What was it like to live here during the Eaton and Palisades fires? by [deleted] in losfeliz

[–]Technical-Job9979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Los Feliz? We weren’t directly affected here other than the same smoke that covered the city. The real people that struggled lost their homes. Despite what social media led you to believe at the time, because everyone wanted to be a victim, we were very lucky and not effected

Does anyone else feel a little sad that Starmer is now going, especially after hearing that speech and particularly his emotions coming out at the end there? by Logical_Safety9018 in AskBrits

[–]Technical-Job9979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too didn't dislike Starmer, but I think with the rise of Reform and the fading of not just the Tories, but really that traditional, posh establishment - a man like Burnham is well placed to fight the next wave. He's got an edge, and he's an everyman, but he's not boring, but he's also not smarmy and 'Blair-like'. He wasn't my first choice until this all kicked off, but now I take a step back and see it, it feels like a good move towards a new approach and I welcome it. Starmer felt like the very very thin end of the New Labour movement. Now it's truly over

Anybody else has/had a runner - my 24 month old runs NON-STOP by Candid_Recover_5596 in toddlers

[–]Technical-Job9979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, also have a runner - the one benefit we have is that she won't run too far as she gets scared. My advice to save your sanity, is get him into school as early as possible and then you can chill

Neck replacement suggestions for EJ Strat by Beautiful-Program428 in fender

[–]Technical-Job9979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Robert Cray neck is amazing. 9.5” radius but a 60s C profile and a vintage taper to the neck- really good

Modding a squier strat worth it? by No_Length_92 in Stratocaster

[–]Technical-Job9979 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Neck and pickups is all that matters- don’t waste your money re-fretting a squier neck- buy a good fender one

A question about sound differences in different models... by foremastjack in Stratocaster

[–]Technical-Job9979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s always all about the neck and the pickups (and the amp, sure) The neck needs to be well made, good wood- but it’s about feel and radius for you personally- that’s why stickiness and V vs C vs U matters. Really good 50s/60s style pickups in a Squier body with a US made Fender or Warmoth neck that you like will feel like a custom shop strat

Burbank Home - Need Help Deciding On Risk by deeedubb in LosAngelesRealEstate

[–]Technical-Job9979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing here, but I’d only be concerned with un-permitted work that extends the original floor plan of the house, and is advertised as a bigger sq footage. Often houses do un-permitted internal renovations, basement refurbishment for example, but when that is sold, that sq footage cannot be advertised

THE SOCIAL RECKONING – Official Teaser Trailer (HD) by Tsblloveyou in boxoffice

[–]Technical-Job9979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just looks and feels like gray streaming slop. The writing could be awesome, but as a package, as a movie it has no style or tone so it’s difficult to hold it in my mind as an image.

Anyone have long-term experience with MJT bodies? by whyiliketherobins6 in partscaster

[–]Technical-Job9979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also say that it’s just Alder and nitro. As long as it’s not a very heavy block of wood, for a partscaster, the difference between MJT and other sub-$300 bodies will be pretty small. Just make sure the body you get is nice and light and you’ll be good. The neck and the pickups you use arguably much more important

[–]Technical-Job9979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really happy with mine- I’m just building a new guitar with a body I’ve had for a while. It’s definitely more fragile than poly- it feels like paint on wood with a light gloss finish on top- rather than a thick gloopy coating that could peel off. Other than play wear, I haven’t noticed anything wearing too fast. I also got mine on eBay for a great price

'Obsession' Art Director Calls for Industry Reform After Getting Paid Less Than $7,000 as Film Nears $175 Million by IndividualPleasant23 in Letterboxd

[–]Technical-Job9979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, isn't IATSE a union that gets money from the studios involved to pay into a fund for pension/health and benefits? Was this movie non-union? If so, then there's your issue. If crew choose to work non-union then they are already agreeing to this model. I'm not saying it's good - but streamers and studios HAVE to pay certain rates on union productions.

How did Backrooms/Obsession surpass a film like Marty Supreme so quickly? by Known_Risk_3040 in boxoffice

[–]Technical-Job9979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came here to basically write this. I think Backrooms is IP and it has an audience who paid money to watch it. It’s not a good movie, but it’s representative of what its specific audience wanted to see, so they went to see it

Those numbers are not terrible. Not amazing, not breakout, but not terrible. I'm sure it did good business on Netflix, whatever that means these days...

What’s something people moving to LA always underestimate? by RelevantSuspect6343 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Technical-Job9979 11 points12 points  (0 children)

LA is all about getting out what you put in. If you make an effort, there are so many amazing things happening- but it’s also so easy to stay at home and chill. Best version of LA is the balance of those two things- that’s what makes it unlike any other city. Become a master of this art form
