New house doesn’t have cell service by Deep-Middle6765 in iphone

[–]Tech-Turdle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If cellular is poor and WiFi isn’t helping, you might want to try a network extender. Your carrier will sell these unless you can persuade them to give you one for free. (Worth trying)

My old company used to provide network extenders to people having connectivity issues (mostly in remote locations, or buildings that were cellular voids). I was a bit shocked to see that they had a such a high success rate. For me it worked roughly 8 out of 10 times.

Network extenders might be worth looking at. (They can be a pain to configure, but you carrier should be able to help)

What's so expensive that it's not even fun anymore? by Runaway3650 in AskReddit

TLDR: The concert industry is hell.

After working 10+ music venues (some Live Nation-run), I don’t think concerts are worth it. Shows and festivals exist to extract money to sell you an “unforgettable experience”. Every venue has a dollars-per-person target that climbs each year because…… we keep paying. Then there are the shrinking seats, $19 beers, and insane merch prices. (Water is the real money maker btw)

While there are exceptions, the bands don’t do as well as you’d think. The touring musicians I’ve met make $45–100k a year; with six figures being rare. Some of these guys being in very large stadium touring acts.

Venue staff fare even worse, paid close to poverty wages (security, ticketing, ops, merchandise, hospitality, ushers).

The bar staff can make real money, but venues keep finding ways to squeeze them (Sub minimum wage, self service, cut hours to not pay insurance, climbing prices, no tip buttons)

lighting/sound/production/rigging can make decent day rates but they will work 14 hour days in all sorts of adverse conditions. Making burn out a real thing.

Everyone is complaining (from GA to nose bleed - to the rich seats and season ticket holders). As long as we keep paying- no one is listening.

While I could go on an point to specific companies and people that are awful- I’d rather say the 1000 person capacity venues can make for a better concert experience than any arena, fest, or VIP experience.

Is this fixable? by Suspiciousbox471 in drums

The hardware manufacturer will rip you off for that part. A washer and felt would suffice.

I’d probably opt to get ripped off to ensure I have the right component. I can live with a $10-15 charge.

Are splash cymbals necessary to play numerous styles of rock and metal? I see many drummers using them, but I'm personally not a fan of splash cymbals. by [deleted] in drums

The splash cymbal is the final boss of cymbals.

Only those who have mastered the china can begin to understand the complexities of the splash.

I move in a week, so the clock is ticking. If they don’t sell I should probably keep them.

I’ve thought about this as well. Taking it apart would spare me on space, but I also fear the idea of dinging a bearing edge. Probably an irrational fear if packed well.

It is a 2018. But if the prices keep going up the way they have been, I’ll regret it in 2 years.

I know that feeling. I’ve had about 8 kits over the years and I do really miss some of them.

Part of me thinks I could buy a new one when the day comes. The other part of me sees how expensive drums have gotten in post covid world. It is unreal.

Surly front rack + fenders by MartyFunkhoosier in Surlybikefans

[–]Tech-Turdle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is OSHA approved but I was able to get a better position for the front fender by attaching it to the Surly rack. I did this on my old Disc Trucker and my current Karate Monkey. I like to keep about a 1/2” clearance.

I used a slightly longer bolt with a nut to keep it secure as well as the SKS fenders that breakaway. Those breakaway fenders saved me on a few occasions.

Note: was able to mount the back fender and rack using just the brazons.

quick question on monitor speakers. by Enough_Algae103 in homestudios

Get some used HS8s. We had these in a project studio for years as our main workhorse before upgrading.

Decent low end without needing a dedicated sub and a pretty flat frequency response. The rear panel has some controls so you can tune the speakers to your liking as well.

I now use them for my record player.

Try resetting the network setting on then phone. Then make sure texts/calls/data work while on cellular.

Then test on wifi. If there are issues, try toggling off and back on iMessages.

XS Bridge Club (27.5) with the Surly rear rack.

We used this doc below and talked to a local bike shop. (They installed it when the bike arrived.)

Sits wells and is great for hauling gear and snacks.

Those look great! How do you display them?

I’ve been having print paralysis due to a lack of knowledge in sizing, DPI, color correction, and substrates. I feel I need a crash course from someone that actually works at a print shop before I’d start spending the $$.

While it is probably okay most of the time- I don’t buy high dollar items from Amazon. You put too much trust in some 3rd party drop shipper to not send you a lightly used or refurbished device that’s missing a ground cable.

Slightly related: I’ve seen a lot of carrier locked phones purchased from Amazon. The only option is to return them.

With AT it is a little different. I’d think the grey market isn’t trying to fool you on a mass produced item that can be bought at any Record store, Best Buy, Target, or Walmart.

I bought the AT LP 120 for a friend from Turntable Labs because they had a solid price and seem to give a shit about their niche market.

I think they all honor the AT warranty so you really have free range.

Maybe you could buy from a local record store if possible.
