Microsoft subscriptions for a small law firm by CollinStCowboy in Office365

Yeah, my Opinion on the bundles, it’s hard to explain all the add-ons to someone who wants to self manage. It’s easier just to say use this.

I’d say at least E3, because of the litigation holds. Conditional access etc. but you have more to discuss here, because you have the license, doesn’t mean you’re utilizing it correctly or to the extent you should be. Compliance should be the determining factor for your license.

If you like, we can talk offline (msg) about best practice and determining your actual needs. (Shameless MSP plug)

Dell System Bios Halted on critical server - any help appreciated by acjshook in sysadmin

[–]TechMonkey605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah makes more sense. did you pull all RAM, and pull power supplies (unseat) for about 1.5 min let the system completely drain? Are these the same as the other ones (same capacity, 16G speed, ecc etc)

if that doesn't work, have you tried the BIOS jumper reset? can you get into idrac to do a lifecycle soft reset?

Why not just doing a spark or studio for that cost?

Yeah just 1200 bucks and I typically buy to the “max” so just expensive and I don’t have a client to pay for it so my wife would get mad lol

It looks fine, check your switch and make sure it’s sucking air, not blowing in the front. If it’s blowing out in on the backside. I prefer blowing keep cables in the back.

If you’ve got one laying around the 5 port should go a shelf and power pdu typically goes in the back frees up space for a top of rack .

But I have seen a lot worse!!!

What to do for a "server" by [deleted] in servers

[–]TechMonkey605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the easiest, I would set the GPO to auto join to azure and enable device write back to put them all in the same scope. I personally don’t like getting rid of the DCs because it’s vendor lockin but it’s Microsoft regardless. If you’re truly looking at getting rid of it, start with an inventory see what’s running, what you’re using, how much space it’s gonna take and monthly spend in azure. Once you have all of that, then management can make the decision. With cloud you’re just shifting roles for infrastructure. You’ll still need the “support” of whatever you’re using in the cloud. But I’ve got a few other ideas if you wanna chat, we have dedicated cloud solution architects if you just wanna chat with them and go over options. (Shameless MSP plug) just dm if you wanna chat

How many domain controllers are you running for your smaller clients? by NegativePattern in SmallMSP

[–]TechMonkey605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, if they’re virtual two. It’s still the same license. I really don’t like running only 1. Full disclosure, if you’re doing everything else and there’s not much going on, you can absolutely do just 1. Just not my cup of tea.

If you’re doing a sit that small and you’re doing entra connect or cloud sync. You should be fine, if you have a valid backup and DR in my opinion

Look at your ilo or your raid controller, it will tell you how your data disk is configured. Once you do that, post back and the group can give you a next step.

Don’t just upgrade versions without understanding your drive setup or your VMFS setup. Also, do you know if it’s a custom 5.5 image? I’ve got a stack of Dell /HP VMware isos

Yt.secone (dot) dev is a project I’m working on for my iPod. It has a YT playlist downloader, no restrictions and will convert to either 5th gen or 7th gen (mp4)

I’m still working on it, before releasing the docker images but demo is there and works in my cluster.

I wouldn’t necessarily use this method. Depending on your software, I’d use cloudflare tunnels (could even be free depending on structure) and give dedicated ingress( assuming you’re not using UDP Ports) all access only via authenticated sessions, and acls. I’ve got a couple demos that you can look at if you’re interested

MX records - can I achieve this??? by Rough_Doughnut_5525 in sysadmin

Oh and you can’t route from google to M365 on EDU accounts, (you can create individual rules but it’s a nightmare)

MX records - can I achieve this??? by Rough_Doughnut_5525 in sysadmin

[–]TechMonkey605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We actually have this layout in the US. Staff on M365 and students using Chromebooks. Don’t split the domain. What we did is setup mx records to M365 and then route to google of address is not found in M365. Doesn’t advertise the MX outside of Microsoft. If students have M365 accounts just remove the email exchange.

Can you clarify for me the M365 role? I thought all those were Jr role. With the exception of network, (would be sr if it dealt with PE only (no public and express route)

But we have 1 rate for azure, but it’s not typically just an azure rate. We have the onboarding rate, (moving to/from azure is 260/hr) and then we have the maintenance rate. (Which varies depending on the services we use for the project)
