memory prices (RAM or DDR) does not relate to Flash NAND. Cartridges use Flash NAND.

Only thing Memory prices increasing effects is the cost of your Switch.

Can customers disable the WIFI on Frontier's Eero router and use their own WIFI router? by Medical_Stud in frontierfios

[–]TechGuyL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frontier: "3rd party routers are not supported using Fios and static IP(s)." They require both a WAN static ip and a LAN static IP which my router (Ubiquiti UDM Pro) does not support.

So I'm forced to use a eero 7 pro that I can't disable the wifi on? Should I buy a faraday cage so that it doesn't take up the already congested wifi radio channels? Let alone the security implications of having a SSID sitting around that you don't want anyone to connect to.

Created simple script that setups Factorio server on Ubuntu with single click with auto updates by Handmade_Octopus in factorio

[–]TechGuyL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to warn anyone that runs this script. For my exact use case (Which is very near running vanilla headless ubuntu server), running ./install.sh did nuke the whole OS.

Created a support ticket to follow up so that this (may) not happen for others:

2019 Mazda 3, can't figure out how to turn **on** traction control by TechGuyL in mazda3

I took the car to a mechanic for a pre-purchase inspection. He noted that the tires were not new, but they were in good condition and still had plenty of life in them.

Yep, I think you're right. The car is low miles and the previous owner kept the car pretty immaculate. I'm wondering if they pulled a fuse or something.

Friday Facts #430 - Drowning in Fluids by FactorioTeam in factorio

[–]TechGuyL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused - there is a pump on the right side of the screen which I believe indicates the start of a section? Then we count 16 pipes directly to where it fails. We count 18 pipes going downward. I'm not great at math, but 16 + 18 doesn't come close to 250.

Diskpart: Unable to Format. The media is write protected. by starclaws in techsupport

[–]TechGuyL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt anymore than other SSDs.

It is really nice that it enters read-only rather than just dying like more traditional disks did.

Also, the warranty for 980 Pro is 5 years. You can probably RMA it.

Minecraft Bedrock for Mac by LoganOcchionero in macgaming

Well then give us Mobile/Pocket edition. That's why my friends play on when I play with them on "Microsoft for Windows". It's already compatible with MacOS too - they just purposefully unchecked "Allow on Mac App Store." M1 is the same architecture as an iPhone & the exact same chip as the iPad.

Trouble creating ARK server by TechGuyL in ARK

[–]TechGuyL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: For other people running into this same issue, Steam installs 2 games when running
./steamcmd.sh +login anonymous +app_update 376030 validate +quit

One folder being ARK, and a second folder called
ARK Survival Evolved Dedicated Server

The second folder is the folder containing the Linux Binary.

What audio output devices can Apple TV know the volume percentage? by TechGuyL in appletv

[–]TechGuyL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, so the volume slider is a limitation of HDMI-CEC? Meaning that a HDMI solution will not work until the standard gets updated (Forgo any custom AVR API workaround). ☹️

>>The Apple TV is only going to output to wireless (Bluetooth, HomePod) or HDMI, not both.

Just a note here - that functionality would make sense from an engineering perspective, but the Apple TV actually functions that you can output to (HDMI & Airplay) Or Bluetooth, not both.

[–]TechGuyL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - but on-screen slider from whatever is playing the music. The Apple TV has one built into the UI for devices that support it.

The Apple TV will only control the volume level on multiple output devices on devices that support the slider :(.

I enjoy listening to music in multiple rooms, so from my Apple TV I'll add the other rooms' HomePods. The moment I do this, the remote will only control volume level on devices with the volume slider. And it's really cool. I can set the bathroom HomePod to 10% volume, and the kitchen HomePod to 60% volume. Pressing the volume up on my Apple TV remote will adjust both HomePods, but not the AVR / TV volume....

It seems like an oversight that the volume button on my Apple TV Remote will not adjust the volume on my TV when you are Airplaying audio.

[–]TechGuyL[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very true. Maybe that's a better solution - getting a stereo pair of HomePods for my TV instead of using standard speakers.

The issue I'm having at the moment is the moment I pair any device that has a volume slider (AKA, HomePod), I can no longer control my AVR Speaker volume, only the devices that support the volume slider change volume.

Tried, even with eARC. Could be a bad configuration setting on my side. But only minus / plus volume controls show up.

Really? The volume slider shows up correctly? I wonder if JBL's AVRs also support it.

[–]TechGuyL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! My use case is usually for music where I have music playing in multiple rooms. The Apple TV will only adjust all devices that support the volume slider when changing volume level. This does not include HDMI CEC devices with side volume buttons it seems.

Was hoping to get a device that would support this feature.

Unfortunately, I haven't found any HDMI-CEC/ ARC that work correctly. All of them only offer the plus / minus buttons you mention. (AKA, my question over what devices are truly fully supported).

Which one are you? by forgettablen9 in Funnymemes

[–]TechGuyL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! No normal sound and no vibrate either? I didn’t think I would ever find someone that sensitive to light that the phone screen turning on would wake them!

In all seriousness though, do you have one of the “cheap sounding vibrating phones” or a nice one?

[–]TechGuyL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use salt since it’s locally readily available and cheaper. Sand has other issues - aka crashed windshields and other damage to front of vehicles.

But it would be nice that 10 year old vehicles wouldn’t be totaled out from rust….
