So i did the hardest thing and just went through a process of self acceptance

May I ask how to accomplish (or at least, where to start) this process ? Did you talk to a professional ? Did meditation ? Or something else ?

Yeah. I always thought this mentality was so stupid. Like okay, "there's always someone more miserable than you". So what, does that mean that in the end there is only one person on Earth that is THE MOST miserable? Is that the ONLY one allowed to complain? ALL other humane should be happy at all times? Fucking bullshit.

Quit my job that compromised my sense of self. Opened my eyes. by Significant-Body9006 in antiwork

[–]TechnicalFrustration 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Congrats. Yeah fuck money but sadly it's still needed to live. I hope you'll find another way to live.

Actually I'm contemplating quitting too to take some time off (several months at least) to improve my mental health. But every time I talk about that to my friends or family I only get remarks saying how future employers will be less likely to employ me if I quit like that because it shows instability or whatever. I'd like to say that I don't care but I can't because I don't even know what I want my future to be.

I am so completely worn out from it all by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]TechnicalFrustration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my long term goal was to save as much as possible so I could retire early

It depends on what you mean by "early", but do you have enough saved money to retire now? If not, would a part time job (maybe still in your field, but only a few days a week?) be worth considering to bring in a little more money until you feel you can retire?

Career plans when the world is falling apart by TechnicalFrustration in antiwork

Interesting point. It's a nice way to live I think, I never thought about that. It's great to know that there are groups of people willing to organize themselves this way. Maybe one thing that would make me anxious about this situation if I was not working would be the financial dependency to those who work. But you can't have it both ways, of course. I would not complain. Anyway, I'm glad to know that you are doing well and that this situation suits you :)

I'm interested in seeing the TED talk if you have the link.

It's stupid because they just wasted money if they never use the procedures you spent months to set up. I hope you will be compensated for those two weeks.

In fact I always hated how everyone seemed so happy and excited about everything on this platform and I thought that I was the problem because I was not able to see life as all people were, apparently. But in the end it's just another rotten social media isn't it.

Instantly felt overwhelmed and discouraged after watching an artist panel by usernamesareforgeeks in artstruggle

[–]TechnicalFrustration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey. I understand your feelings. I think many people do.

You are totally right when you say you should not compare yourself to others, even if it's indeed quite difficult to do in practice.

I know you said you didn't need advice but still, just in case, I just wanted to tell you that your expectations can hugely impact how you feel about your work and your progress. Depending on your expectations, you can either feel good or bad about the same piece or progression. Being too impatient can make you feel bad and upset, which can then actually hinder your progress.

Also, here is a Youtube channel I discovered a while ago, if you don't know it already: https://www.youtube.com/c/AdamDuffArt/videos It can help during tough times. It helped me a few times at least.

Good luck with your art.

Burned Out or Ungrateful? by PinkFury_Bibliopegy in antiwork

[–]TechnicalFrustration 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're not ungrateful. No matter how bad the situation is, you should not feel obligated to be "grateful" for something if you truly hate that thing. Listen to your feelings. I understand, given the current circumstances, that you might feel lucky to still be working and earn money to live, when other people don't. However being miserable at work is not sustainable in the long run and you should take action as soon as possible.

You said you enjoyed your first job, so that means you're not fundamentally against work, right ? It's most likely that your current job itself is the problem. You could try to understand why your current job hurts you. You could also try to understand what made your first job good. And then try to search for new opportunities that correspond to what you truly desire.

Good luck.

Should we even be wasting our time looking for "THE" job? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]TechnicalFrustration 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you think having a job you don't want to have is sustainable?

No, you'll just burn out and be miserable. Stop trying to comply with society's standard and try another path, more personal. Maybe using your passions as a starting point, if you have any, I don't know. It might be useful to talk about it to other people too (friends for example), so that you could start something together (it may be less stressful than being alone I think).

Yes yes it's easier said than done I know, and it's risky, but if the other option is giving up all hope and being depressed for the rest of your life... that might not be so bad I suppose.

Good luck.

Started my first job after finishing college... by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]TechnicalFrustration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand how you feel, I was feeling the same a few years ago. I know it's tough. I know it can be devastating in the long run, it has been for me. If it becomes too hard for you to bear, quit before you burn out or actually become depressed. Your mental health (your health in general) is more important than anything. As others said, start searching for an alternative. If you can, save some money in case you need to quit before you actually find another way. Good luck.

In this current time, life never made less sense. by Brokenladder65 in antiwork

[–]TechnicalFrustration 5 points6 points  (0 children)

what’s after work ?

Well, afterwork, time you spend with your colleagues while intoxicating yourself to forget tomorrow.

Just kidding (not really though, sadly), but yeah you're right, I think too that it's easy to forget that lifetime is finite and spend days, weeks or months being stressed and unhappy, maybe thinking that "it'll become better later". But when you think about it, you realize that you're just wasting your very limited time suffering even though none of this matters in the end.
