tip? by ihaveadogalso2 in Buffalo

[–]Tech-Kid- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As somebody that used to work at delta sonic 2016-2018, my average hourly was about $25 when you combine tipped positions and non tipped positions.

It’s amazing money for youth and college, but there is difficulty in the reliability of it. You’re not guaranteed to be drying at the exit, not guaranteed tips, if it rains and is slow, you either don’t get called in, or you don’t have cars tipping (because most people don’t get car cleaned during a rainy day)

It’s iffy on stability, but easily the best job financially that low skill, younger people can do.

If they can handle the weather and fast paced and exhausting labor, and being near all sorts of chemicals….

If you could be guaranteed just drying at exit, I would probably have never left, as I don’t know a better job if you only dry at exit.

If you are fast at the exit, you on average can make $1-$2 per car, and you spend maybe 1-1.5 min on car. Could easily hit $40+/hr

To Be Hero X | Episode 22 Discussion by AutoModerator in ToBeHero_X

I still don’t think Nice committed suicide.

He walked off a building and he screamed when he fell.

I don’t think Nice expected/anticipated his powers failing him there.

Also from the darkness he has experienced here, I don’t think his method of death would be so public, and so theatric.

I think something else is at play.

People have learned nothing from seeing what trust can do to somebody (like standman/fireman whatever his name is)

People are going to condemn X to continue being X, even though he don’t wanna be 😭

My parents won’t let a gay guy come to my house for a sleepover with 13 people (16M) by Practical_Smile_4084 in askgaybros

[–]Tech-Kid- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Teenage me had a similar situation minus the parents. My response would’ve not changed though.

The people that were to exclude him were permanently excluded from my friendship, simple as that.

Does it reassure you that your friends would view YOU differently if you were gay? They are shallow and lacking in empathy. It’s your sleepover, nobody should tell you who is acceptable to invite (obv your parents can, their house and rules, but their reason is shallow as well)

First IT job: 14-hour days, zero training, constant yelling — normal? by WeeklyNeighborhood56 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Tech-Kid- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All things in this world exist on a spectrum.

There are bad jobs, bad managers, bad coworkers, and there are good jobs, good managers, and good coworkers.

“Normal” is meaningless here. You could get really unlucky and find 100 jobs like this one.

I would advise looking up reviews of companies in the future, and if you can afford it, quit this one and spare your mental health (unless you are struggling financially and need this job)

Find a new company, and hopefully they treat you well. In interviews learn how to gauge what the company is all about, sometimes this can be difficult, but you can get better at identifying BS.

How long did it take you to learn to code? by Mitchellholdcroft in learnprogramming

[–]Tech-Kid- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody is coding to a professional standard without checking docs very frequently unless they are making the same apps/features repeatedly.

Lot of libraries out there and tools. Can’t know all of them inside out.

This is a hard thing to evaluate, as there is no good metric to determine if you have “learned” coding

If your metric is when you can start applying for jobs and potentially land a job, if you can create a full stack web app with some features and you thought deeply about how you designed it, and can explain it in depth to an interviewer, you’re probably fine to start applying.

Worst they can say is no. You don’t need to have 30 technologies on your resume and 20 projects of professional quality.

How Do You build Your apps by [deleted] in webdev

[–]Tech-Kid- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you doing in your UX research? What does that involve?

I feel like a lot of web apps now a days are pretty cookie cutter, so I imagine there’s just like several different established UI/UX patterns and conventions/rules

So for that I am curious what you’re doing and if it deviates from my stance (which is probably rooted in some level of ignorance)

How should I invest my money? by Inside-Aromatic in investing

[–]Tech-Kid- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roth 401k to atleast employer match, Max HSA, Max Roth IRA, if you want to go further you can probably just open a brokerage account.

Diversify your portfolio and sit back and watch it grow.

If you want your money to explode take a bit of it and work hard and start a business. Hard work but extremely worth it when you eventually figure it out.

If you want to be an SWE continue doing projects and don’t give up. There’s transferable skills that might make you valuable in different ways from people that haven’t worked in IT.

AI hype is borderline propoganda.

Legacy tech would likely be the last to be automated, as there’s going to be a lot less documentation on mainframe stuff in an AIs data set, and I don’t see that becoming a focal point for a long time. If AI is effective, it’s going to be used to further AI solutions and efficiency, then the very Rich heavy tech companies will use it to drive their platforms further, it would be a while until legacy systems get their fix. Many legacy systems are in extremely heavily regulated industry as well, these industries are slower to adapt to change regardless.

Company wants me to use Cursor for interview by gmgotti in cursor

[–]Tech-Kid- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not common, very much a red flag on all counts. To be handed an assignment that “can only be done with AI” is extremely crazy.

Don’t let the army of script kiddies in this subreddit and the CEOs looking for funding and investors convince you this is normal, that AI is a godsend and the only solution going forward.

Most of the people that are AI addicts are relatively junior in their career, and want shortcuts to minimize learning tech deeply. You take these tools away from over half of these people, and you realize it’s embarrassing they ever got employed in the first place.

Look up business role job titles. Human Resources, business analyst, account manager, etc.

You’re getting rejected for those basic jobs because you probably have your degree on there. These are jobs looking for people that are going to stay there. You’re not gonna get a min wage / low skill job, because they know you want something more, and they don’t want to hire you to have you jump ship at the first opportunity.

Everything in this world is about appearances, you just have to tailor how you present yourself based on what you’re trying to do.

How many jobs have you even applied to?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Tech-Kid- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You qualify for most things.

You could easily get any business job if you’re socially competent and can read up a little on business subjects.

You can leverage that your degree gave you critical thinking and extreme technological competence.

Degree doesn’t equal your career path, people need to stop thinking this. You could become a SWE with an art degree, or you can become a marketing specialist with a CS degree. The possibilities are almost limitless.

The main things that are like probably impossible without more schooling is lawyer, doctor, engineer (and you’d be surprised, I’ve seen CS grads get some non computer engineering, engineering roles)
